Nintendo News | Miyamoto Confirms Zelda / Revolution Features!
The industry explodes with shock…

By Barry Lewis (nin10do)

While in Paris collecting a French Cultural Award for his unprecedented contribution to game design, the Official UK and Ireland Nintendo site caught up with Shigeru Miyamoto. When quizzed on the progress of upcoming Nintendo GameCube game 'Twilight Princess', Mr Miyamoto had this to say:

"I would say that we are progressing well with completing it," ... "And one of the most important features is that, because Revolution can run GameCube software, when you play Twilight Princess on Revolution you can take advantage of the Revolution controller."

So that's official confirmation from the man himself, Twilight Princess will have added features when played on the Nintendo Revolution. The full interview can be read here, VIP access required.

That's so awesome! So i can still buy it and play it on the GameCube, and when the time comes i'll eventually be able to play it properly on the Rev as well.

Orcarina of time was my all time favourite and im pretty sure wind waker would have been up there although i got stuck after getting all the mystical spheres and being in the temple place and iv been their since last march crying.gif thumbsup.gif
AztecInca
Well Windwaker was indeed an awesome Zelda game with a rather different graphical approach which I thought worked well although it was slightly too easy for my liking. Ocarine of Time is still the undisputed Zelda champion though.

Although I no longer have my gamecube I was always planning on getting Zelda:TP for the Revolution and this just makes it even more worthwhile!

Any news on the release of Twilight Princess yet (for the GC)? The best I can find is 'Q4 2006'.

IM looking for a new rpg. none of them do it for me anymore.

I would like to deem A Link to the Past as the greatest zelda game.
windwaker as my second fav.
OofTime third.
never played Mmask

secret of mana is my second favorite rpg

Oh! A Zelda thread!! I wish I arrived earlier.

I've played all the Zelda games, minus the ones on the DS. I plan on doing so at some stage.

I am really surprised I completed A Link to the past in 1995, I think I was about 8 then. I remember that being so hard at times, especially in the dark world, I remember the final temple in the dark world before battling Ganon to be really hard. I really do need to replay that at some stage.

I can remember when my brother presented me with Ocarina of Time, he brought it for me when it first came out. My friend was over too, and I was really excited. I think I was about 11, or 12. When playing games like Zelda, I love to spend hours just looking around at the scenery and such. I ended up saving the game, and letting my friend play his own file on the game (he got further than me) and I closed my eyes as he did I didn't see what was to come. I love teasing myself and prolonging things, haha.

Anyway, 6 months later, I finished it, all the gold skutulla tokens and everything. I used to be called the Zelda Master at school, and everyone asked me for help!

I remember I first starte dusing the net in the late 90s, and saw Majora's Mask being produced, then entitled Zelda Gaiden. I was excited! I got that as soon as it came out in 2000.

People often say "Which do you prefer? Ocarina of time, or majora's mask"? Well, I think they are both very different. Ocarina is longer, and an epic, and the first every 3D Zelda game, so it will always be special. But, Majora's Mask is even better in some respects, as it is much darker, mystical, and the interaction between Link and the characters is much deeper. I like that aspect, especially of inpending doom from the moon.

Wind Waker, I do enjoy that, a bit too easy, and short, but even so, still great fun to play. I have OoT,MM and TWW's soundtracks. original.gif

Zelda: TP will be released for both Gamecube and Wii day and date with the Wii's Q4 launch. This will be two different SKUs, not one game with dual functionality.

The fishing level remains as beautiful as ever. Link and his female companion float across a giant lake as the hero tries his hand at reeling in a big one. Players merely hit the B trigger to toggle between canoeing and fishing modes. When Link is set to canoeing, he can gracefully paddle around the lake. His canoe is controlled with the analog stick on the nunchuck unit.

Nintendo's new controller is, of course, a perfect fit for the fishing option in the game. Gamers merely hold down the Wii-mote's A button, pull the pointer back and then cast it forward as they would if they were really out there doing it. Wide, exaggerated gestures will work just fine, but players who would prefer minimal movements can choose simple flicks of the wrist to do the same thing...

...The water in the demo is graphically gorgeous, shimmering realistically and brought to life with transparencies and lighting effects. In most ways it looks better than the water in Super Mario Sunshine. (I should hope so, Mario Sunshine is over 4 years old. blink.gif )

Well its been released on the DS in Japan and is selling well enough considering it was released around the same time as FFIII on the DS. But now Pokemon has been released and within a day around 2 million unites were sold!

Anyway I`m personally staying as far away as possible from in-depth discussions on the story, bosses etc..... of Twilight Princess as I want to trully experince the new Zelda game without too much knowledge of the story apart from what's necessary. Basic previews and reviews are all I`m reading.
BurnSide
That's exactly what i've been doing too. happy.gif

Same for me. Most of what I've seen already is contained in the videos I've posted.

What versions are people going to get? Wii or Gamecube?

Wii. happy.gif I'm getting the Wii and Twilight Princess together on release date. And umm.. booking a few days vacation as well hehe.

Yup, gonna be delivered to my door in THREE DAYS! Oh there goes my life. Again.

Read lots of reviews. General census, game is extremely fun to play, poor unfortunately to look at. The graphics are poor even for a GC game. hmm.gif But because it's so fun and immersive, you don't even notice.
Raptor
Poor graphics for a GC game? It looks great to me, obviously not next-gen though. Shouldn't made a shred of difference if the gameplay is good atleast, I still think OoT and MM are still two of the most enjoyable games to play.

Only...24? days til its release here. yes.gif
BurnSide
That's what i thought too. It looks good, i'm sure it wont matter.
That's what the Penny-Arcade review said though, poor graphics but you don't really notice after awhile.

3 days for me. grin2.gif

Well, look slike i'm going to have to buy a gamecube in the next month or so.

My parents probably wanted me to get a job over christmas break this year. What a suprise they will have when I just sit around playing Zelda, Oblivion and halo for a month.
BurnSide
Well, the good news is if you want to buy a GC you should be able to get one for extremely cheap now that the Wii is practically released.
But.. why would you want to?
KingTomis
I'm not really a huge console gamer and I cant really justify spending $250 on something I would really only be buying to play a single game.

Now I can justify spending $70 or so on a GC because not only do I need it for the new zelda, but my buddies GC hardly works any more from having beer spilled on it on numerous occasions and the house needs a new one.

What can I say, were big fans of drunk Mario party and Mario cart.

You know you can play all your GC games on it, plus you'll probably want it if you like games like Smash Bros. as the new one comes out for the Wii next year.

I heard some mag's complaining about the lack of voice acting in the Twilight Princess, i just dont think some amgs realise that its Zelda tradtion to have captions instead hmm.gif i mean you really cant suddenly give sucha timeless character as Link a voice, can you?
Argen
The problem with the graphic is that the emphasis is really strong in some places, but not in others. For instance, most of the "grassy" ground is really just flat and green, and not covered by blades of grass like in Kameo. However, the water is gorgeous and the twilight realm looks just amazing the first time that you see it. I also think that part of the complaints is that the game is not photo realistic. It does look more realistic than many Gamecube games, but it is stylised and isn't as insanely detailed as other games. Some people take this stylization as just bad graphics and are dissapointed that Nintendo didn't individually render every hair on Link's head and fill everything with imperfections.

In a sense, this is similar to Wind Waker. Some people complained (and still complain) about the poor graphics, because the interpreted the cartoony look as being bad. There are plenty of amazing-looking dungeons and enemies that show the game had plenty of power to boast. Twilight Princess isn't as realistic-looking as Gears of War, but the point is that it's not trying too.

Everybody send hate mail to gamespot.com they gave Zelda TP an 8.8
AztecInca
^lol indeed its an outrage and the lowest score I have seen given to it by anyone so far. The average is 9-9.5 which is just making the wait even more unbearable for us down under.

Raptor
Most player reviews are at around 9.8 so far. Looks hopeful. thumbsup.gif

Picked up the Wii yesterday, BEAUTIFUL piece of machinery i'm extremely delighted with it. Unfortunately the game was sold out but i have a reserve on it for the middle of the week.

I'm not gonna be able to get my hands on it until Xmas day, (good old parents with money tongue.gif), but I can't wait to get to play it.

Let us know how it is Burn. yes.gif

Will do! Check out my Wii review in the other thread.

So my best friends girlfriend asked me what I should get him for Christmas. Specifically if she should get him the wii.

Is it a jelous act to say yes just so I can play Zelda on the wii and have drunken boxing matches and tennis games?

Nahhhhhhhh

^ Tell her to get it its either that or the 360.

You know thats like saying Zelda should of stayed 2d, there are some gamers out there who will tell you the best Zelda games are still the 2D versions.

I seriously would not mind voice overs in the game even if Link did not get a voice the npc's in the game could have them.

lol gamespot went and reviewed the Legend of Zelda on the Wii VC and gave it a 7.2 I guess there going to review every PS1 game that sony puts up for download.

as usual the zelda soundtrack delivers

check it out and promise your self to buy when released to bad only the japanese version you get all seven songs we only get five songs

ShaunZero
X-play gave it a 5/5. IGN gave it an 8.7. That speaks for itself. I've heard X-play make comments towards the Gamespot reviews. In other words, they suck at reviewing.

We are talking about Twilight Princess right?
Super Pancake
^ yeah but the other review was for the first zelda game i think they are going to review the VC games Nintendo releases laugh.gif

gamespot gave it an 8.8 but they do somewhat hold weight, they do review fairly and an 8.8 is still a good score. Unlike IGN or they will give games a 1 or 2 if it sucks. But kind of odd they tacked of points because of control issues, but they loved the controls of madden

X-play is good to but the 5 rating system is poor, and they do have biases on some game especially if their anime related.

and IGN gave Zelda a 9.5

BurnSide
I'm well over halfway through the game, at 25 hours of gameplay.

It looks good, the control system is good, story is great but...

..

I'm dissapointed.
It's pretty much, in terms of fields and dungeons, an exact remake of Ocarina with Windwaker elements. It's quite boring to be honest, because i've done ALL this same stuff over before again and again. There are no puzzles anymore because they're all identical to the last 3 generations of Zelda, so it's not like it's possible to get stuck. There's a few new cool things, the spinning top is freaking awesome for example and little things here and there like bomb-arrows etc. Turning into a wolf is sweet but nothing all that special.

A terrific game, really. Looks good, feels great to control, and the story is very cinematic and deep, which i love. But in terms of Next-Gen, well, they'll have to stop making the same game over and over and over again before it becomes next gen. I'm sick of doing the same forest dungeon, same death mountain dungeon, same water temple, etc etc.

7/10.
Raptor
Aw, I didn't want to hear that. sad.gif

So how does it compare to Ocarina of Time, better but just too similar?
BurnSide
It IS Ocarina of time. And Windwaker. With just better graphics and a slightly different way of controling it (To be honest, just because the controller looks different and you can move it instead of pushing buttons, it's still the same control scheme).

I'm highly enjoying exploring the world again. Kind of like how i enjoyed re-exploring the Mansion in the Resident Evil remake. Except then i was looking forward to a remake, and this one i was hyped for a *new* game.

Don't be dissuaded, it is terrific. Very fun, somehwhat challenging, great graphics and a really great new story that expands on Ocarina pretty well.
ShaunZero
Well, if anyone wants to know more about the game. Read this review.

im not that far just got the the gorons... dont have much time to play sad.gif but so far it is OoT but i like it kinda reminds me of Link to the Past on SNES...so far so good my fav part is when you do the joust with the guy on the huge boar! awesome so far.

Just finished the Temple of Time. Not a great Dungeon to be honest, rather tedious and once again, the puzzles were just rehashed. This time from Windwaker, where you control the statues. It was relatively fun though. Now i have to spend a couple hours or so getting all the stuff i've missed fusfar. I have all the Bugs and a good chunk of heart pieces, but i'm missing some secret moves, a ton of Poes etc. I love the exploration in this game, and the map is so massive that walking the whole thing takes a long time. Thank god for the horse and/or warping as a wolf.

Does the transformation work in a similar way to how you could transform in MM; like being able to change whenever you want to gain some new abilities, or do some chunks of the game force you to be a wolf?
BurnSide
When you first start out, several areas of the world are covered in Twilight. You have to cleanse these areas of the Twilight by collecting light 'Tears' from bugs for the spirit of Light that dwells in each area. However, once you go into the Twilight, you automatically change into a Wolf. It's the only time you can be a Wolf, and you can't change back until the Twilight has been removed from the area. Then you do a Dungeon in the area. After the Twilight is all removed, something happens that makes you change into a Wolf permanently. You have to get the Master Sword as a Wolf to change back into a human. After you have done this, you can change from Wolf/Human anytime you wish.

In Wlf form you can do many things you cannot as a human. You can change your view mode to 'Sense' mode which allows you to see areas that, as a Wolf, you can dig at to get rupies or find hidden caves. You can see Ghosts and Poes and attack them, which you cannot as a Human. You can use special attacks, run much faster, climb to much higher areas plus other things like smelling and following sents. Of course you cannot use items or anything. You can also only warp as a Wolf, since Warping uses the Twilight and the Wolf is Links Twilight form.
JeremyGTS
Yeah im looking forward to get death mountain done then if i recall you do the lake with the zoras next? i think thats how it was in OoT? anyway its great!!! so whos the bad guy is it Gannon? or did they get some new villian?
