Yes, you can find that rumor in many conspiracy sites. A little silly, actually. A computer wouldn't have to be nearly that big to run the world. It's a myth from the days when computers actually were that size.
Cobalt Demon
It MUST be a rumor. If they really have a such thing, do you think we would be worrying about N Korea having nukes? Do you think we would have a such hard time to win war? It is a myth cause NO country would want have a powerful computer control everything over their by other country. So it must just be basically a satellite or ISP server that link to alot of countries or something, but certainly not control everything. That would be like you giving your neighbor permission to hook your whole house to their computer so they can control everything going on in your house.
wardrich
ya... it's a rumor. My computer is only a mid-sized one with a BEAST of a cooling system. It's hard to control the world without it. laugh.gif
AffinityForEvil
sounds to much like the terminator. its probly fake but if not i wana see this thing in action devil.gif

I want its IP address. One could have fun with a computer of this level wink2.gif

With a mouse the size of a Volkswagon! And you should see the monitor!

What's this about my computer now? grin2.gif
Asterix
That story reminds me of the "Apollo 13" film, the scene where Tom Hanks says to the reporters: "...a computer small enough to fit into a single room" grin2.gif

I beleive you are refering to one of the mircosoft buildings. And yes Bill Gates the antichrist. And his computer will beat us at chess. sad.gif

And it still isn't fast enough to run Doom3 with all of the graphics turned up...

Sounds like some kind of urban legend to me.

Dell Computers presents: The Beast (powered by Intel Pentium processors).

LOL

There have been enough science fiction movies warning us of this possibility that nobody will fall for it.

But by the time they built it, it would be oselete anyway.

Or Microsoft will make sure for it to need a whole bunch of Service Packs and security patches.. whistling2.gif

What, didn't you see the size of the mainframe in The Matrix? That's about as alternative as history would get!

Hi,

My opinion:
Firstly, if it is true about this machine being 3 blocks long and 3 stories high....I would call it a "Beast" alright. grin2.gif

Secondly, "It controls everything"...hmmm...thats a possiblility if you consider the extend of the computer networking systems around the world. eg, With your Visa card, u can actually be "tracked" whenever you make a purchase anywhere in the world.

Finally, for the end off days......I believe it will happen one day...but when, I dare not speculate.

In short: I believe in the possibility of such a machine existing. Where it is located? I dont know. blink.gif Cheers
Ps,: mainframes can be really huge!...I work in a mainframe environment...I know..Trust me.

No offense to anyone who lives there, but if there were a "beast," (and there isn't) it probably wouldn't be in Belgium. tongue.gif
artrox
No, it's hiding in the hills of West by Gosh Virginia..
Cor Raven...the pics are great!!! and gave me a laugh out loud.
