I never thought I'd post this story, but it's something that has puzzled me for many years. I figured there's a good mix of people with different views and opinions on this forum, so here it goes.........................
When I was about 9 or 10 years old I was trying to fall asleep one night. It was probably after midnight, and I just couldn't sleep. So I turned over and was facing the middle of my bedroom and right there in the center of the room was a young man, kind of middle eastern looking, wearing loose fitting white clothing, stacking sacks of grain or something. The whole scene was there and transparent. I saw the sacks all stacked up probably about six feet high. I remember him looking over at me and acknowledging that I was watching him work. He smiled and kept lifting the sacks and stacking them. After about 30 seconds or so, I ran into my parents bedroom and told them what I saw. Of course they thought I was dreaming, so they told me to go back to bed but I wouldn't go back into my room. They let me sleep in their bed, and I remember hiding under the covers thinking that the man followed me. When I did look out from the covers, he was in their room, stacking the sacks again, looking over at me every now and then. I think I just kind of watched it like it was a movie.
It never happened again. I've always thought that this man was trying to communicate with me and show me something. I never thought he was a ghost, I thought he was alive somewhere and was sending me a message. At 9 years old that was the impression I got and I still feel that way. If it was a dream or hallucination, how would a 9 year old even think this up. I didn't know what sacks of grain looked like. I didn't live near a farm or know anything about that sort of thing. It wasn't until I was older that I figured out what he was doing. Anyway, I'd appreciate your opinions about what you think this could have been.

I think it was one of your spirit guides. Children often see their guides, but they are passed off by parents as imaginary friends or dreams, which in some cases, i'll agree, they are just that. But in others they are the spirit guides. This man would have been trying to make you aware of his presence so that he could help you through your life (though you don't need to be aware for him to help you)
Its likely that if you decide to reawaken your dormant psychic/mediumistic abilities, you'll probably see this man again.
It wasn't his intention to frighten or harm you, he just wants to make you aware that he is there and help you.
You were so lucky to have seen this guide stood there in front of you. I have two nuns as guides, Agatha and Doris, and i only see them in my minds eye, i would love to have seen them solid like you.

It could have been either! My guess is that your mind was a bit over active for the time of night your refer to. Things like this happen all the time but you are the only one that matters as far as the explaination. What do you think it was?

Thank you for your replies.
Spirit,
I never even thought that this man could have been a spirit guide. I hope you're right. I would love to know that a spirit guide is looking out for me! He did seem "friendly" and was aware I was watching him. So I guess it is a possibility.
Seventh Son,
I do agree that a child's mind in the middle of the night could play tricks on them, however, this never happened to me before, or ever again. I was always afraid of the dark and I do remember staying up late looking at all the shadows in my room, trying not to sleep, but I never hallucinated. Also, why was this image transparent? If it was a hallucination, wouldn't it be solid? (I don't know much about hallucinating but I believe things look solid and real.) This is why I really think it WAS something paranormal. Whether it was a spirit guide, or ghost or someone astral projecting into my room, I don't know. Since it's been almost 30 years since it happened, and it's never happened again, leads me to believe it was something special and significant.

don't worry, everybody has one spirit guide that stays with them throughout their lives and many, many others that come and go depending on where you are at in your life and what kind of guidance you need. Your guides are there and looking out for you, you probably just aren't aware of them.
This is one of my belief, take what you want and accept it, if anything doesn't make sense to you or insults your intelligence, then discard it.

Amiss these answers, You had best ponder on a possible meaning to this. A middle eastern man dressed in white stacking bags of grain. Look at it as a metaphore... does it make any sense? I'll be glad to help you if needs be, but it would best be done by you yourself.

With no disrespect but I am amused. People automatically jump to the conclusions that this must be some type of 'paranormal' event when... When its more likely, plausible and logical that you were asleep and dreaming. Children fall asleep very quickly and as a child and having a fantastic imagination dreams are very real and vivid.

will it could be a spirit guid, but it could have been a realistic dream. I don't want to change the subject so all I'll say is that I've had dreams that I woke up in the middle of the night and it felt so real that I didn't know I was dreaming and when I would wake up I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or not and would fall back asleep repeating the same thing over and over for a few minutes.

Dear Beenhereb4: Welcome to the forum. I am not sure that I have any thoughts as to what you saw. Personally, I rather like what Spirit said in her post. I don't know if it is true or not. I am sure that Spirit has much more knowledge to this than I do. However, it is rather nice to believe that we are not alone here.
I would venture that if you did not feel fear from your experiance, that perhaps this figure could have been trying to send some kind of message.
If you don't mind me asking, how old are you now and what is your profession? Maybe you have become something that this figure signified?
Have you ever seen the figure since?
Good Luck. I believe that you may have come to the right place for answers. There are many here that seem to have a lot of information to such experiances.
I hope that you are sleeping well these days.
My best wishes to you.

You could try reading "meet and work with spirit guides" by Ted Andrews, it may help, also meditation might help.
This is all i know, as mine occured naturally, but i hope this helps

I really appreciate all of your opinions...........................
Draco,
If there is a metaphor to this, I'm clueless. I'd love to hear your ideas.
Lottie and Shrieker,
No, this was not a dream. I was not asleep, trust me. Also, this image appeared as if it was a movie being projected onto a screen in the middle of my room, but it was translucent. Nothing like any dream I've ever had. I even got up and walked past it to get to my parent's room. Yes, kids have great imaginations and I'm sure I've dreamt of some funky, bizarre things, but nothing as mundane and realistic as a man stacking grain.
Peacelover,
Thanks for the welcome.

To answer your questions, I'm in my 30's and I'm a designer. That was the only time I ever saw this image.
I do know that the house I grew up in was built on a cow pasture and I've had people suggest that this man was some type of worker on the farm long ago. I think he may have been hispanic or middle eastern. He had dark skin and medium length hair. At the time, I never met anyone like that nor did I even know what sacks of grain looked like or that people stacked them. That is why I know this could not be the dream of a nine year old.
