I've been to Poland.
It wasn't cold when I went in July.
We went to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp for a school trip on the Nazis.
We also went to another place, but I can't remember the name of that, we only went there cos it was a nicer hotel for the night

Weather? Yep - in this summer there was only 13 warm days. In the rest of the year - windy, sunny, but not hot. Winter is deadly.
Auschwitz - yes, it's a one of the most important things in Poland. Eh...

They actually make us more money than they cost us in terms of tourists. I personally don't like them much, but I spose as long as they keep raking in the cash for us then I can stand them.
Plus they have a lot of fans.

Yeah, I think they suck, but then again it's not like they have any real power so they don't really bother me on a day to day basis.
You gotta feel a bit sorry for em though in a way cos it's not like they have a choice over what job they have like if your Wills or something, that's gotta suck, and it's not like they do anything interesting, just opening hospitals and stuff lol.
I'd rather not be a royal if that's what you have to do all day lol....

Hi Gajin.
I'm from Israel...
Been to Poland last year and visited Aushwitz, Majdanek, Treblinka (what left of it anyway), and the mass shooting area.
I wanted to ask you a question about a sensitive subject between my people (Jews) and youre people (Poles).
I know that 3.5 million non-Jewish Poles were murdered in concentration camps, that Poland had the highest number of rightious among nations, even though Poland was the only place under German occupation where helping Jews was a capital crime (that is - a Pole who helped a Jew would have been exceuted).
Also, I know that many people who helped Jews were anti-Semites, but didn't agreed with the crimes of the Nazis.
As you might also know - Jews were the first to rebel against the Nazis, and they were helped to some degree by non-Jewish partisan groups.
But still, about 5 million Jews were killed in Poland (3 million of them Polish citizens, the others Jews shiped from other locations like N. Africa, Balkan, western Europe etc.).
We were 10% of the population before the Holocaust. We helped Polish nationalists during the 19th century to rebel against Russia, Prussia and Austro-Hungary, we had good relations before the 20th century.
But during the 20th century, Poles killed Jews before the Holocaust and after the Holocaust, and during the Holocaust (there were some Polish partisan groups who executed camps' survivors in the forests when they escaped).
Anyhow - I wanted to know how can it be, when Poland lost 20% of it's citizens and population (6.5 million Polish citizens) to Nazi genocide, second only to my people, that there is a pretty large Polish Neo-Nazism.
I mean - how can a society who suffered so much under Nazism, can even accept such a phenomanon?
Also I would like to know what most of the Poles think about Jews today... I know that most of what we are told about eachother's people isn't true and filled with prejudice (yes, I am aware that there is such a thing as anti-Polishism among some Jews, though one can summarize it as the belief that all Poles are anti-Semites.), so this is why I would like to open a dialogue about the subject.
Montclair
Aug 24 2004, 08:56 PM
Poles are not anti -semites, they are anti -zionist in generall. And not only Poles but many Europeans are.
Why ? well ,after suffering in Jewish ghettos ,camps and so on in WW2, Jewish army is killing ,humiliating, and wounding Palestinians who are Semites just like Jews are.
Jewish army is commiting the sames acts on Palestinians as Nazis have done on Jews in WW2, simply and clearly saying Jews are commiting War Crimes .
I even give Poles credit for being ant-zionist ,they sufferd so much during WW2 ,they might be more sensitives to the attrocities commited in M.East.
Gajin
Aug 24 2004, 09:41 PM
Oh men, hard subject.
For law, EVERY symptom of antisemicism is BANNED in Poland (lawly). But in real... Eh... There's something in it, tahat Poles doesn't like so much Jews. It's psychical and I don't understand it. The most of the Jews opponents is in very old people (but they are talking so stupid things, like Jews want to conquest the world etc.), some priests (but don't listen to them, one Jankowski [well-known Polish priest, very controversional person] can't be match for all priests) and very primitive young people, that in Poland are called "kibole" or "drechy". They are young, rich, and stupid. THE MOST OF THEM DOESN'T REMEMBER JEWS HISTORY, SO THEY'RE TALKING STUPID THINGS. DON'T LISTEN TO THEM. In Lodz, big Polsich city, when few decades ago were living many Jews, so many "kibol's" are writing antisemistic things - but they don't know why.
In one word - many Poles are antisemist, but they don't know why. But Erikl, I'm not an antisemist. And every syndroms of antisemicism in my round I'm neutralizing, at every costs. Ufff.... Poles had forget many Jews advantages. I was reading a Polsih book ("Talks with executioner") about Polish P.O.W. in locked in cell with Schultz and his assistant. The story is authentical, and many times Schultz was talking about Jews an Sloves as an tough enemy. And many times there was written about great Jews courage in fights with nazitroopers.
There isn'tneonascism in Poland. There was one called "NOP" {National Poland Revolt or something), but it was delegalized. For now, Poland is safe for Jews or any nation. Jews are in the most known as good people. But... There's an another hard subject, but I PM to Yu about this, ok Erikl?
Counting to ten:
1 - jeden
2 - dwa
3 - trzy
4 - cztery
5 - piec
6 - szesc
7 - siedem
8 - osiem
9 - dziewiec
10 - dziesiec
It's quite difficult at the start, because in counting are using Polish letters, difficult to learn for somebody from other country. For Poles Polish language is hard, too.

Hi Gajin,
I'm half Polish, my father came over here at the end of WW2. All his family ( non-Jewish Poles ) were killed over there, at least that is what we've been told. My father would never talk about what happened and he's now passed over. One day I would love to see Poland, what is the country like? Can you compare it to any better known countries eg. Swiss Alps etc. Is it expensive to live over there? What is the job situation like? Is there much poverty?

Poland is a country similar to Czech Republic or Hungary, but Italian's are calling Poland "north Italy". IUt's a sad country, where men's tragedy is on every step. Only big cities (Warsaw, Gdansk etc.) are making image of a modern. Most of the country is full of poor people without work. I live in the most criminal city in Poland, near Warsaw, and I can say it's a big piece of crap. Many young people are emigrating to Germay, UK, US, Izrael in looking for work, so it's sad. But tourists are calling poland "A beatiful place full of happy people". Hmm...
Food is in Poland very yummy. Most of the national dishes are based on meat and vegetables like "bigos". It doesn't have a name in English, it's a dish of hashed sausage, pork and beef stewed in sauerkraut and it's cool. There are many types of cutteletes, bread, soupes etc. In few words: for gourmand's Poland is very interesting place.
Anything else?
