BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Japanese high-tech company Hitachi has produced the world's smallest diamond ring.

The company says the ring, which is made of 5 billionth of a carat embedded in a 0.02 milimeter-diameter tungsten ring, can only be seen clearly under a microscope, reported Wednesday's CRI online.

The company says the tungsten, which is a common substance found in light bulbs, was cut into slices and later fitted with a diamond. And the small diamond came from splinters recovered after polishing larger stones.

Hitachi is the industry leader in small electronics.. they were the first to make a 4gb harddrive the size of a postage stamp, and they were also the first to break 400gb in a "standard" hard drive.

no doubt this was a "we're better then yoooooou" stunt.
