The controls and stupid enemies and fighting system bug me the most.
Oh and the partner character.. and having to repeat the entire game at halfway.

The story is good, graphics are acceptable, and all that.
Shakezulah
i didnt really mind the controls, since ive used them in many games before. but it did change the feel of exploration for the game. the enemies were stupid, especially the ghosts. the fighting system was ok, but kinda lame. the melee weapons were good, but the lack of the normal SH guns made me angry. the graphics were excellent, probably some of the best on the PS2. the story, i thought, was also very good, played out well, but actually doing it in a repetitive way was bad.
seeking
i havent played enough of the 2nd half of the game yet to really say, but i dont really feel its playing the same game over agin, i feel its the same areas, but completly different
Shakezulah
its not really different at all. same places to go, a few more enemies. a few small extra puzzles thrown in and thats pretty much it. they could at least have you go to a completely different part of the level so its not repetitive. at least the levels are big.

ohmy.gif ohmy.gif By golly!!

You guys are not going to believe this.. but my apartment is almost identical, to The Room!

Granted, it's a pretty generic apartment.. but it's damned creepy..

Leave the living room and kitche exactly where they are and how they look, as well as the front door, and then move the laundry room, hallway, bedroom and bathroom to the otherside of the living room, and you have my apartment, identically. Even the layout of the bedroom, with the closet and everything!!

ohmy.gif!!
Shakezulah
haha thats pretty strange! but why r u just realizing this now?
BurnSide
Because i'm just playing through the game for the first time at this apartment!

Ahh! I'm REALLY paranoid about that stain on the wall know. I think it's staring at me..
Shakezulah
ah i see. what if whatever happened to the Room in the game happened to your apartment? that would be awsome. imagine your apartment being infested with ghosts.

That would NOT be awesome. I'd be on UM, FREAKING OUT.
Although, this makes a good point, Henry didn't have a computer. Who is a writer, but doesn't have a computer??

25$ canadian, i thought it had gotten down enough to finally be worth it. That's what, 10quid in Walkens world.

In my world evreything sounds more expensive crying.gif

But actually it's the same! So evreything works out for the best! innocent.gif
jpalz
In my world everything sounds more expensive.

And indeed, it IS more expensive tongue.gif (in case you are asking, about 80 US dollars a brand-new PS2 game)
lost dreamer
I spent like, $45 on it o.o; It was totally worth it though, cuz I love the Silent Hill series grin2.gif
BurnSide
Just completed water world. I got the stun gun, nice. It's really good against the double heads.
Walken
Those double heads are ugly and are just in the game for the sake of monstors angry.gif
BurnSide
No they're not. They're first found in the dead body pit where they disposed of the dead children who had starved and rotted away. They're the souls of dead children.

And they're pretty stupid, can't deny that.

I'm really happy with the taser guys. Kills pretty much everything in one hit, and it's easy to use! Yippe!
I just completed Building world.

I've just realised that all the locations, are the only locations Walter has ever been.

The forest, with the orphanage. The water prison. The subway, the city, and the apartment building.

Cool.

Doi!

I really should play this game.
BurnSide
You know, i'm really enjoying it ALOT more this time around, mainly because i know the story better. As such, it's almost exciting when i find more notes that give me more to the story.

The ghosts are still bloody annoying, and i'm not that fond of the fighting, it just feels silly. Especially when i'm trying to attack a stationary enemy infront of me and it keeps auto-locking to an enemy behind me. Bah!
Walken
Yeah, I just downloaded all of the memos. The story is usually(always) a lot better than the game play.
Shakezulah
i probably didnt enjoy the game as much when i first played it cuz i really didnt pay much attention to the story, i just wanted to ge through the game. but you cant do that with the SH games cuz you are guaranteed to miss out on 90% of the fun. i really should play 4 again.
seeking
those doubleheads are freaky! they are to big though, i think if they were smaller they would be better
BurnSide
It makes SO much more sense, which makes the game better.

Like the dream at the very beginning, we think we're playing the main character at first. But he's walking around his apartment, looking at all of Henrys stuff, and i realised, it's actually Joseph we're playing as!

For example, if you look at the TV, he says he doesn't have a TV he had a stereyo there. And there's a picture of Henry on the wall and the guy is saying 'who is this guy?' and the shoes. If you check the shoes, he says 'these aren't my shoes, they're not even my size'.

By golly i missed alot the first time though. laugh.gif
Yona
So.. you thnk it's cool now Bs?
BurnSide
I think the story is excellent. But i still have my beefs. The enemies are really stupid. It's rushed, the sound effects could have been better if they came out of my bum, the fighting is bad, and it's repetitive.
But, worth 25 canadian. original.gif
Yona
Out of your.. bum... Wow, now that would be in the line of silent hill. Running through a creepy Apartment/hospital/burger king/white house, you hear faint noises coming from a mans bum.. apalled, you try to run, but it keeps following you, back to your special place...
BurnSide
rolleyes.gif It was a statement saying that methane releasals sound better than the crappy effects in SH4.
Yona
lol yeah I know, that would be pretty cool though.
seeking
well, you know burnside, speaking of flatulance, the patient monsters do belch when you hit them!
Yona
ewww.....creepy....not scary... just creepy
BurnSide
I know.
I know. *sigh*

As stated, the sounds in the game, really suck. laugh.gif
Fox Lupine
I'm ashamed to say since i started sh4 i havn't even looked at the box agian
I gt stop doing this tongue.gif

I'll carry on later
BurnSide
Well, it's not for everyone, and if you don't have an interest, no biggie. original.gif

In the part I highlighted I've got another theory: it also may be the souls of the two children Walter killed before killing himself. Remember in SH2, the note in the apartments? The freaky radio show in the hospital? Well, I think the double heads may be them, for they were brothers.
Oh!, the sound FX aren't that bad, and I really recommend you to download the OST. You can find it here!
BurnSide
The sound track is excellent.
The sound effects are utterly awful.

Right from the start. The very first second you can move in the game, a terrible generic cry echoes out. I think it's the same scream used in earthworm jim when he gets attacked by the dog. rolleyes.gif And the sounds the dogs make, again poor sound rips! The game is full of them.

The voice acting is marvelous though.

I like your theory jpalz, that is a good one!
seeking
whats the ost?
BurnSide
Offical Soundtrack.
seeking
aw man that scream was hor-i-ble! i thought it was from twisted metal 2, when you hit the pedestrians in paris

edit: i should have known (official soundtrack)
BurnSide
Probably was, i've heard it a thousand times.
BurnSide
I wanted to post this, seems Jpalz may be right about the Double Heads!

QUOTE
- BILLY LOCANE & MIRIAM LOCANE - VICTIM 7 & 8
  (A.K.A. DOUBLE HEAD MONSTERS)
No information is known about these two. Many people have emailed me
that they were really mentioned in Silent Hill 2 in a newspaper. I had
known that, but didn't mention here. Because what we learned was only
that Billy and Miriam were two local pupils in Silent Hill who got
murdered with their hearts taken away. Walter Sullivan was said to have
killed them with unknown reason, while he didn't look like the type of
killer.

Unlike other victims who became evil ghosts in Walter's twisted
world,
Billy and Miriam are manifested into the Double-headed - a regular
monster during the trip. Why is this ? In fact I don't have an exact
answer for this question. But we can theorize that they are too young
to
go to Hell that they couldn't become ghosts. So Walter manifested them
into the haunting monsters instead. This has explained the reason for
their weird forms : two similar heads are stuck to each other, as Billy
and Miriam are brother and sister. And they always appear along with
children's cry.
jpalz
I remember that the first time I played The Room, alone, in the dark, I was completely freaked out with the beggining with the ghost coming out of the wall grin2.gif

Shakezulah
very interesting info. and yeah that video freaked me out too. i too, was playing alone, in the dark and as soon as that video started i wanted to turn the lights back on.

does anyone know how to download each soundtrack at once from that site jpalz posted? i can only see how to do each individual track.
jpalz
As far as I know, you can only download one at a time. If you don't know what songs you MUST download, just ask yes.gif
Shakezulah
no thanks bud. im gonna download them all and burn each soundtrack to some cds. they play some of the tracks on the site....man they are creepy just to listen to!
seeking
where did you get that from burnside?
BurnSide
In a plot analysis txt i can't now get back to, i'll post it later when my computer isn't being a fool.

It's got alot of good information, also confirming my suspicions that the first part of the game, the Dream, you're actually playing as Joseph, and getting killed by the spirit, becoming the 15th victim.
Shakezulah
if you could please refresh my memory...who exactly is Joseph?
BurnSide
The guy who lived in the apartment before Henry. The one who wrote all the notes you find around the Room, and wrote the article about Hope House that can be found in SH3 as well as SH4.
