Fluffybunny
Good luck Druidus...

Just stay calm...lots of deep breaths, and take your time. You will be just fine.

Very true. Have fun.

Here in Ontario to get your learner's permit all you need to do is pass the written test. What part of Canada are you in?
BurnSide
Well, in ontario here and i have my G1 license.
You have to pass the written test to get your G1, which means you can drive WITH someone who has a G.
You have to pass the G1 exit exam, which includes a driving test, to get your G2 which allows you to drive alone.

Very well said, Burnside. Druidus said that he was getting his learner's permit, and everyone that I know was always referring to their G1 when they mentioned a learner's permit.
BurnSide
I had no idea. To be honest, i had absouletly no clue what a learners permit was, i'd never heard it called that.

So, i went out on a whim and figured it was a advanced level driving licence.
Thanks for correcting me. original.gif

Druidus, dude, that exam is SO easy, i got 96% and read through the manual once. Good luck bud.
babyforrest
I don't know. You also don't need an appointment to write the test, so maybe he was talking about the G2, or maybe he is in a different part of Canada. Did you notice that a conversation about this didn't start until it was time for him to take the test? Now he isn't here to answer our questions. Funny. tongue.gif
BurnSide
hahah well, whatever the test is, we wish him good luck.
babyforrest
Yes, good luck Druidus. I am sending good vibes your way as I type this.

if you're in bc and take the touchscreen test (as ya should), you will get some answers wrong because the damn machine lies and makes things up.

as for your second test, it's easy as pie. then you got yerself the class 5 thumbsup.gif

Good going, just try and stay off the sidewalk thumbsup.gif

I passed with a 93% on the sign recognition and an 80 on the written. I only read the manual once too. It was insanely easy, and the ones I got wrong were because they were worded in a very confusing manner (for the inuktituk readers). A learner's (or beginner's) permit is to be allowed to drive with someone who has had their class 5 (at least) licence for at least 2 years. I think it's 5 years elsewhere in Canada. I am in Nunavut.
BurnSide
Class 5 eh. We only have 3 classes here... i think.

But congratulations!!
Druidus
We have classes 7 (learning to drive a truck, car or motorcycle), 6 (car or truck), 5 (motorcycle, car or truck) and then so on until you could drive every type of automobile on the planet.
BurnSide
Cool!
We have things like M1, M2, M for motorcycle, M being the highest. G1, G2, G for car, etc etc for buses and rigs and whathaveya.

I have my class C license ( drive a normal car alone ) ... Both the driving and written parts of the test are extremely easy in america . The driving test consists of you driving around the block of the DMV a couple times for 15 minutes tops and you almost always pass . The written test has things that are just mostly common sense . tongue.gif

good job on passing for a learners permit . You now get to deal with ... People who dont know how to drive !!! grin2.gif

I ussually just pretend they cant see me , because a lot of them can't . >_>

alrighty. i'm going to explain the bc drivers license system as well as i know it (which isn't well) and how to tell without looking at the license plate where a driver comes from by how badly they're driving.

british columbia has, seemingly, 8 billion different classes of drivers. well, maybe not 8 billion, but at least 8. maybe even 10. i dunno. anyway, you take the written test and then you have your L license. L for learner, in case anybody out there is tired, slow, or is suffering from an excessive heatwave like i am. you must display an L on your vehicle and they are often stolen by teenage punks trying to be cool.

after a small driving test and a certain amount of time, you upgrade to the N license, N for novice, which is also know as the class 7 license. you take another test after about a year and then you get your full license, or class 5. what happened to 6, i don't know.

class 1 = anything with wheels
class 2 = buses or semi's one or the other
class 3 = vans, i think, though that doesn't make any sense
class 4 = cabs...and vans?
and class 6 and 8 involve motorcycles.

now for the crappy westerner driver tutorial.
it's a well known fact that people from alberta are terrible drivers. having lived in saskatchewan, alberta, and bc, i have figured out that everybody but me on the road is a moron. there are subtle differences as to what makes people suck depending on their locale.

saskatchewan: speed limits mean nothing to them. they either have the pedal to the metal or they have a loving relationship with the brake pedal and a speed of 5 km/h.
alberta: shotgun starts and a complete and utter contempt for turn signals.
british columbia: contempt for turn signals, though not as bad as alberta, and an utter blank slate in their mind where "red means stop" and "stop means stop" normally would be.

Can you believe I still haven't gone for my license yet and I'm 32 blink.gif

I failed the learner permit test the first time I took it, I hadn't studied the material since August and then I took it in January. I finally got it in June last year. Now I'm almost seventeen and still with no regular license.
babyforrest
I am so happy for you, Druidus! See, the good vibes work. thumbsup.gif

I have my full G here in Ontario. I failed the test once, but got it the second time.
