I heard that if someone is the seventh child of a seventh child, that they are more likely to be able to use senses that some of us can't. Like psychic or something. Anyways, my grandmother was one of these people and believe me, she knew stuff that there was no explanation of how. It was after she passed away years ago that I heard this, or I would have asked her about it. Can anyone shed more light for me? blink.gif
Druidus
My greatgrandmother knew the way and the time that my greatgrandfather would die. It was crazy! (And no, she didn't murder him, or set it up, in fact, she died before him)

Never heard of the seventh thing though. In my opinion, everyone has psychic ability. They just need to unlock it.

Druidus is right, you just have to unlock your own power. the 7th son of a 7th son thing probably came from the fact that 7 is supposed to b lucky(dunno y tho)

Your probally right, my "Nan", actually told me that people are "special", but most just don't know it yet. That is bizzarre that your Great grandma knew when your grandfather would die. Did it freak you out when she was right? My nan told me lots of things, her and I were quite close and she said she told me because a lot of others would think she was nuts. It was cool when she would be able to tell me things that I had done even though she wasn't there or would have no way of having heard, nothing bad, just little things.

It is an old belief. I'm not sure where it stems from , but it has been used over and over again many times . I personally think it belongs in the realms of Myth and Legend though and not reality .

Iron Maiden brought out an Album called 'Seventh son of a seventh son ' it was not there best work and brought them no special powers .

I believe it has to do with one of the various numerology systems people used to believe in. Seven was the number associated with all things magical, so the seventh child of a seventh child would supposedly get a double helping of arcane ability...
Mekorig
Here, in Argentina, the comon belief is that the 7th child of a 7th child will become a Lobizon if male ( demonic werewolf) or a wicht (the evil type) if female.

my grandma is the sevnth child of a seventh child. shes dead holy and thinks she knows every thing about heaven. I think she's plain barmy.
seventh_son
Imagine me reading this question? I am the seventh son of a seventh son! I'm
not sure if that make me any different from anyone else! But i can tell you this.
As a teenager i had many occurrences of premonitions. Some of the other kids
were actually scared of me. This lasted till i was in my late twenties then for some reason it vanished. Maybe cause i didn't try to prolong the ability. I'm not really sure! I would think if it was a gift of being a seventh son it would still be with me.
Then again maybe it's waiting for me to see things through the eyes of youth one again. Maybe the fast pace of life and all the worries eroded it!

In dutch folk tales the seventh child of a seventh child can heal people...
...other tales tell they could speak to dead people.

Hope this is any help...

Wierd Al is the 7th son of a 7th son, that is where all his musical ability comes from, he has also been known on occasion to spew up blackberries and other assorted fruits of the forest

7th sons of 7th son's abound in European Folklore from the medieval to victorian periods, particularly in the stories of the lower classes.
The 7 is a lucky number thing goes back to old testiment tradition, and the sabbath.

"And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof: But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard. Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest." Exodus 23:10-12

"And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years. Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land." Leviticus 25:8-10

The number 7 rarely has significance in the mythology of non-Judeo-Christians. For most pre-Christian European peoples, the number 3 has more significance.

Ironicly enough, when they released "The Number of the Beast" they became more famous then ever before.
