At the moment, only moderators and admins can post news to the news board - all users including guests can post replies to existing threads, however.

What I'm looking for at the moment, are any forum members who would be interested in joining the "News Poster" member group, thus allowing the posting of news in the forum's news board that will then appear on the site's front page. Unlike the old system, posting news is now simply a matter of starting a new thread on the forum, rather than trying to get to grips with a complicated news script.

For an example, have a look at the two or three articles posted at the top of the "News, Discoveries and Findings" board. You can also see the way those articles turn out on the column by checking out the front page. The number of replies to the forum topic, is displayed as the number of comments on the front page article.

If you'd like to join the News Posters group, then feel free to let me know either via E-Mail, PM, or by simply replying to this thread. I'm also open to any and all comments, questions or suggestions regarding the new news system or member groups.

I'll join, sounds a lot better than getting to grips with the news script.

I can post news from Yahoo news on Science, Technology and odd stories.

I gave it a test run, but I don't know if I did it correctly. The article appears on the main page, but it doesn't show the view complete article tag nor the source tag. Is that something you put in yourself later, or did I miss an important step?

Sorry about that, I actually forgot to include the bit of code for the source/link part at the end. To get that, all you need to do is copy and paste the following bit of code at the end of the news post:

Substitute "FULL ARTICLE URL" for the link to the full article, and "SOURCE LINK" and "SOURCE NAME" for the link and name of the source web site. ( If there is no source web site, just remove everything from "| Source:" onwards.

I'll post a news posting tips thread in the news board shortly, which will include this code and answers to any other queries that crop up regarding the posting of news.

Update:

I have made a few changes to the front page - all three news columns have now been combined together into a single news column. Basically you can now post space/tech and bizarre news into the same board as the main news. This makes the whole system much more efficient, and completely removes the need for the Coranto news script.

I will be adding a few more new features to the front page very soon - and the "latest topics" box will be changed so that it reports the latest posts rather than only new threads. A site stats box will also be added to the right hand side of the main page, and the links to the old bizarre and space/tech pages will be removed.

At the moment I'm currently working on a new news-posting system, that will basically allow absolutely anyone to post news articles for potential inclusion on the main news column.

I'm not looking for any new poster members until then, but once it's complete you will be able to participate as a news poster aswell.

I'll post more about it nearer the time.
