I am just back from Europe, and I have noticed lot's of things different there
from North America ,but one thing I have found very cool. thumbsup.gif Well -in almost all supermarkets cashiers sit instead of standing. You won't see that happened in USA or Canada.I know why?it is called exploitation. disgust.gif
tendo
plz elaborate...
Montclair
What I mean is that when you go pay for stuff cashier does not have to stand all the time ,in Europe they can sit and work instead .You know what I mean right.

I'm shocked, Montclair. ohmy.gif

I'd assumed cashiers sit in the US and Canada, as well. We've adopted a lot of US retail trends over here, and I imagined things were the same on both sides of the pond.

Shameful. Better rights for North American supermarket cashiers!

Is not the UK, 52 state allready?
In USA we have pure capitalism in other words "survival of the fittest".
Individuals does not count.

I'm rather insulted by that remark...

Been over that side of the pond a few times and strangly enough wether the cashiers sit or stand wasn't high on my list of notable diffrences.

The most obvious diffrences that struck me....

1)Except a few parts of New York, everywhere else over there was designed so you had to be TOTALY dependant on the car. Public transport seemed to only be used by an underclass of poor folks and trying to actualy walk anywhere was just about impossible.

2)I was hyper aware of the cops all being armed! Every time I saw a cop, my eye would be drawn straight to his sidearm.... This won't be the case for all Europeans of course, some other european countrys also have armed police. I noticed one in Belgum just last week!

3)Larger, lower density housing.... a town of a couple of hundred thousand over there would typicaly take up five or six times the land area.

4)European men don't "fall on their FANNYS!" laugh.gif We are two nations seperated by a common language tongue.gif

5)The majority (Of those I encountered) had even less interest in politics especialy world affairs than the average Eurpoean.... Though that may have changed a little since the events of 9/11 which fairly forcably raised the profile and importance of such things.

6)Your TV sucks! The shear volume of adverts makes watching ANYTHING pointless "But I Clousaue can identify the murderer... it was...""Mr Muscle oven cleaner for all your kitchen needs..." WTF! They don't even flag that your going to adverts a lot of the time!!!!

Must keep in mind that in a nation where practically every thug is armed...it is mandatory for the police to be armed as well...

It's called More Bang for the Buck! Developers want to profit from every square inch of land. And they do. wink2.gif

That is because the public school system, systematically has been 'dumbing down' the population for the last 25 years.

It isn't just the commercials that suck either. My favorite channel is the weather radar screen tongue.gif Oh, and cops! I love the show Cops! TV sucks.... thumbsup.gif

I understand the reasons, its just as a visitor you don't tend to see the 'thug' side of your gun culture, so its the armed police side that stands out and is noticed.

Nope, you got that ass backwards mate.

Your developers actualy use land far LESS efficiently than the European ones. The UK is a comparitivly small place, we know we don't have that kind of space to waste and so tend to fit far more 'head of population' into the same amount of land than you do over there.

and there is a 7th that a tourist possibly wouldn't notice but I wasn't there as a tourist.....

Your tending to mature slower than we do over here. The lovely lass I was visiting had her daughter (And accompanying boyfriend) living with her.... These 'kids' had never had to make their own way in the 'big bad world', always relied on the parental unit for everything and subsequently had the emotional maturity of a mid teen rather than that I'd expect of someone their actual age (Late 20's, early 30's)

At first I thought it was just those two, isolated case.... but as I got to meet more people from that sort of age group.... well it certainly seems endemic around both St Louis and new york!

I've seen a growing trend in that direction over here in the past few years.... IMO its not a good thing!
