Hahaha! I didn't even see that. What a cute pun tongue.gif.

I'm happy for Peyton, but I'm more happy for Archie Manning....all those years with the HORRIBLE Saints teams of the 70's....he can now be a part of a Superbowl...even if it's vicariously through his son...it's something.

The Bears couldn't have PRAYED for better weather conditions, everything pointed towards The Bears taking home the trophy in the first few moments of the game......but it's 4 quarters long.
NME_locus
Even though I am a COLTS fan all the way... I do not believe that Peyton Manning deserved the MVP... it should have gone to Joseph Addai or Dominic Rhodes.

I agree. I dont think Manning has done any good lately.

Between the Colts and Patriots game, it seemed that the Colts did really well when Manning was on the bench; the same for this game in my opinion. It kind of upset me to see the camera pan straight to manning as they won showing him with his fist raised like he actually did something.
snuffypuffer
I completely agree on the MVP thing. Both Addai and Rhodes were shredding the Bears defense the whole night. Manning did pretty well, yardage wise, but for the most part he got shut out of the end zone.

Well let's start.. with a list of things he did on Super Bowl.. which I probably won't be able to name.

First of all, there's more to a quaterback with a good arm and no brain... like Rex Grossman.

Peyton was successfull at:
-Managing game
-managing clock
-reading coverage and going run
- as I recall, he threw a touchdown pass pff his back foot to Reggie Wayne.
- He sat in the pocket as he was supposed to.
- and he threw for 247 yards against the Bears

Just because he didn't do his usually stunning footwork and laser passing, does not mean he sucked... it simply means he knows that this game was not all about him, and he had faith in his offense to run, more importantly to win the game.

Was that enough for you? He didn't do bad, it's just there were guys that earned it more.
~Onyx~
The M.V.P. should have gone to the entire defensive unit of The Colts. As much malinged as they were heading into the playoffs, they carried the entire team through the playoffs, and were solid against a supposed "physical" team in Da Bears....Manning was alright...not spectacular...but alright. Maybe they should have given The M.V.P. to anyone who diddn't have a turnover, sheeeeesh.

Booyah! How about them colts!!!!!

Now that's the REAL Grossman we all know tongue.gif

Manning deserved the MVP. Rhodes played better than Addai, but Manning deserved it. Like NME said, he managed the clock, drove down the field, called the plays, everything!

Manning, you are going to Disneyland!

Frogfish, this "dislike" for Grossman and Da Bears wouldn't have anything to do with them being in the same division as a certain team from The Twin Cities...would it?

This is supposed to be a real good(deep) draft this year, to. Something tells me that The Dolphins will be looking to trade-down to accumulate extra picks(they have all of their picks but their 5th rounder that went to Detroit for Harrington). This time before The Draft, when you can't belive a word ANYONE affiliated with an N.F.L. team says about ANYTHING to do with The Draft, is one of the toughest times for a football fan to have to undure.

thumbsup.gif ...Those are always interesting, and good for conversation and debate....but they INVARIABLY change 3-4 times between now and draft-day, lol. You can't believe ANYTHING you see or hear from this point on...unless the 1st overall signs a contract early(which they have been know to do when you have a clear-cut #1).

It's always better to wait till after the top players pro-days at they're universities/colleges to make a final assessment..........and then you STILL can't believe a word you hear, lmao.

Mock drafts are HARD...yes, even the most professional mock drafts can be 50% wrong. All it takes is one pick.

These things are fun, but I have pneumonia so I will just say this:
The best players in the draft will be people no one ever expected to be any good.
The top picks will be incredibly overrated.
One team, probably my Cowboys -- Wade Phillips! What the hell??!!! -- as usual, will make one titanically ignorant pick.

Actually, The Cowboys have drafted rather well in the past couple of years(Ware, Spears, Carpenter, Jones, Barber, Williams, Newman....etc.). I don't understand the Wade Phillips hiring, but then again, who else would YOU have chosen....whose available? Norv Turner? Dennis Green?

Let the Steelers have what they want in compensation and throw as much cash as it takes at Bill Cowher. Get the best coach out there. Not someone who was stunningly average in his two previous coaching stints.

As good as Bill Cowher was(and is) as a coach, anyone who gives up draft picks for a coach in this day and age is nuts(see the soon to be fired John Gruden in Tampa Bay). I think they should have given the job to Jason Garrett, give the kid a chance, he's familar with the organization and Jerry Jones. The best part of that is that next year, not only will Cowher be available, but so will Bill Belichick, and the afore mentioned Gruden(if he has another losing season), and possibly Mike Holmgren....so if Garrett isn't up to snuff, you go shopping.

There's a nightmare for me to consider. The coach I hate the most, Belichick, coaching my Cowboys. If that were to ever happen, I might actually let my wife convert me over to the Dark Side known as 49ers fandom. And let's just agree to call Gruden a flash in the pan (as much as I love the guy's intensity), and tell the truth that Holmgren is vastly over-rated?
There is actually an Urban Legend that on cold still nights in January and February around Seattle, if you're still, you can hear the mournful cries of the walrus: "Brett, Oh Brett, why did I ever leave you and Green Bay. We could have won so many Super Bowls together. Instead, I'm stuck with a reinvention of Trent Dilfer that pees his jockstrap at critical moments. Oh, Brett.....<inconsolable sobbing>"
Actually, I think Garrett would have been an excellent choice at coach. He was my second pick right behind Cowher, and right ahead of Mike Singletary.
Can you tell I am looking for intensity here? Whole damn team, defense espeically need someone light a flamethrower under thier butts. And sadly Wade Phillips looks to have all the intestinal fire of Captain Kangaroo.
And frigging T.O. still has not been traded/cut/executed/sold to the Mexican Wrestling Federation. Oh yeah, next year is going to be a fun 7-9. Worse than the 49ers should do.
My house is going to be a fun place next fall. hmm.gif

Gloom and doom...I recognize this...I live in Miami, ya' know, lol. It's all up to Romo...The Cowboys will go as far as Romo takes them(and staying relatively injury free). All the pieces are in place to make a playoff run. T.O....not sure WHAT to make of the best receiver in the N.F.L., but if Jerry Jones proved one thing, it's that no matter what T.O. says or does, they'll ALWAYS be someone out there willing to write him a big check for what he's done in the past...the question now is, when will all the G.M.'s in the N.F.L. figure-out that T.O.'s best days are behind him?

When he sets a league record for drops next year.
Ugh, do not say Romo.
Can't even hold for a kick. Granted he did play well when the games meant less, but after a lifetime spent as a Red Sox fan, I don't respect the early season performers.
If Romo suddenly gets his head right again, and does play well next year, I am still not convinced that the 'Boys will make the playoffs. T.O. will start a circus at some point -- and not the good kind that Dallas used to thrive on; remember how much better they were when everybody was a cokehead and the head coach was trying to take handguns on to airplanes -- and things will just distentergrate from there. I might actually believe that the 'Boys could make a playoff run if T.O. wasn't on the roster. That fact alone has me dreading next season.

Who thinks Dwayne Jarrett should of stayed at USC one more year? I do. Calvin Johnson is much better.
snuffypuffer
As long as the Cowboys have TO there's going to be a revolving door in the coach's office. The guy's a cancer, pure and simple.

And if they hire Cowher next year, that means I'll have to start liking the Cowboys, and I'm not prepared to make that leap.

The 'Boys are stuck with T.O...at least for 1 more year, then he'll most likely be cut.....nobody's gonna trade for him, THAT'S for sure.

I don't think Cowher will be coming out of retirement any time soon(within the next 5 years), he's won his Championship and validated his head coaching career.

What do you think the chances of Randy Moss are of being traded, and what do you think The Raiders would(or should) get in compensation?

Randy Moss will probably be out of Oakland soo for some decent recievers...

I'd trade him for a bag of donuts and maybe a flashlight. I think Oakland needs to work on some defense first.

Last year defense wasn't they're problem, they were actually in the top ten in total defense, it's they're offensive line and QB where they are vastly below average. I wouldn't realistically give up more than a 3rd round pick for Moss(especially given the 4mil you'd have to inherit).
Super Pancake
Heard what happened to Marty, damn shame this was a team that actually could of gone all the way next season, they lose a couple of coordinators and now the head coach looks like there going to have to start all over again.
Zombie Boy
The Raiders better not get rid of Moss, i think that would be just stupid. As long as they draft a QB they will be fine this year. Their Defense is good, whoever said it wasn't is completely wrong, lol. I'm glad they grabbed the new coach also, hopefully the players will actually listen to him. As long as he doesn't piss off Porter, lol.

I tend to agree with you...but the major problem for Oakland is finding takers, considering what Moss is currently making(and his accelerant towards the salary cap when he's traded) and what Porter wants to get paid. I think you'll find The Dolphins interested in Moss and vise-versa...depending on the asking price, of course!!!

Don't look now Frogfish, but the latest Mock Draft by Don Banks of SI has The Vikes taking Ted Ginn jr. of Ohio State...wouldn't that cause a rip the the very fabric of tome/space?tongue.gif

I don't think you'll see Johnson make it past the fourth pick(Tampa Bay) he's the only sure-fire, can't miss offensive talent in the top-ten, Quinn could go as high as #1 overall(The Raiders) or as low as #9(Miami)...he's this years Aaron Rodgers. Hahaha...I doubt it, Charlie Casserly getting canned after that fiasco probably opened ALOT of eyes around the league, lol. The Mock I saw in SI had Thomas going 2nd overall to Detroit(poor fella)...I'd LOVE for him to fall to Miami at #9, Ted Ginn jr. wouldn't make me cry either. The more I analyze this draft(pro-day's aside), the more I see Miami taking Quinn with #9 beacuse everyone after Detroit(this is contingent on Oakland falling in love with Russell from L.S.U. and choosing him #1 overall) is pretty much set at QB, until you get to Miami, who I don't think could pass(no pun intended) on Quinn....unless someone offers them the world to trade-down, lol.

Minnesota could possibly take Quinn. I don't think Tavaris Jackson is our QB.

I know Brad Johnson ain't gettin no younger...but do you really think they'd invest a draft pick in a QB this year(considering they used a 2nd rounder on Jackson last year)...especially since you really don't know what Jackson can do given the amount of playing time he's received.

How is Williamson viewed up there, Frogfish? Do you think that The Vikes would take Ginn jr. given that they also invested their top pick in a WR last year?

Down here the consensus is that you'll have(realistically) a choice of 4-5 good players fall into your lap at #9.....Quinn, Levi Brown, Alan Branch(you might know him, lol), Ginn jr. or Dwayne Jarrett....anybody else, that is projected to go top-5, falling THAT far down the draft order would mean either a horrible pro-day work-out or an injury of some sort...I don't see either scenario occuring.
frogfish
Alan Branch is definitely the best DL in the draft. What I want to know is why Lamar Woodley's stock has dropped so much? I viewed him as the best DE in the draft, and in the mock drafts, there are easily 4-5 DEs in front of him.

Williamson is considered a bust in Minnesota. We have no WRs now. Our best WR was let go after the season, and our best pass catcher is our TE, Wiggins.

But Jackson also struggled when we gave him playing time...What good would a WR be without a good QB?

Hearing it 1st hand from someone in the local "know" makes the picture much more clear, and I agree that without a competent QB, I don't care WHO you have at WR(see Oakland), your not going far.

Woodley is a good DE, and has proven himself against some of the premier talent in the nation...but the draft is about potential, and while Woodley has shown that he can hold his own, alot of GM's see him as stout against the run but not as explosive off the edge as Gaines Adams or Jamaal Anderson, he's a solid DE but not viewed as a "game-changer" coming off the edge at the pro-level.
