Magikman
These are the results of a poll from a British website that lists the 10 greatest science fiction characters of all time:

1. Doctor Who.

2. Spike (from Buffy).

3. Buffy.

4. John Crichton (from Farscape).

5. Aeryn Sun (from Farscape).

6. Han Solo.

7. Willow (from Buffy).

8. Darth Vader.

9. Angel.

10. Gandalf.

I can see why Dr. Who would be on the list considering his origin and everything, but number 1? No doubt Farscape is hugely popular as indicated by the two choices, although, again, John Crichton is a stretch for top 10. Honestly though, 1 character from Buffy is absurd, much less 4, given the vast array of possibilities. I find it hard to believe there's no one from any of the Star Trek series, or Babylon 5, the X-files, older Sci-Fi shows like Quantum Leap, Alien Nation, Lost in Space, V, the Invaders, as well as movies such as, Day the Earth Stood Still, Alien, etc. Except for Gandalf (and to a lessor extent, Dr. Who) science fiction literature isn't even represented - what ever happened to Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Ming the Merciless, Valentine Michael Smith, and countless other characters? The focus seems much too narrow and the choices limited by recent popularity. Am I right? Would you like to list your choices? Here are mine, in no particular order;

Buck Rogers (probably #1)
Mr. Spock
David Vincent from the Invaders
Valentine Michael Smith from Stranger in a Strange Land
Darth Vader
Fox Mulder
Klaatu - Michael Rennie in 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'
Ripley in 'Alien'
Dr. Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap
G'Kar from Babylon 5

Nice find - although I don't particularly agree with their choices either. I fail to understand how four characters from Buffy managed to get in there, and not a single character from Star Trek.

Here's my preferred top 10 sci-fi characters:

( Not in order )

Data ( STTNG )
Yoda ( Star Wars )
Fox Mulder ( X-Files )
Scorpius ( Farscape )
Sam Beckett ( Quantum Leap )
Capt. Picard ( STTNG )
Arnold Rimmer ( Red Dwarf )
Darth Vader ( Star Wars )
Zachariah Smith ( Lost In Space )
The Doctor ( Voyager )

Kira
ph34r.gif Hmmmm well yes 4 from Buffy? as much
as I like the character of Spike and Willow they would not be in my top ten
these are in no order too.

Although MM and SaRuMaN have picked two of my all time favs:

Dr. Smith from the original LOST IN SPACE.<used to love it
when they showed it on a Sunday>

G'Kar from B5.

Scotty from STAR TREK.

Avon from Blakes 7.

Flash Gordon, any of them I have fond memories of
watching the Buster Crabbe version but loved the film,
with the Queen soundtrack.

Al the hologram from Quantum Leap.

Sapphire from Sapphire and Steel.

Severlan from Blakes 7.... I know but it was a fantastic thing to
grow up with esp with a woman being the bad 'guy' so to speak.

Ivanova from B5.

finally Dr who but my all time fav Dr was John Pertwee... rolleyes.gif

So what about the literature top ten any takers to vote first I'm off to check spelling on some of them smile.gif

I agree with your disagreement with the list.

For my own record I would have liked to have seen:

Dana Scully (X Files) - sexy scepticism
Ripley (Alien Films) - strong survivor and role model
C3P0 (Star Wars) - funny eccentric robotic humour
Dr Who (Tom Baker) - British arrogance mixed with 'in-yer-face' stubbornness
Uhura (Star Trek) - just for the name and the scene in Star Trek IV with the translation of Klingon
Sarah Connor (T2) - just love that gritty madness

I'm in total agreement with you all I think they probably asked a bunch of twelve year olds.
My favs are (in no particular order though)

Judge Dredd (who in my opinion was always mean't to be played by Clint Eastwood)

Chianna (from Farscape, just love her jerky head movements)

Han Solo (hmmm.... Harrison Ford)

The King of the Hawk Men in Flash Gorden (Brian Blessed was just made for that role)

Dr Who (of course played by Tom Baker, that voice just oozed intelligence and arrogance)

Q (from Star Trek Next Gen)

ET (who could fail not to love him)

Ripley (In Alien, the other sequals just didn't come up to the mark)

Sarah Conner (In Terminator 2, this sequal did!)

Paul Moadieb (spelt wrong, from Dune)

AM I the only one who's thought that the actors who played these character's (Jerry Doyle, Bruce Willis) are almost carbon copies of each other. They look and talk exactly the same.....

Yeah, but I bet Jerry Doyle comes a lot cheaper.

I really liked the crew from the show "Firefly", a great combo of people that played well off of each other...
