And on that note, SH4 had to little. The guns were pretty much useless, so all you had was melee's, and they sucked too. SH2 and SH1 had a perfect range between melees and guns.

Here here.
Also, the controlls were fiddly and it was slow to start.
BurnSide
May 4 2005, 07:24 PM
I hated SH4's controls. The 2D silliness may work for FF or the like, but it doesn't fit in a survival horror game. I hope the next one goes back to normal 3D movement.
ChrisC098
May 4 2005, 10:35 PM
Yeah in SH4 all you need is the axe and your set for the rest of the game.
BurnSide
May 4 2005, 10:38 PM
And that's pretty much all i used the whole game.
ChrisC098
May 4 2005, 10:44 PM
Yeah me too. It's pretty much the second powerful weapon in the game.
BurnSide
May 4 2005, 10:52 PM
I did use the revolver with a couple silver bullets on some of the harder bosses though, like that guy you had to kill in the Water Prison.
I HATED how limited the inventory was.
ChrisC098
May 4 2005, 10:54 PM
Yeah you could hold a gun a clip a melee weapon and you still didnt have enough room for all theitems you needed.
BurnSide
May 4 2005, 11:38 PM
I hope the next installment will go back to having an infinite inventory system. It's just more fun, regardless of realism.
ChrisC098
May 4 2005, 11:45 PM
Yeah really I want unlimited space so i can bring more than 5 bullets.
seeking
May 5 2005, 02:23 AM
i too have been using the axe, and that inventory sucks big time, i find my self in a rut over and over again, one time ill bring 2 clips and end up with not enough inventory, or one time i wont bring any clips and not need any of my inventory....took me a minute to realize i could give eileen her bag as a weapon too....i found out after i found the riding crop
jpalz
May 5 2005, 03:17 AM
Mmmm.... yeah, unlimited inventory, but in real time. I hate to pause the game to equip a better weapon.

And if you don't want to use a health bar, how about the Dual Shock? Remember, in 3, when you were weak the controller started to shake. That was sweet!

Oh! and bring the axe back! It ruled!!

I hated the inventory but loved the part where you couldn't get back through the forest with the key. That was awesome. I was stuck for like a half hour.

May 5 2005, 12:04 PM
Really? Why did u hate the inventory: because you had to go back to your room?
BurnSide
May 5 2005, 02:16 PM
I hated the inventory too. Real-time inventories suck, especially ones as limited as that.
The SH3 inventory was brilliant. I really liked that you could equip a health drink so you didn't need to go to the menu to use one.

I saw the tree by blind luck, and then realised that i was going over and over again and not going anywhere. The key said something like you'd walk forever with it, so it was pretty obvious you couldn't return with it.
Very basic SH/RE puzzle.

How could you do that? I dunno
BurnSide
May 6 2005, 12:27 AM
Easily.
There's three levels to the inventory right? The top level, for items, clothes etc. The second level, for guns etc. And the third level, for ammo, health items, etc.
You can equip any of the items on the third level the same way you equip guns. Except it gets equiped to the R3 button.
So, say you equip beef jerky to that button. By pushing RE3, Heather will use the ebef jerky.
Simple.

I'll tell ta the whole story: I'm studying engineering. It's my first year, and one of the assignatures (along with Calculus and Geometry) is Introduction to Computer Programming. We do programs in JAVA and stuff. And one of the homeworks is making Monopoly, with a package that contains the graphics and stuff. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell I'm gonna do that, and how the hell I'm gonna study (because the homework is for Monday, and on Tuesday we've got a test on the same assignature. Totally sadistic)
And yeah, I wanna make games o my own

Dude!
I'm a huge Silent Hill fan!
I own all the titles, all 4 titles are the best horror series I ever played. I can't wait to see the movie. Sean Bean is the male lead in the film. Hopefully they will get the film done for an early 2006 release or earlier.
My favorite out of the series so far is Silent Hill the original game and the newest one Silent Hill 4 The Room. I'm stuck on the prison level where you have to align the bloody beds with that crank. With the prison being rounded it's hard to tell if you have them aligned.
Other wise so far the game is awesome, I can't wait to finish it.
I read that Konami is putting all the kudos into the movie so it should be a hit if the script is like the game. I saw pics of the set and I was quite impressed on how real the city looked compared to the game.
We'll we see a 5th Silent Hill game when the movie comes out?
More than likely.

In general the fans here say that 4 is crap, but I liked it

Really? Then I guess I won't have much problems with C++, because I wanna make games with that language. In fact, there are two books waiting for me to program with them, but I can't right now

c++ is really pretty easy once you get the basics down, dont be intimidated by it, and Damien, the way i got by the prison section you are on is by using my map a lot and remembering where i lined the rooms up that way, hope that helps you (i still in the midst of beating 4, i like it so far as well)
