You know it's been a bit since I posted, and I want to thank you for making my first stop back so nice. This site NEEDS more positive posts such as this.
People of faith should stick together in affirming the life giving message of the gospel to a world that sorely needs it; in the world in general and this site in particular.
Well wishes and prayers to all

Thank you for that post, me again! It really couldn't have come at a better time for me. I had an incredible, unexplainable event happen to me right after I poured my heart out in a prayer for help. I am the first to admit that although I've always believed in God, I've been a terrible slacker in prayer. After such a long time away, I felt I was being told: "I am always here, you just need to ask". And yes, Todd, this sight in particular seems so sad to me sometimes....so many lost souls.

Of course you do ... And why wouldn't you ....
But only because it is something you don't agree with.....AND if you will note it "Clearly" states... "For the Christians on this forum".......
What about the little thread for the diest... was "constructed" pretty much the same way.... did you not find that one "trite and childish"??
Whatever

Whaddya mean "constructed" pretty much the same way - it was a direct copy!! Don't you folks recognize being spoofed??? Yes I thought my posting was trite and childish, it was meant to be, just like Maya Angelou's little piece of sugar.

Who are you, Yoda?

If the poem touched you and made you feel good, then good for you! I think because I'm a poet myself I can respect this poem and the emotions it evokes in some readers. I'm not Christian (not Deist, either), but I like the fact that the poem affected all of you in a positive way. Maya wrote it from her heart, and I admire her for that, I don't care what she believes.
A poem is the deepest expression of emotion from a person. You can't make fun of that. I think what you did was distasteful, beowulf.

Ah yes, the final spoof – Death. Where we all learn that how we lived is what mattered, not adherence to a moldy mythology or avowal of faith to a probably non-existent diety. We will all probably be surprised that day, especially the followers of the revealed organized religions!

My question is why are these deists' looking at a christian post and then replying to it. My wish is that one day we will ALL be tolerant and respectful of each others individualities. This was exactly the reason for my post to show my non-judgementalness and I shouldn't have titled it to Christians but I did this because I feel that alot of you are misunderstood. If you go through life thinking you are right all the time, you'll never know wrong. I never claim to be right in anything because I don't have to be right for myself, I only have to know my own truth.
Judge not and be not judged!!!

I feel I've got to comment on this thread, and the poem that started it.
I do not like Maya Angelou's poetry and don't think she's anywhere near being a good poet. Her language choices are poor, and many of her poems are very "sing-song".
However -- I still have to admire the sentiment encased in the poem. I'm no fan of those who feel that only Christians know or have the "right" way to God, but IMHO this poem doesn't put forth that idea. Maya Angelou is stating what being a Christian is, to
her, but is not putting down any other faith. She is simply exalting God, as she conceives God to be.
I suppose my point is ultimately that even bad poetry (which I think this is) can express a valuable thought (which I think this does).
So that's my two cents then.

My question is why was religious material posted on a website called "Unexplained Mysteries"? After all the various revealed organized religions claim to have all of the answers. Such propaganda and "warm fuzzies" are better posted on websites devoted to that particular religion (Christianity isn't the only religion that I am referring to, they just happen to be the most populous in the country for now). If I offend you, sorry but don't expect me to tiptoe around, after all - members of the various religions have never tiptoed around me.

You may as well ask why there's an "Off Topic Forum" in the first place... maybe for things such as this.
Regardless, even though I'm not a deist, nor do I subscribe to organized religion, I can appreciate why people have the beliefs they have. We all need something to believe in so as to bring some purpose or reason to the things that happen.
I felt that Me_Again's poem expressed how she felt about what it meant to be a Christian. I applaud her for it, and enjoyed the poem from the insight it provided into the PERSON that wrote it.

I am me and you are you, and togetherness (christians, jewish, hindu, buddist, etc.) is what we need. I'm not holier than thou, and I like to communicate with others who share the same message. You know, the other day I was thinking about why I believe, and I got to this: why are we the only animals that have rationality? Because when you show a dog a steak, a lettuce or an ice-cream he will definitely eat the steak, but we can choose anyone of those. I know it's a silly example, but you know where I'm going. Besides, here goes another thing: we know that bees have certain functions (one goes picking up the pollen, and so on). The thing is, if they don't have rationality and they still perform certain operations in such a perfect way, somebody had to put them the instruction to do it. A superior intelligence, which we call God.

Sorry luv, it has nothing to do with rationality....it's because a dog is a carnivore (that is a meat eater) and we are omnivores (can and will eat almost anything). That was a very very bad example.....try again (I did understand what you were getting at). Incidentally, science is pointing out more and more the rationality and intellect of certain birds and mammals. How do we know that they don't have religions and beliefs in an afterlife?

Well, sorry for the awful example (already said it was going to be bad

), but that's the point where I'm getting to: we can choose to do good and bad.
