The Raven
Hello, I don't post much in the Cryptozoology section but this topic definatly needs to be posted because I am searching for answers.

First of all, I don't know if anyone here has read the book "Strangely Enough", an old book from about 1959 dealing with paranormal encounters, it has many good tales in it. (All stories gathered from the people or their families). One story is about a woman in the midwest and a whistling. I can remember most of the story but I can't seem to find the book. Heres what I remember: The woman was home alone with her dog, and went to bed. About halfway through the night she woke up to her dog barking and a horrid whistling coming from her front porch, where the dog was barking. The whistling continued (painfully loud and high pitched) and soon she grabbed her pistol. Before she dared to go the porch, her dog stopped barking and started grunting and whimpering, then went dead silent. The whistling left the house quickly and faded off into the field. The terrified lady went back to sleep. In the morning she cautiously went to the porch, noticing her dog was not by her side. She found the dogs blood smothering and smeared all over the walls and no sign of the dog except for some fur (If I remember correctly) as if something very strong had come into the house and mutilated the dog while making a horrid unnatural whistling.

This part is the odd part.

I've never heard an account like this ever again until today. Im not going to post any personal information, but a friend told me about an experience after I asked him about if he had seen a ghost before. He used to live farther in the country by a huge field. Strange things had been going on in the barn and he had even been thrown against the wall by an unseen force. Later on he had been attacked while out in the field when it was turning to night. He had nothing but a hunting knife with him but was trained with a sword and fighting. He got thrown to the ground by some beast that was whistling and kept stabbing blindly as he closed his eyes. He got away and ran inside his house, with some cuts and he was covered in some sort of black and bile liquid. Later on he had to keep himself locked in the basement at night when he sleeped in fear of being attacked again but walked outside into the field every night to see if it was there, and it was. It kept whistling (like the one in the first story) and his friend and him got a glimpse of its body. It seemed to have many thorny spikes coming out of its muscular back and had unusual reddish skin with large muscles. He did not see the rest of the body but his friend said he it 'billions of teeth' (He was watching from the barn) It whistled as it ran off at amazing speed on all 4's and the whistle faded off quickly. He did that for nights carrying his sword and it whistled more. His parents didnt see it and saw what they thought was 'a bear being chased'. They moved and he only saw it once in the town alley, whistling painfully loud and high, doing some sort of song, then it left and its been gone ever since.

Has anyone heard of a whistling menace that is unnaturally strong and fast? I really want to find out as much as I can about this menace, please post feedback.
The Raven
Sorry for not posting more information on how he said what he saw looked like:

~ Not much larger than a normal human
~ Extremely muscular
~ A totally unnatural amount of teeth
~ Capable of whistling like a human
~ Can run extremely fast
~ Runs on all 4's but looks human like
~ Has reddish skin
~ Hunches over when it stands
skullgirl
holy s**t that is CREEPY...im not going to sleep tonight. MOMMIE! *runs off*

I will never whistle again *shivers* if this is just a story congradulations, you have me scared and on the edge of my seat. If its not, i think you should all lock ourselfs away in a nuclear bunker. Preferably with some cozy. wink2.gif

I have read that story, its in one of those paperback books about paranormal activities, (short stories). But that is really creepy! I hope it is not anywhere near me
Oni Kariudo
From the description with the teeth and the spikes from its back, it kind of sounds like some chupacabra reports
AnimangaBloodThorn
Stupid old woman! Why didn't she go get the dog? crying.gif

Eh, anyway, I've never heard of this. Sounds pretty creepy. I hope I never have an encounter with something like that!
(But if I do, rest assured that I will let my dog in. disgust.gif ...Armed with a rocket launcher or something, of course. tongue.gif )

...I'll have to check this book out...

Um, another question. The dog was on the porch when he was killed, right? I'm assuming that the door was shut. So, how could the dog be by her side when she walked out there? (Referring to the quote 'noticing her dog was not by her side.') Or am I missing something?
Shakezulah
wow...thats a really creepy story. ill definatly have to look for info on that. if i find anything good, ill be sure to post it.
Cobalt Demon
Could have been a badly deformed human. I have heard of few case where some SICKO kidnap a child and deform them and set them loose or show them for moneys.

However I am GLAD I am deaf! I dont have to worry about hearring the whistle!
DarkAnubis
like someone said earlier, describtion makes it sound like a chupacabra...but i haven't really heard of it...could u by any chance give the region where your friend lived so perhaps i can look into it?
cor_raven
it sounds familliar but i can't place this where did thishappen again an be fairly specefic

sad.gif Wow. Sometimes I am so ashamed to be human. What a twisted species we are! Good thing there's still enough of us good people so there's still hope for humanity yet!

About the story now. I was thinking Chupacabra too b/c of the teeth and the spikes. But then it could just be a whole different unidentified species altogether.
or hopefully it's not what Cobalt Demon mentioned sad.gif I think I'd much rather have Chupacabras then innocent children being turned into mutants. What a horrifying thought!

One of my opinions on alot of these unknown creatures that sound 'impossible' is that they are escaped 'experiments' from genetic engineering labs.
All the wierd crap they do to animals (and probably humans) in secret labratories. I am sure that there have been PLENTY of experiments where different creatures parts were successfully joined together.

We know that aborted fetuses are sent to labs for stem cel research... but maybe some of those fetuses are kept alive in labs instead and allowed to grow to be mixed with other animal parts.
It sounds sick, but I wouldn't doubt that it goes on. I don't understand what the purpose of experiments like this would be. But who knows what the scientists have going on in their heads.....
tongue.gif though i'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love if they successfully attached workable wings to a horse.......... or human for that matter haha!

Hmmm...the black bile made me think of the dilophosaurus from Jurassic Park. cat.gif

Thanks for your feedback everyone, I hope people will keep posting. This was not a story I just "made up". The friend I am talking about lives in Canada.
Cradle of Fish
When you look at it, it doesnt really sound like a Chupacabra, cos they didnt show up in Canada, and everything has been called a chupacabra at one stage or another.

It sounds like just some strange beast that lurks in the endless forests of Canada.

Amazon.com has the Strangely Enough book selling in the used section. There are quite a few for under $1.

Two reviewers mention the Whistle story as one of their favorites.
Strangely Enough book

MisterBlueSkies
Huh-- If it's in Canada, what about the possibility of it being a Wendigo/Windigo?

I mean, if you know the original Native legend, a Wendigo is a person who transformed into a monster after resorting to cannibalism. That would explain why it attacked the dog in the story, and your friend. It's voice also carries on the wind, so it would also explain the whistling noise.

Or it could just be me. whistling2.gif

Wow, cool, well kinda, sorry, i don't mean that is cool your deaf, its just I've never met anyone who is before. Do you know sign language then? Did you lose your hearing, or where you born that way, whoa, way off topic, gotta bring myself back to the real world now, anyways, i think it would be more helpful to hear the whistle, it would serve as a warning that the creature is near.

Wendigos also usually show up in the dead of winter, during cold periods and snow storms.

That and a Wendigo looks like an unearthly mix of human, deer, and wolf.

But you never know... A "white man" (sorry..heh) wendigo might possibly look like some "demon".
VampChilde18
Do you have any more info on these wendigos things? I can't seem to find anything reliable on google.
SilverCougar
Ok, simplified.

A wendigo is a horrible creature in Native American myth. I've talked to many who say that to talk about them is bad juujuu. Basicaly, they're caused from the result of cannibalizm. Visious, cold, brutal. Some say it's like a Native American werewolf, others say it's a monsterous blizzard, and the one that's most seen, is part deer, part wolf, and part human.

And, here's a goodish site. Wendigo

Got it by typing "Myth" + "Wendigo" just typing Wendigo would just get you things about the comic and WhiteWolf games... =\
VampChilde18
Thanks that really helps grin2.gif

But wouldn't that be worse for you if you couldn't hear the whistling? You wouldn't know if it was there. Anyway that sounds pretty likely too, that it was a deformed human. That's pretty bad though...

(by the way, this is skullgirl's sister, not her lol)
Cobalt Demon
Well if I cant hear the whistle then I wont be woken up in middle night and have to deal with creature. Many animals will just stay steady and hide if they sense predator come close and it help many of them to survive. So if I cant hear the whistle and I didnt get up and give myself away in its sight I will be pretty much safer. However if it already target me and it is after me (sure like this will ever happen to me esp in Las Vegas where Wal Mart with security 24/7 is right across street from me!) then it have both advantage and disadvantage, I will be more prepare for it and think more clearly but bad thing is I will not know when it is close. So I perfer to just sleep through it and have no idea it was around and maybe never see it as long as I live (I have NEVER saw a scorpion here in 10 years I lived in Las Vegas but many live here that is a example).
The Raven
Thanks for all your input. I did indeed get that story with the dog out of Strangely Enough...if only I could find the book! Anyways, he was happy with what we found out, and if anyone else has info, PLEASE POST IT, I'm still curious.
cyberbud2000
Interesting. Very Interesting. Awesome story, probly a chapacubara if you ask me.
Agent-L
would you say that the Wendigo is like those things from the film wrong turn?

and i just get the feeling it was something like that in the story exept the spikes on the back. dontgetit.gif
The Raven
I've never seen Wrong Turn but I assure you the account of the creature was not made up. I want to find out what this thing is so badly, I guess the easiest way to describe it is a disgusting whistling demon, and it might have to be left at that if no one has ever heard of this before. disgust.gif
Agent-L
im not saying you made it up, sorry if it sounded that way i just read someone mention Wendigo and it sounded like the things from the film which i wouldnt say is what your friend saw.

i would of just crapped myself if i was attacked by anything never mind a human sized demon with lots of teeth and that crying.gif

i live in the midwest near a small farming community. i have never heard this story before and cant tell you what that was. but i will tell you this, some peoples imaginations get the best of them. there are lots of "wild pigs" in the state where i live. they can get very very large. in fact the largest one on record rings in at an amazing 700+ pounds. that may not be taller but is definitly larger than any human you know. fact number two, pigs are very mean animals when hungry, they will attack, and bite humans, in fact (and the mob has known this for years) if a pig happens across a dead human body, they will eat it. fact number three they are a pinkish to reddish color. fact number four, a pig squeals, even whistles, when threatned, no im not talking whistling dixie, im talking "do you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world?" EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE kind of a noise. round these parts they calls that a "stupifier" meaning that it gets so loud, so piercing that you literally become confused and your concentration breaks.
and now to add a personal touch:
i used to detassle corn, one year a "wild pig" (called such because the farmer allows them to roam wild in the corn field to eat) attacked and urinated on a fellow detassler, he had to be taken to the hospital, stitched and bathed. granted the pig wasnt very big, only about 200 pounds, but he said it sucked. i believe him.
i just wanted to throw all this out there, i just thought it was interesting that some of the details of the story (not necessarily the animal, i grant you) sound a little familiar to a real animal.

That could be possible, but his parents only saw a bear. It wasn't the most annoying sound in the world type of sound (by how he said), it was a whistle, as if coming just from a humanoid mouth... huh.gif
grc
Interesting in one word.

In some cases the chupacabra is known to whistle. It's said to be a sound like a dog

whistle but much more powerful. The sound can paralyse you for a moment, it

produces a sensation of desorientation and then it atacks. From the description looks

like chupacabra to me. There is something that i don't understand in the story from the

book. HOW THE HELL CAN YOU GO BACK TO SLEEP ALONE AFTER SOMETHING

DEVOURED YOUR DOG???????

mmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm. thats all i got to say about that jenny. if this were to happen the trick is to keep your eyes open and look directly at your attacker.

i feel ya dawg. im only throwing out a (somewhat far fetched) but always rational grounded answer to a question, thats just me. just so were on the same page though, a whistling sound does not have to be from a humanoid mouth, "whistling" is caused by air moving through a small space at a high velocity.
Shrieker_Fan
Wow I never heard of a story like that before. The fact of a experetmental human or animal sounds likely. Boy I sure don't want to run into one of those. If the south park version of Steve Erien was here he'd say...(In an Austrian voice) "Oii I'll jamb my thumb up his butt hole and really piss him off.
Mike_Angel
It sounds alot like the monster in DarkAnubis' sig!
Monkyburd
Monsterous humanoid labratory experiment? Children deformed into physiological disasters? blink.gif

laugh.gif What a bunch of crap! Experiments that drastic are quite impossible, even for scientists in the next couple of decades! And deformed children isn't any better of an idea. I can't believe how many people believe those theories!! laugh.gif

It's just a injured bear or cougar that looks and sounds scarier then it is.

Very scary story however... Ooooooh... thumbsup.gif
Cobalt Demon
It isnt impossible. Just try slice a bit pieces of your skin off and replace it with fresh animal fur of similar size and let it fuse, install few plastic or horns or whatever by skin graft, tattoo, do their hair in certain way such as leave it matted badly, cramp them into small space and feed them certain foods so they are badly deformed, etc... then add a costume that they cant take off without help or whatever then let them loose.

How do you know they are impossible? blink.gif If someone was going to do this to a child, for one, they probably wouldn't be telling many people. They could be very advanced in science and technology and you'd never know, because they wouldn't tell anyone. Far fetched? Maybe. Impossible? No. Atleast I don't think so, but to everyone his own. thumbsup.gif

sounds like a jersey devil story i remember, but the demont hing sounds a lot like a chupacabra
grc
A deformed child that kills animals and sucks blood ? I think that's a little too SF for me(not that it couldnt be possible but i'm 99% sure that is not the case here). And BTW only the thought that someone could do such things to another human
and above all to an innocent child is too scary. I'd rather have to hunt an army of 10.000 chupacabras with a toothbrush.
Jesus_Freak
the only animal that i can think of making a whistling noise besides birds is the cougar... and they're kinda redish... i dunno
