It was on the news last night but i can's seem to find anything on the web. A strange fish was caught in a lake in washington, about two feet long with sharp teeth and a red underbelly. It looked a lot like a parana(I know i spelled that wrong) But what would a Parana be doing in a lake in washington, especially one that big. Any theories?

Given the large size (approx. 2 ft) and the pirahna like teeth, I would say the it was most likely a Red Bellied Pacu. They look similar to the pirahna but grow much larger.

Could be a species of Paku.They are vegetarian fish,that are related to pirahnas.

I agree, it was most likely a Pirhanna. People do keep them as illegal pets.

The size would suggest otherwise. Pirrahnas do not grow to 2 feet long. 1 foot maybe.

And aren't piranahs found in tropical waters (ex. South America)? I would think Washington would be far too cold for them.

You would be surprised how big they get over the years.Have you ever been to the Vancouver aquarium?Cause they have huge pirahnas there.

Always possible, remember the coelacanth, thought extinct and rediscovered in 1928.

Well I think it would probably be a red bellied pacu, they are related but they are strictly herbivores while the pirahnas are carnivores. (obviously

)
Edit: Picture of a red bellied pacu.

Indeed XD And I also would think that a Pacu could live in colder waters than a pirahna

Yes it could,since they are more commonly found in colder water,and can live in our tanks.
