i think the crappy graphics of SH1 makes it scarier for some reason.

Maybe. It leaves a lot to the imagination, and thats what scares you the most in the silent hill series.
Walken
Mar 9 2005, 05:04 PM
Silent Hill 5.
Be afraid, be very afraid...
QUOTE
SH5 will be released in 2006
QUOTE
The protagonist will be a mental patient in an institution, and the story will follow his past flashbacks
QUOTE
SH5 will most likely be on next-gen consoles
QUOTE
"We're not sure which hardware we will put [it out on], but [it will be] on the best one, be it PS3, be it Xbox 2... It won't be on the current consoles," he confirmed.
Can you wait?
PS: Very little is known about this one, but Kanomi have confirmed that Silent Hill Shadows was a hoax made up by fan sites. It is NOT official, nor does it exsist.

Where'd you get that information?

Just for you Burnside, I fished through my history and got the site.

I seem to remember a silent hill for super nintendo, were they related?
BurnSide
Mar 9 2005, 06:15 PM
There was no Silent Hill on any Nintendo Console. You must be thinking of a different game.
SH1, PS1.
SH2, 3, 4, PS2.
Thanks for the link Walken, i have seen that site before.
Hrrm, so it appears that 5 will definately be the last too, i wonder if the town will be destroyed or something.
Walken
Mar 9 2005, 07:34 PM
I do remember in the very 1st one, Doctor Kaufmann implys that a milliatary rescue squad is on it's way.
Maybe thats what happens.
Look foward to it.

Mar 9 2005, 07:35 PM
Dispite the fact that SH3 takes place 17 years after the first game?
Wow, they sure took their time getting there!!
Shakezulah
Mar 9 2005, 09:55 PM
^^^

SH5 wont be the last game. the site said that "it will definatley not be the last game in the series." besides. Silent Hill cant be destroyed. its impossible.
BurnSide
Mar 9 2005, 09:59 PM
That's what it says on the site, but these are all rumours, as far as i know.
Shakezulah
Mar 9 2005, 10:00 PM
actualy the site said that it will definatley not be the last game in the series. i guess i edited my above post too late.

Mar 9 2005, 10:05 PM
Ahh, i read:
'In 2006, gamers across the globe will return to Silent Hill for the final time on the PS2 in Silent Hill 5: Shadows of the Past. In the first time for a SH game, players will play through the game in flashbacks, retelling the main character's harrowing trip through through a town worse than hell.'
'In 2006 gamers will return to Silent Hill for the final time' not final time on PS2.
Shakezulah
Mar 9 2005, 10:07 PM
read farther.
"Like the synopsis says, this will be the last SH on the PS2. It definetely won't be the last of the series though, Konami wants another Silent Hill on the PS3 as soon as possible."
BurnSide
Mar 9 2005, 10:07 PM
I saw.

Sorry.
I'm glad it's going back to the roots, but this whole 'flashbacks' thing bugs me.

Yeah I dont think they can do it without makeing it feel like agame like 4.
Walken
Mar 10 2005, 04:33 PM
"They sure are takeing their time getting there."
Maybe Dick Cheeny is still in charge.
Shadows will not be the name of the game. Kanomi said that it was just a rumor.
Walken
Mar 15 2005, 10:51 PM
So far I've done that.
Silent Hill's story line is kind of all over the place, so the order doesn't really matter. I think you appreciate it more if you do play in order though.
BurnSide
Mar 15 2005, 10:52 PM
SIlent Hill 3 is a direct sequel to SH1. You need to play those in order. 2 and 4 have nothing to do with any of the other games or each other, so they don't matter.
Walken
Mar 15 2005, 10:57 PM
Yeah, but the guy from 4 is of a relation to James sunderland, so it helps if you play that first. Then again, there wouldn;t be too much of a difference if you played it after anyway.
BurnSide
Mar 15 2005, 10:59 PM
The landlords name is Sunderland. That's it, that's all we know. No mention of James is ever made, we don't even know if he was a relation, or how he was related of they were related. SO that hardly counts.

Anyway, this isn't the SH thread.
Walken
Mar 15 2005, 11:02 PM
Okay then, back on topic:
Just to add though, it IS mentioned that Sunderlands son went to Silent Hill. It's mentioned as a thought when you examine paintings, ect, in the apartment.
BurnSide
Mar 15 2005, 11:03 PM
Really? I must have never found that. I remember the painting room though. One of them says that Sunderlands son once took a trip to Silent Hill, and that's it?
Let's move this over to the SH topic. I'll move the posts.

Mar 15 2005, 11:06 PM
As I was saying, yes. The picture is in the liveing room.
It' at the back, by the table. On the wall next to the windows.

I thought it was overated. Too much action, not enougth tension. Same with SH3.
Hopefully the next will go back to it's very origonal roots.
BurnSide
Mar 16 2005, 06:44 PM
I liked SH3, but not for the same reasons i liked 1 or 2. SH3 and 4 were very, well, videogamie, with levels and stuff instead of freeroaming. 1 and 2 just gave you alot to explore and i loved that, but 3 was at least still noticably Silent Hill.
SH4 could have been called something completely different and no one would have known it was a Silent Hill game except for the references to the town.
Walken
Mar 16 2005, 06:45 PM
Agreed.
The most bizzare part of SH4, I think, was the phone number of the bar.
That freaked me out.
First I was trying random numbers, than I saw that. Tried it...woah.
BurnSide
Mar 16 2005, 07:04 PM

silent hill has emerged as a game unique in its genre. ppl compared it to resident evil but no other game has managed to achieved the level of terror and horror that the silent hill series managed to create and sustain. with excellent graphics, deep storylines and beautiful settings the games have created legions of fans who discuss numerous theories as to what actually happens in the games. now what i want from you is to vote for the best game in the series and comment on such choice.
mine is silent hill 2.

I rented MGS3, and it had a demo of SH4, the first part of the game up to when Cynthia died. I popped it in, and being a little under the influence of booze and green, found it highly enjoyable watching those videos and stuff. A real mind job.
I'm not craving to play it. Maybe it wasn't so bad...

Playing Silent Hill on a trip would be VERY scary. Walken thinks he may one day try this.
BurnSide

Wasn't really scary, since it was SH4, but it did put me a little uneasy while i was playing i have to say.

Apr 3 2005, 08:54 PM
Yup.
Let us hope SH5 brings us back to our roots. And if it does, let SH6 be the last; and let it be the best. Let it save the legacey of SH.

Apr 3 2005, 10:31 PM
if it wants to keep up in the competition with RE, the im sure there will be more than 6 SH games. im suprised that there havent been any side SH games like with RE. i dont know how well that would work tho.
BurnSide
Apr 4 2005, 01:50 AM
I admire the SH series a little more than the RE series on those grounds. Silent Hill has strayed a little, but it has not gone into silly side-games and co-creators and become something you roll your eyes at, like all the side-RE games.
Shakezulah
Apr 4 2005, 01:51 AM
well not all the side games were silly. CV wa excellent, but fot the others like Dead Aim, Survivor, etc. I see what you mean.
BurnSide
Apr 4 2005, 02:06 AM
I don't really consider Code Veronia a side game. If it involves the main characters, it's okay for me.
Side games:
Survivor
Survivor 2 (If it counts as a RE game at all)
Dead Aim
Outbreak
Outbreak 2
Gaiden

Apr 4 2005, 02:53 AM
Was RE: Gaiden the one Capcom did for the Game Boy? I remember the port Capcom was going to make on the first one for the GB, but got cancelled
Shakezulah
Apr 4 2005, 02:56 AM
yeah it was. and i do remember the original RE port for the GBA got cancelled too. i was dissapointed by that.
BurnSide
Apr 4 2005, 02:50 PM
There was one RE side game that actually was not made by Capcom at all. Was that not RE Gaiden?
Capcom was porting RE1, but i don't think they made Gaiden.
Shakezulah
Apr 5 2005, 12:59 AM
i dont think Capcom would give the rights of RE to anyone else.
anyways, lets get back on topic. this is the SH thread.
