BurnSide
Sorry about the delay, i'll get to it soon. thumbsup.gif
ChrisC098
Burnside do you mind if i ask what your job is? If that's not too personal.
BurnSide
Tech support, internet and cable tv.
ChrisC098
I thought it would be something like that seeing as how you have so much computer time.
BurnSide
hahaha exactly.
sadly though as of late it's been very busy because the other center was closed due to the hurricane in florida so i've been unable to continue the story.
at the best part to!
ChrisC098
OH! I thought you were takeing alot of time to do it really well. Oh well I can wait.
jpalz
SH4 IS OUT!!!! YAY!!!!!!
star_searcher
yup it is!!! ^^ i'm buying it on friday!!!! i can't wait!!!! ^^
BurnSide
I'm renting first.
I've heard far to many bad reviews, mostly about the controls and playability.

New chapter comming soon!
Shakezulah
damn! it got bad reveiws? aw that sucks. im gonna rent it too. i almost always rent a game before i buy it except for a few exceptions like Chaos Legion and The Suffering, both very good games. i wasnt even paying attention to the date. i had no idea it came out yesterday. i cant believe i forgot! im sure it will be good anyways.
BurnSide
I hope so.
The story everyone i've spoke to gave 10/10.

The playability scores nothing more than a 4 or 5.
Shakezulah
3 didnt get that good of ratings, and even tho it wasnt the greatest game it was still pretty good, so im sure 4 wll be a lot better. i think that it got its rating taken becauseof the raio and flashlight not being in it, the new controls, the new style inventory, and the health bars and what not being on the screen. this game went quite a bit away from the normal SH things.
BurnSide
I'm worried about the controls. Why couldn't they just keep the same controls? It was fine it didn't need any revamping.
ChrisC098
My friend said that it wasent going to be a silent hill game at all. It was going to be a whole other game and then after it was in production a few months it was turned into a silent hill game.
Shakezulah
Konami did to SH4 what Capsom is doing to RE4. making it an entire new experience. they think that people want to see something new in the genre, maybe some people do, but i think a lot have gotten used to what they are like already and theyre not liking the new details of it as much.
BurnSide
I'd have prefered some more good old Silent Hill 2 style gameplay.
Then again, i'm a sucker for classics.

blink.gif what'd they do with the controls? 0o
BurnSide
Well it was 3D controls, and it has been changed to 2D controls i believe. I'm guessing that means instead of pushing up to go forward, and back to walk backwards etc up would be walk north, south would be walk south, left would be walk west and right would be walk east.

Bah,
star_searcher
i agree with you though, silent hill 2 was the best... it has the best controls too, that's what i'm used to cuz i played 2 so much.

Here is a review from a close friend of mine, a huge fan of the first three:

"I'm PRAYING it redeems itself before the end. I hate the HUD (it's even worse than I had thought it would be... items, power bar, AND life meter *GAG*), I hate Henry, I hate Henry's animation... he walks like an old man with a full diaper... I've already gotten a bunch of stupid Silent Hill references/ "inside jokes" at the very start and they just piss me off... "OMG See? Henry's in room 302, get it? He can't get out of ROOM 302? See? Walter says he shouldn't leave? *wink! wink!*"

I hate the controls, I hate the fighting system, I don't really care for the graphics, first person mode is horrible... I feel like I'm playing Clock Tower 3 and Resident Evil: Survivor combined. I've lost all hope, but I'll keep playing. I had ASSUMED (incorrectly) that I'd still have the normal "3D" control scheme, but they've even taken that. I know you're probably thinking that I had already made up my mind to hate the game before I had played, but that's not true... I was disappointed in the idea of tag-alongs, the absence of the flashlight and radio, the power meter, and the limited inventory, but I figured I could get over most of those... but this is much worse. If the STORY can sort of salvage something, then it'll be semi-okay, but the gameplay's pretty horrible in every way so far. I really hope that by the end of the game, I'll say, "well, it was kind of okay," but ARGH, I'm pretty irritated right now"

And he knows how much i dispise Clock Tower and RE: Survivor.
Shakezulah
yeah SH2 had the best controls. 1 wouldnt stop when you let go of the moving buttons so you went like 2 feet farther. some of the inventory buttons had delayed reactions, and it was hard to turn. in 3, i think you run kinda slow. 4 has like the same controls as Parasite Eve, which i found very confusing when i first played it.. those controls are hard to get used to.
Shakezulah
wow....the game seems pretty bad, to the sound of it. i need to see PSM's final review.
star_searcher
in sh2, james cannot run up those stairs though, that's the only problem i had... i thought eddie was funny! ^^;; i have like, 4 of the endings for 2. and 2 for 3. and 1 for 1. lol.
jpalz
Nah, the game is good. As a matter of fact, I prefer the controls on 4, they are more responsive than previous SH. I don't have to play with the D-Pad to feel it good.

I liked it. And the story is interesting.
ChrisC098
You better be right or else.
jpalz
It depends on your taste.

Yeah, the game is far from perfect, but they tried to innovate instead of just repeating the same formula. I aprecciate that.
ChrisC098
How is the sword system?
BurnSide
Yeah that's the main thing i'm dreading. All that stuff with fighting ghosts with swords and pinning them down. Whuuut??
jpalz
Naaah, the thing is that in the second half ghost are always chasing you, and it can get really hard at times when you've got like three or four of them at a time. So, there are very few swords in the game (5 in total) and you have to knock the ghosts down, by bullets, melee weapons, even silver bullet (I only found one though), and when the ghost is pinned down, you choose the sword from your inventory and pin the ghost down and voila!, the ghost won't bother you anymore.

I actually enjoyed the fights in SH4, instead of just running like SH3 (specially the Slurpers. I ****** hate them)
BurnSide
Yeah they were a bitch eh.

So how many ghosts were there in total, if you only have 5 swords? Does that mean you can only pin down 5 ghosts?
jpalz
If you find all the swords, yeah: but there are more than 5 ghosts. The good thing about this game is that it is more strategic about the fights. You have to think well what you're going to bring, and I enjoyed that
BurnSide
Well i don't really see the point in pinning the ghosts down if more are gonan come that you can't pin down.
So the others ones you just run away from when you're out of swords?
Shakezulah
what kinda bosses were there in it and how many were there? i love it when there a lot of them
jpalz
We can say that, but there are times where you have to fight. The second half of the game is better.

And the game starts slow, but once it picks up pace, it doesn't stop.
jpalz
In the boss section you'll be disappointed heretic: only one boss at the end of the game.

But that guy also appears in the second half and you have to fight him. It's more like a mini-boss fight, but there are lots of them. And the ghost might count as mini-bosses
Shakezulah
aw man! that sucks ass! but theres lots of mini-boss fights? so theres no huge monster to fight thats really hard and requires a great amount of time, skill, and hits(besides the last boss)?
jpalz
Yup, but Silent Hill has never been a game of great bosses (except maybe for Pyramid Head).

And there are more fights in the second half
Shakezulah
Pyramid Headf was lame. and so were all of the monsters in SH2. one had osme ok bosses and the final and 1st bosses of 3 werent to bad either
jpalz
The giant worm of SH3? I didn't play a SH in more than two years before picking it up and I beat it without blinking!!! It was way too lame
BurnSide
I liked SH1 for bosses.
Lizard, Grub, Moth, Cybil, Samael
Then there was SH2, which was crap for bosses.
PH, Hanging things, Door Monster which later becomes an enemy, Maria/Mary.
SH3 was okay with the split worm, Missionary, Memory of Alessa, God
SH4 sounds like it sucks in that department too.
ChrisC098
Can I touch you?
BurnSide
The split worm was fun, but agreed, WAY WAY to easy.
Shakezulah
the lizard in SH1 was awsome, but it was way too easy, only one hit to kill him! but it had to be perfectly angled
ChrisC098
It;s better than the SH1 finnally boss. I hate how if your out of ammo i just blows up. ARR! po.gif
BurnSide
Yeah.I shoot ALL of my ammo away, go into the boss fight, it dies right away hahahaha.
Shakezulah
i had like 1000 shotgun shells for 1's final boss
jpalz
The strenght of Silent Hill is the atmosphere, and SH4 is pure Silent Hill, even with all the changes
Shakezulah
how much of the game takes place in the actual town?
