Who thinks we have a soul? Or is it just what we have adapted?

Well I believe that we have a soul. It is a thing of two parts, one transient, the other eternal(from a certain point of view).

look, Blobby and faith are our m8s, just because we are interested in the same things as them does not mean we are th same people! I don't want to cause an argument and follow by M8 blobbys footsteps, and I have kept to the subject on souls so far, and there is nothig wrong with what I have done! I'm sorry if you got confused, but we are not the same people, well I'm not and I don't think faithsm8 would sink that low either!!!!!!

How do you define a soul? You can't see it with the body. How can something exist without taking shape (form by five senses). I have been thinking about this for some time. It then came to me that the question may be quite similar to 'what is consiciousness'. How do a physical organism (say the brain) produce consiciousness, as sense of identity and everything abstract? To go down one level, the question would be how can minerals, molecules conglomerate and turn into living cells but not just bigger lumps of molecules and minerals? It seems logical enough that the sum is more than parts put together in a qualitative way.

I believe human consciousness is the product of the funcitoning of the brain with experinces combined. As the consciousness is different in nature to the physical brain (its like 1+1=T, different product by nature of existence), may be its the nature of consciousness to be indestructible once its produced. You see there have been many accounts of interaction with ghost so a recording of somesort doesnt seem correct.

I'm not sure if souls exist as much as I would like them to be. As a faint hope from death becoming nothingness. But most of the time conciousness is just the brain. All brain brain brain.

Whilst it would be a nice thing to believe, i probably doubt that any part of us remains after we die. As for having a soul, think about this, how can you see something if you have no eyes? hear something without any ears? smell something without a nose? etc. If we had no senses, and no body, no brain how do we know we exist? It is senses in my opinion which together form consciousness. I ask you, is a tree conscious? Does it have any senses?

About out of body experiences etc. i believe it may be possible to project outside ones body, but it is purely a biological reflex if you like. It happens when we go to sleep, and it may happen in times of high stress such as near death. But, i think the 'soul' cannot live without the body, once the 'silver cord' is severed so ends the life of both the body and mind. We are a result of our genes, and our experiences, without a body we are nothing.

If you think we don't have a soul then there's no heaven or hell.We have to have a soul I don't wanna be a preacher so I'm not going to even try to explain.

Whatever you call it, a soul, spirit, energy, etc. When you die something happens.
Oh yeah and everybody gets the chance/choice to be everything. Until you've had the experience you never truely understand it.

I think we have a soul, and if not then how are we living without one? I think our bodies are simply like a shell, protecting our soul from anything that may harm it!

just because a tree is unable to show that it is hurt...it does not mean that it it has no spirt or soul. senses are our way of interperating the world...maybe plants have a different way

I believe everybody certainly does have a soul. A soul is who we are, we are souls with bodies, not bodies with souls. A soul is the spark within us, a soul animates our body... sorry if i ramble but this is a subject i feel very strongly about. I know everyone has their own opinion and i respect the opinions of others, but this is my truth, it has been proven to me time and again through spiritualism. we all have an energy and energy can't be destroyed, just converted into another form.
