user posted image rA rancher in Elmendorf, southeast of San Antonio, found a strange creature attacking his livestock, and local animal experts say identifying it is a tough call. Devin Macanally says he has lived on his ranch for 15 years and has never seen anything like it. "It was eating mulberrys under a tree," he said. It is a strange dog-looking creature with a blue color that he says began a killing spree. Devin first knew something was up when his chickens started disappearing. At one point, 35 were gone in just one day. Macanally finally shot and killed the creature, and he was blown away at what he saw. "First thing that came to my mind, is surely everybody's gonna think this is a chupacabra," he laughed. "But it's so odd because it has no hair." At the nearby Deleon's Grocery and Market, customers come in to check out pictures of it. One woman says it is exactly how her grandmother described the dreaded chupacabra.

People at the San Antonio Zoo say they have not seen anything like it. Terry DeRosa with the zoo says at a feather-light 20 pounds, he thinks it might be a wild mexican dog. "It may be one of the hairless dogs that perhaps you see in Mexico," he said. Devin says he would like to know for sure. He says he is hoping someone can help identify it, possibly by DNA.

Wow, cool story.

I wonder why news sites always put such small picture up on their site though. I would like to be able to see a full size picture of the critter, but all I can see is a little 1/2 inch photo that kind of looks like a hairless dog...hyena mix...thingy...

The fact that the zoo didn't know what it was was interesting; I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

I find that too, whenever there's a story like this the news site reporting on it seems to have a tendancy to only include a tiny picture or in this case a series of tiny pictures - it's very difficult to make anything out in the images provided.

Not the same thing as the pic of a "chupa"

The eyes are wrong.. the feet of the chupa are really odd

I can't see a tail on the "chupacabra" so I guess it's either lost it's tail, has a very short tail (so not a Mexican hairless dog) or never had a tail in the first place, which would be very strange.
Dancing_Dumplings
maybe it was a baby mexican dog! that hadnt grown its tail yet...but then again if it was a mexican dog...then it would have to be smaller...
Asterix
I noticed in the photos (which of course are not very clear) that the animal has legs obviously meant for running. I think they're quite similar to legs found in animals like gazelles or deers, in any case of animals that are non-carnivorous and therefore...run for their lives. Isn't chupacabra supposed to be carnivorous?

Interesting article and image.... It is very annoying that only small images are provided. However HunterKiller's enlargment of it is useful. It doesn't look like a scaley spikey creature to me (like what most Chupas are said to resemble).

actually the other pictures show a tail.. very similar to the dog listed above..

see tongue.gif

Edit..

I jumped into google, and got a pic of a mexican hairless..

I cut it's size, and reopened it.. making the same corrections I did in the first image..

It could very well be one of these dogs..

There has been an AWFUL lot of strange animal/dog sightings as of late. It's almost becoming a fad..
hunterkiller2001
see my edited post burnside..

I think it's a dog..

Edit: And to further push the point, I took the picture of the Mexican hairless I used above, and resized/rotated it over the "chupa" picture..

The white outline is where the dog is..

Looks like a dog to me. It's always a dog.

I think the problem occurs when people start breeding all sorts of dogs together and create new and weird looking dogs, and people freak out.

Interesting story I saw it on the main page when I logged on this morning, interesting to know if it's our good ol friend Mr. Chuppy.

Hi guys,

I 'm new to the board, but would like to inform you that it is either a small coyote or a fox with mange; a skin condition in animals that makes the hair or fur fall off due to excessive chewing and rubbing by the animal. Makes them look real nasty.

It's NOT a Chupacabra.

Welcome to the forum Wooddevil. thumbsup.gif And i completely agree. Although the evidence for Mexican doggie is strong.
snuffypuffer
Soooo, based on the evidence, a chupacabra is just another term for crazy hairless dog, or mummified cat, or unidentifiable roadkill. It's a blanket term, matter of fact.
SilverCougar
I say we wait for the experts to accually find out what it is.

How cool, I'm from San Antonio and haven't heard anything about this, then again, I haven't seen the news today. It's el chupanibre!

At first glance it looked like a little long-snouted Chihuahua to me. Still kinda looks like it- But yes, breeding different type of dogs to make new ones does seem to be turning into a fad. It seems to me that someone let two of their little dogs get it on and this is the outcome. As for my opinion, it looks to docile and cute to be a killer chupacabra.
