Sometimes I wonder why there are no traces of some" ancient civilizations."
But then looking behind the window when rained it struck me .Power of erosion is incredible,it can over few hundred years cover with sand ,erode with water any trace of old civ.So where to look for artifacs ,underwater, undersand, underice?
Easiest would be in sahara desert.I saw somewhere picture made by radar from sattelite of sahara desert.Thousand of years ago there were rivers flowing and vegetation .Very innteresting?

Years ago the city of Troy was thought to be mythical until Heinrich
Schliemann unearthed a hidden city he believed to be Troy in 1870. Since then 9 cities have been unearthed in that spot, but no one knows definitively which one is the epic city Homer write about in the Illaid. Then we come to the Mycenaean civilization a.k.a. Minoans discovered on the island of Crete by Arthur Evans, and then other similiar ruins on Thera, and thought to be the lost island of Atantis written about by Plato. From space, satellites have discoveried a hidden Mayan temple that can only be seen from space due to the emense scale of it in Mexico. It's hard to believe that the Mayan pyramid can only be seen from space because of the size of it, but it's buried under tons of foliage that it looks like merely a large mountain. Then there are ruins submerged underwater beyond the Straits of Gibraltar, mysterious stones off the coast of Bermuda, and strange humps in the Azones that look to some like submerged mountain tops.
Thousands of years of time can destroy a civilization...
...but technology can make it live again!

hmm. its true what u r saying. theres gotta be lots of things that we havent discovered yet that have been eroded upon and covered and things of that nature. and its awesome if they happen to actually find atlantis. i still believe that the Atlantians got punished by getting destroyed due to a massive flood by the ancient greek gods.

If you think about it though it makes sense. If you were an average person living in the ancient world and your cheif/king/prince/shaman told you to build a huge monument you would probably scoff and tell him that food comes first. since most ancients did not supply a surplus of food monuments were not really an option.
Likewise people of that time reused almost everything. many cities have roots in several civs. but after a certian period of time the older culture is simply built over. Or everyone just assumes a certian people were the original builders.
Since most large monuments we point to as signifiers of ancient cultures were constructed of stone it is understandable that we are hard pressed to find similar monuments amoung oher cultures especially when you consider that wood and mud bricks were far more common and easier to produce.
