In a case reminiscent of the disappearance of Laci Peterson, a 27-year-old pregnant woman vanished during her daily morning jog, and distraught family and friends turned out Tuesday to search for her.

Lori Kay Hacking, who is five weeks pregnant, went out about 5:30 a.m. Monday, heading from her Salt Lake City home to nearby City Creek Canyon and Memory Grove park for a run.

After she did not show up later for her job at Wells Fargo Bank, her husband, Mark Hacking, called police at 10:49 a.m., Detective Dwayne Baird said.

"She never made it in this morning and I panicked," a tearful and visibly shaken Mark Hacking told reporters. "I called the police. I raced over here and found her car."

Her silver Chevrolet sedan was still parked near the front gates of Memory Grove.

Lori and Mark Hacking had just learned Thursday that she was five weeks pregnant. They have been married five years.

Police said they've interviewed Mark extensively and there has been no indication of any marital problems.

"It's important that he be cleared of any suspicion from the beginning," his father, Doug Hacking, said.

What makes the case all the more mysterious is that the area where Lori disappeared is not isolated or remote. The canyon that is the focus of the search is only about 200 yards from the state Capitol building.

Lori Hacking was last seen by a witness Monday morning when she was stretching near the park, Baird said. She is 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighs 115 pounds and has hazel eyes, a dark complexion and long, dark brown, wavy hair. A Web site has been set up with more information.

I have to agree. Such a sad state of the world we live in....

I saw this woman on the news today... She's quite beautiful.. It's kinda sad that someone would hurt anyone.. although, I guess it is always possible that she ran away, or was abducted by aliens

It's still sad when someone wants to hurt a pregnant woman..

After reading this I only hope that she is having second thoughts about the baby and needs some time out even if the husband has said there were no marital problems, who know's what goes on inside a persons head.
However I cannot imagine she would not make some contact and this looks like another tragic ending to another beautiful life. Very very sad.

Its things like this that really make you wonder about the human race!!! How can people kill or hurt other innocent people.....why it just pisses me off sooo much that most likely this person who is acrrying another life has had her life cut short just becuase of some whacko human!!!
I just hope that she turns up happy and healthy!!!

Her husband s acting suspicious

He was (is?) in the hospital for stress.. this could be a good thing (he's worried) or a bad thing ( he killed her )

They found out that the husband went out to purchase a new mattress and bedding just minutes before calling the police to report his wife missing...

They also found part off his old mattress in a nearby dumpster. The husband is in a mental institution(for stress reportedly. Killing your wife is stressful), and I heard that he has recently been caught in a lie where he had told his entire family that he was heading off to medical school in North carolina when he hadn't even finished his bachelors degree...it isn't going to end well.

It is really sad, but I can't see how the woman isn't already gone and buried. Grownup who go missing under circumstances like this just don't come back.

Another copy cat crime. Men think they can get away with this sort of thing when they see it in the news.

I want to add that Peterson didn't have a conscience, whereas this fella broke down.

I read that they have found that the husband Mark, was claiming to have graduated from college and had applied and been accepted to medical school. In further reading, I read that this is why they were planning to move. Apparently Lori had already told friends and co-workers that she was leaving and had quit her job.

It has now been stated that Mark, the husband did not graduate and was not accepted to any medical school.

As to his being in the hospital for stress. I also read that Mark had been found by police to have been running around a motel naked. Apparently he was running around the outside of the hotel with nothing on.

It could be that Mark the husband did not know how to tell family and friends that he had not graduated. He may have been going through the motions, trying to find a way to tell everyone. Now his story is out and his wife is missing. I think this could probably put stress on anyone.

No matter what the real story, I hope they find Lori safe and well. I also hope for the family as a whole that the husband is not involved and that no one must be marked by tragedy.

My thoughts are with the Hackings and their families.

I've been following this story, it's definitely sad.

Unfortunately they do have the cadaver dogs in the search. That means that they do have reason to believe that she is dead. They're looking for a body.

From what they're saying in the news, if it's true that the husband has been lying about graduating from college and being accepted into medical school, it's very suspicious. I hope they're keeping a close eye on him.

The reason they are using Cadaver dogs already, is because they found traces of blood with florecent lights around the place she was supposedly abducted. I'd also like to note, that there is no telling if the couple had marital problems at this point. Remember the Laci Perterson case? Everyone said they were a perfect couple, then like a month later we find out he'd been having an affair. And had had another one durring their first year of marriage.

She may have realized there was something wrong, but she probably was afraid of him. These guys are very cunning and ruthless, he may have even threatened her.

They are so convincing, their families many times don't understand them or are unable to figure them out. Many doctors, too, are taken in by them.

Hacking Ran Therapy Sessions on Psych Ward

(AP) - Former patients at a psychiatric hospital where Mark Hacking worked as an orderly said Hacking, who is accused of killing his wife, insisted patients call him "Franz" although they knew his real name. The two former patients, one speaking on condition of anonymity, also told The Associated Press that Hacking once ran unauthorized group therapy sessions.

Hacking, 28, is in jail and accused of killing his wife and disposing of her body in a garbage bin.Lori Hacking, 27, is believed by authorities to have discovered that her husband had been lying for years about his education and plans to become a doctor.


The couple had packed for a move to a North Carolina medical school where, it turns out, he wasn't enrolled. Hacking's family was astonished to discover he had also been lying about having graduated from college.


The University of Utah said Friday that Hacking ran group "activities," not therapy sessions, although the former patients recalled Hacking relishing a role as therapist — asking about their concerns and taking notes on their behavior.


They said he acted "like a person in authority" and rewarded them with cigarette breaks.


Former patient Nedzad "Ned" Rosic said Hacking was known as a "psych tech" but acted as a therapist while "shaving his head and pretending to be Franz."


Hospital officials confirm Hacking wore a "Franz" name tag but say it wouldn't have been officially issued.

God, he is crazy

Looks like this poor woman did find out about his history and lies. They found a very informative letter she wrote to 'the psycho'. I am sure she was afraid of him and very unhappy....as her letter stated; she didn't want to live there (with him) if things couldn't change.

Unfortunately she didn't know how to handle the situation and couldn't get help, at least, not in time to save her life.
