What would be the best way to copy symbols onto paper and scan them into a computer? The symbols are engraved, and when I've tried before you can see them decently on paper, but when I scan the quality goes out the window.
I want to know because I have something that I want looked at and to see if it means anything. I also have a coin with strange symbols on it and I think I am just going to make a copy of that by hand.
After I get pics of them on the web, and they have been looked at by a few, then I will post the story. I don't want the story to influence what people see in them.

I saw somewhere someone using thin, almost tracing paper thin, paper and cover it over the one of the surfaces of the object that you wish to copy. Then if I remember the person used a crayon on its side and did swipes around the engraving, thus making the indented part not show up in crayon. Use the crayon like a paint roller, then trace deeply around the engraving after with another color. Not sure, but that might work better with the scanner.

Hmm... tried that already. I'm thinking of trying to put something a different color to fill in the indentations, then take a pic of it or something. But I don't want to mess it up
