I heard about that, and my heart sank. I pray he'll recover and be able to resume his career. There's two things you have to do at the end of EVERY year if your in charge of personel, IMO. First: Determine what personel you expect to ahev back next year, even the GOOD teams experience a 20-30% turnover in personel every year. Second: Determine what your strengths and weaknesses were with the personel you have coming back and how you can maximize that talent in the upcoming season...you NEVER stop evaluationg your team, from your #1 QB to the last player on the 53 man roster.

That being said, defense was one of the strengths of the team last year, especially the front seven. The Vikes need more playmakers on offense, and unless Childress knows something I...or the rest of the league....don't, then I can'tt understand how he could be confident that he could get the h=job done by leaning on Peterson. He came outta college with a rep for getting injured(an unfair rep, if you ask me), and he got injured last year cause they leaned on him to be THE WHOLE offense, and for a while he delivered, but you can't ask your running game to be your whole offense, you can't get away with that for a whole season. They either need a TE that can stretch the middle of the field and keep the LB's from crowding the box, or a WR threat that makes the safety stay over the top....that's contingent on them keeping Jackson as their #1 QB.

If I were The Vikes, I'd make an inquiry into the availability of Jeremy Shockey, who seems to have his days numbered in NY.

True true. Minn should of never let go of Jermaine Wiggins. He was a great recieving TE.

I just don't know what's going on withing Childress's head.

How come Congress has suddenly taken an interest is sports? Don't they have anything better to do?

Its a sad state of affairs that are happening to both the NFL and MLB, just sad to hear congress having to step in and airing out dirty laundry for the public to see that could of been dealt within the the organization.

Its just smells of dog crap on the bottom of thier shoes when they walk into the room.

The Fins cut Zach Thomas, an empty, empty feeling, that was.
~Cheese~
Steelers we can get Crumpler! Wow Falcons are cleaning house..
frogfish
The Steelers don't need Crumpler. They already have Miller and Spaeth!

What was going on in Bill Parcel's mind with cutting Thomas? He would of easily been a Pro Bowler last year if he didn't get injured. He was leading the league in tackles.

He's still one of the top LBs in the league.
~Cheese~
Yes we do!!! Lol.. Since Ben is syaing he needs taller recievers let's get him all the help he needs! IMO WE HAVE TWO VERy TALL TIGHTENDS.. Which I don't agree with Ben but Thomas is the heart of the Dolphins!!!
~Onyx~
Unfortunately, Zach Thomas was 35 years old and coming off 2 concussions in the same season, the last of which he got from getting rear-ended in a traffic accident leaving Dolphins Stadium(as if going 1-15 wasn't a big enough kick in the ass). He had a large cap #(and upwards of 6-8 million, I think) and he wasn't the type of LB Parcells likes in his 3-4 defense. All the numbers stacked-up against Zach...age...money...philosophy....it's the part of the business that nobody like to talk about, but it's a stark reality. He'll catch on someplace, hopefully someplace that has a realistic chance to contend for a championship. He's a seven-time Pro Bowler, the leading tackler in Dolphin history, and still believes he has something left to offer a pro team, and I agree with him.
~Cheese~
OH I hope the best for him. The endtire defense roster of the Dolphins is aging!!

So do I, one of the players that, not only the whole Dolphins organization, but the NFL itself could really hang they're hat on. The semi-good news for The Fins is that with them releasing Thomas, they now have about 40 mil under this years salary cap, and SHOULD be a major player in the free agent market this off season. Hopefully they'll make a run at Asante Samuel(NE) or Alan Faneca(Pit), maybe get some under-the-radar younger talent to reinfuse that aging defensive front. They have so many holes all over the place, this is FAR from a one or two year deal, IMO.
~Cheese~
IMO This is a 4 year plan! First they need to fix the offense.
~Onyx~

Probably, it all depends....as it does with MOST successful teams.....on the drafting, you draft well, you succeed, you don't draft well, you become The Dolphins, The Lions, The Cardinials, The 49'ers and so on. You could go either way, on either line(defensive or offensive) and probably pick a winner in this years draft with where The Fins are picking(if they stay in the #1 spot). You'd have you choice of Dorsey, Chris Long, or Ellis on defense and Jake Long, or possibly a trade-down and select Ryan Clady(even though I believe Chris Williams will be available at the top of the second round). Either way, it's going to be an interesting draft at the top.
~Cheese~
The fins really need to get multiple draft picks!!! Oh And what spot is the Steelers on the draft?

The Steelers pick 23rd.
~Cheese~
Thanks Onyx. Steelers Need to make a move in the Free Agency pool!
~Onyx~
A lot of head-scratching moves made by some teams in free agency so far, but still no contract for Randy Moss, that may be the biggest head-scratcher of them all so far.

There was a rumor of Jason Taylor being "moved" or that he and The Fins would be "parting ways" before the draft, to which The Tuna replied "unless he retires, he's gonna play for The Dolphins next year". I don't see how The Fins could move Taylor even if they wanted to, his cap # is just to high, and I know that Parcells wouldn't just cut him.
Bear's Quest
Atlanta Falcons has been busy so far, Michael Turner from San Diego, has signed for a 6 yr. contract. They now have a fresh running game along with Jerious Norwood.

Just heard they released Warrick Dunn.
~Cheese~
I just read that also with the releasing of Dunn.. I'm not surprised.. I live in Atlanta and Dunn has a good heart and soul but He was up at age.. Oh and The Pats are not going to Let Moss slip away.
~Onyx~
Any word on what The Falcons are gonna do with DeAngelo Hall? I know they want to move him, but I'm not sure what they're asking.

played in college. In Rugby you are not always tackled by others running at full speed as with football. You would be amazed how many people get hurt in practices where we would wear no equipment. Especially collar bones.
~Onyx~
Well, here's my stab at the top ten, taking into consideration recent...and possible soon to be(Pacman Jones?)...acquisitions:

#1 Miami: Chris Long DE/OLB Virginia

I'm tempted to put Jake Long in this spot(couldn't really go wrong with either one, considering how much help The Fins need on BOTH lines), considering that Vernon Carey is playing outta position(he a natural RT), even though he's battled admirably, and I wouldn't be too worried if they had to move him back there in a pinch, plugging in a player like Jake Long at LT would give you a VERY good set of bookend tackles. All that being said, Chris Long's versatility and non-stop motor and effort...and familarity with the 3-4 that the new Fins braintrust wants to institute...give him the edge at this point, that and out of the last 9 first round selections Bill Parcells(and lets not fool ourselves about who'll have the final say on this draft pick if they can't trade out of it and get good value, which they can't and won't) has made as a coach/GM/dude that has the last say in personel decisions, 7 of them have been defensive, so I've got track record going for me on this pick as well.

#2 St. Louis: Jake Long OT Michigan

Really the pick should say: Whatever Long The Fins don't select, LOL, but since I'm going with Howie's kid with #1, The Rams get Long part Deux(that sounds vagely pornographic and makes me chuckle*chuckles*). Jake would not only give them an insurance policy against another Orlando Pace holdout(not likely) or another Orlando Pace prolonged stint of the DL(you can just about set your watch by that), but would also give them the stud OT they need until Pace retires(he's currently 32) or they figure out if Alex Barron is a bust or not.

#3 Atlanta: Glenn Dorsey DT LSU

Yeah, that's right, I said it, Glenn Dorsey NOT Matt Ryan. Forgive me, but I personally haven't seen one thing that would indicate to me that Matt Ryan is a top-ten talent, let alone a top-five talent. Glenn Dorsey is a top-five talent and STILL could end up going #2 to St Louis, but I believe that to be successful in the NFL, you better be able to either run the football(and with the addition of Michael Turner via UFA, they will) or stop the run, which is what a guy like Dorsey can do for you.

#4 Oakland: Vernon Gholston DE/OLB Ohio State University

WHAT!!!???(I can hear all of you screaming) NO DARREN MCFADDEN!!!??? ARE YOU CRAZY???!! Not hardly, if there's one thing that so-called draft expets NEVER seem to take into account, it M-O-N-E-Y. A quick glance at the roster of The Oakland Raiders will show you LaMont Jordan, Dominic Rhodes, and(just newly resigned) Justin Fargas. In other words, there is A TON of money alread invested in the RB position in Oakland, and no matter who tells you how much Al Davis in enamored with speed, if there's one thing you CANNOT get around(especially with the ridiculous signing bonuses that these top five picks will get, even though they haven't played A DOWN of pro ball yet) is money. Now, am I saying that money alone will dictate that The Raiders won't take McFadden, not by a long shot, it's my belief that they'll wait for The Cowboys to pony-up with an offer they can't refuse(don't think they'll get it, personally), and if they don't get it from them, they'll wait till the last possible moment. With the retirement of Warren Sapp, they need someone to take the pressure off of Derrick Burgess as the main pass-rush threat, and Gholston has the ability to do that, as well as drop into coverage and generally cause confusion and havoc on Rex Ryans pressure defense.

#5 Kansas City: I preface this pick by saying: If you were EVER gonna see The Cowboys or another team that has fallen in love with McFadden move up to get him, it will be here. That being said: Ryan Clady OT Boise State

He's the highest rated OT on the board, and would be a bit of a reach at #5, which is why I believe that The Chiefs will listen WILLINGLY to any and all offers to move down a few slots, but not too many, and still try and get Clady, Otah, or Chris Williams. They are in a advantageous position, considering that The Jets who pick 6th are almost certain to take McFadden if he's there, and if they don't New England may stuff the pick in a midgets mouth and shoot it outta a cannon up to the Comish's podium while doing cartwheels in the draftroom. I fully expect Dallas to offer the sun, moon, and stars to get up in front on NY and New England, cause McFadden won't make it past either of them.

#6 N.Y. Jets: Darren McFadden RB Arkansas

Yes, they just traded for Thomas Jones. Yes, they need someone to help rush the passer. No, they will not pass up this shot at a talent like McFadden. He gives them a homerun threat that Jones simply can't, and as much as I like Leon Washington as a change-of-pace RB, he's not durable enough to be a back you can depend on for more than spot-duty/ kickoff and punt returns. If McFadden is gone before The Jets pick, look for them to go top-rated CB on the board.

#7 New England: Leodis McKelvin CB Troy

We all know how much The Pats love versatility, and McKelvin can line up at either CB position and return punts and kickoffs, he's they're kinda guy, and if he dosen't work out with the football thing, I hear he's got a killer camcorder.

#8 Baltimore: Matt Ryan QB Boston College

New head coach, new QB. That's usually the way it goes, the new coach hitches his wagon to his QB, and if he's gonna do that, then he's gonna do it with the QB of his choice. Besides, if he dosen't do it, he's stuck with Steve McNair(he gets injured just THINKING about taking a snap), Kyle Boller(million-dollar arm, five cent head), and Troy Smith(showed he can move the team late in the year, but won't get a chance to be the man in Baltimore, unfortunately). After Ryan there's a drop-off at the QB position, kinda like last year, and Baltimore can't be confident enough to think that they'll get Brian Brohm, Joe Flacco(who some are saying might climb into the lower half of the first round), or Chad Henne in the second round, and even if he did, they're new coach won't want to pin his employment hopes on a second or third round talent.

#9 Cincinnati: Sedrick Ellis DT USC

I REALLY like this kid, and it's my firm belief that if he were 2 or 3 inches taller and 10 pounds heavier, he would be the consensus #1 draft pick. He just blows past interior offensive linemen like they're standing still and simply DOMINATED at this year Senior Bowl. He's gonna be a star in the league soon, as long as he stays relatively injury-free and dosen't get ruined by an idiotic defensive coach who tries to ask him to do things he can't.

#10 New Orleans: Mike Jenkins CB University of South Florida

They shored up the LB core with the addition of Jonathan Vilma from The Jets in an trade, then picked up CB Randall Gay from The Pats, but they still need help in the defensive backfield, and Jenkins is the highest-rated CB left on the board. I was going to go with Keith Rivers here, but I think this spot is too high for him, and Vilma's acquisition makes LB less of a priority, and can be addressed in round 2-3.

Well, that's my story and I'ma stickin to it, at least until I change my mind, LOL.

**Editied to say that, as of today, Oakland just signed Kalimba Edwards(DE/OLB) formerly of Detroit to a two year contract. That signing may change they're thinking on the pick of Gholston.
~Cheese~
Lol those are very risky. I agree with the Oakland raiders Pick and the New England pick.
~Cheese~
Since Onxy did the 1-10 draft picks, I'll follow up with my 11-20 picks. original.gif

Buffalo (7-9)
The Pick: Keith Rivers, LB, USC
Cheese's Insider: The Bills linebacking core has been weaken over the past 2 seasons.. With them adding Rivers, They should focus on their other weakness.

Denver (7-9)
The Pick: Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St.
Cheese's Insider: I had high hopes for this team but the offense let them down. Adding Clady will protect Jay Cutler.

Carolina (7-9)
The Pick: Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Cheese's Insider: The Panthers ahve too many Qb's already but their just average. With this pick the Panthers should grab Brohm. ( If he's still on the board )

Chicago (7-9)
The Pick: Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
Cheese's Insider: Many see The Bears going after McNabb but I don't.. The Bears have many offensive NEEDS! with The O-line and Wide Recievers!!

Detroit (7-9)
The Pick: Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida
Cheese's Insider: The Lions D-line should improve with this addition..

Arizona (8-8)
The Pick: Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn
Cheese's Insider: The Cardinals defense needs a playmaker upfront.

Houston (8-8)
The Pick: Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
Cheese's Insider: The Texans will look to add a top cover man and Cason is their guy.

Philadelphia (8-8)
The Pick: Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
Cheese's Insider: The Eagles are looking for a true No. 1 receiver and this guy is a playmaker!! I love the Eagles and they mos def need help with upgrading their offense.

Tampa Bay (9-7)
The Pick: Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
Cheese's Insider:Now this where it gets interesting.. All the Buc's Qb's are over age. They could either go QB or RB but I see them going RB because of Williams injuries.

That Concludes My List. Too many 8-8 teams. In this draft, there is depth at every position but no standouts..

I would like to Give a thanks to Rivals.com for helping me with these picks.. I agreed with most and some I didn't.

Go STEELER'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! original.gif

Those are great, Cheese, thanks for posting them. I certainly hope things fall that way. I really like the kid outta Vanderbilt, Chris Williams. I think he's ready to step in right away and be somebody's starting LT. If he were to slip into the second round, I think(well, if I we the GM, anyway, LOL) The Fins would jump all over the opportunity to plug him into the starting LT spot. Sadly though, I doubt he'll make it past Houston at #18, if he does, I'll be stunned.
The Mule
Sorry Cheez, but with Posluszny coming back from injury and the Kawika Mitchell signing, linebacker isn't a thought for the Bills. Unless of course they have one rated as the dreaded "best athlete available." Which is still highly unlikely. They'll be taking a big WR or a CB.

It all depends on whether or not The Bills braintrust "falls in love" with a particular player, and if they feel they're in a position to draft him. They may love Malcom Kelly, Limas Sweed, DeShawn Jackson or Devin Thomas, who are all projected to go in the 1st round(with experts split upon who'll go first, Sweed or Kelly). James Hardy is projected by most to go in the early part of the 2nd round, but some team my fall in love with his size(6'6") and reach for him. DB is pretty deep this year, with a lot of players deemed "talented but raw" in terms of upside, but McKelvn, Jenkins, Cason and Talib have been dubed 1st round worthy. If I had to venture a guess, I would go with The Bills going with the best WR on the board in the first round, and the best available DB in the second, and if the guy they want isn't there, a possible trade-down with someone looking to trade up for one of the OT's left on the board or one of the DE's.
