A gunman who apparently believed his neighbors were demons shot to death a 67-year-old man and critically injured his son before surrendering, police said. The man was arrested Monday evening after a three-hour standoff at a North Hollywood home.

Hector Bisente was shot several times in the torso and was pronounced dead at a hospital, Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman David Campbell said Tuesday. George Bisente, believed to be in his 40s, was listed in critical to serious condition, Adelaida De La Cerda, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, said Tuesday.

Its obvious to me that the guy in the original story was insane. Sad unfortunate family who took the brunt of it.

Has anyone ever seen the X-Files where a guy thinks he is going crazy because he thinks a co-worker is a demon/alien(I don't recal which)? In the end you find out that the crazy guy is sane, but for whatever reason he was the only person that was able to realize the truth about his coworker.

I always think about that episode when I hear about stories like this...

I have no doubt that the guy was a wackjob, but the science fiction reader in me likes to give thought to other possibilities
