Why does everyone think that what is out of our realm of understanding must have some foundation from WITHIN our understanding. If our world was fake, why would you assume that we might be living in a "computer sim"?

You DO know that computers basically perform against the algorithms WE define, right?

Everyone seems to be under the assumption that things that we as humans have thought up, invented and use must be conventionally correct and the same way that it MUST be done somewhere else. Why is that? Have you know imagination?

Why must aliens visit us by flying? Can't there exist another mode of transport?

Why must an alternate world be a computer sim? Can't complex calculations be generated by something other than computers?

Why do we think that all advanced civilizations HAVE computers? What if they developed a way to use their ENTIRE brain?

Why do we think that because we have a central nervous system and a BRAIN that aliens must to? Could it be that their entire body acts as our brain does, transferring massive amounts of information in some form other than electric currents?

For that matter why do we think aliens have bodies? Could they not exist in a different plane of reality?

Sorry for the vent, I just feel that people don't explore possibilities outside of what we already know.

Anyone? Anyone?

Why do we have to reply to your questions when we might of already answered them in another reality? tongue.gif

I was going to say that We on this forum already do, that's why we are here tongue.gif

There is a common belief that in the far distant future, human beings will evolve beyond the need for a physical body, and instead exist purely as energy in another plane of existence.

I find it quite feasable, that a considerably more evolved alien race could exist in this way also - there is no reason to think that all Extra Terrestrial races in the universe are physical beings.

Certainly some food for thought there. blink.gif

True but this has always been a theory that "aliens" are not just physical bodies.
And things like STNG and Xfiles have also ran with those ideals. And yes why should we think they would remotely like us dry.gif

How To Live In A Simulation*
by Robin Hanson

If you might be living in a simulation then all else equal you should care less about others, live more for today, make your world look more likely to become rich, expect to and try more to participate in pivotal events, be more entertaining and praiseworthy, and keep the famous people around you happier and more interested in you.

____________________________

If our descendants prefer their simulations to be entertaining, all else equal, then you should want you and the events around you to be entertaining as well, all else equal. "All the world´s a stage, and the people merely players." Of course what is regarded as entertaining does vary somewhat across time and cultures, and our distant descendants´ tastes will likely vary from ours as well. So one should emphasize widely shared features of entertaining stories. Be funny, outrageous, violent, sexy, strange, pathetic, heroic, ... in a word "dramatic." Being a martyr might even be a good thing for you, if that makes your story so compelling that other descendants will also want to simulation you.

If our descendants sometimes play parts in their simulations, if they are more likely to play more famous people, and if they tend to end simulations when they are not enjoying themselves, then you should take care to keep famous people happy, or at least interested. And if they are more likely to keep in their simulation the people they find more interesting, then you should try to stay personally interesting to the famous people around you.

If our descendants like to play a moral God with their simulations, punishing and rewarding people in the simulation based on how they lived their lives, you might do well to live what they will consider praiseworthy lives. Of course you´ll have to figure out the common features of morality in descendants who are willing to play God. (It would seem inconsistent of them to greatly emphasize humility, for example. Inconsistency and morality are hardly strangers though.)

I don't think yak's comments really reflect the thoughts of our group, since we all think outside the box. I mean outside of everything biggrin.gif

Sorry, I didn't mean to assign this group to the masses in my rant. I have seen some intelligent discussions here. I guess I just thought this would be the place to release some pent up frustration on the seemingly small mindedness of the general population.

On the comment of certain shows "exploring" other-than-normal theories: I agree. There are certain shows, artist, writers, thinkers, etc. that "venture" out of bounds on their beliefs of what it might be. But I think that the general consensus is that aliens will be little gray men that arrive here in silver disks operated by advanced computers.

It just seems kinda silly to me.

Yak,
I think we all understand where you’re coming from. The ‘masses’ perception is most likely influenced by all the alleged witnesses’ descriptions. Then you get the media and Hollywood involved, and that kind of takes away from individual imaginations. It’s sort of ingrained already. At least that is my thought on it.

But I think the universe is full of so many anomalies and things that are beyond our comprehension. Maybe those alien descriptions are accurate for one type of alien race, but maybe there are millions of worlds inhabited by life. Maybe there are millions of parallel universes or millions of different dimensions etc etc. Who knows whether or not aliens have computers or whether they communicate through some other means, and when you think about it, who cares?

The masses don’t know, and they’re not claiming to know. Which, in my humble opinion, makes this a non-argument.

'Thinking outside of the box' is so hard for people to do. Energy is in everything, and energy and from what I remember it can only increase, or decrease-but never change.

I don't think corporeal form is all there is and we are only learning a fraction of the many possibilities that this world and solar system hold.

I believe in 'life after death', and those who believe in ghosts and have investigated them know that they can be detected on electromagnetic field meters, if there energy level is high enough.

If I stayed inside the box with my condition-where would be the hope?

'Thinking outside of the box' inspires faith and hope.

Besides I remember reading a scripture' all things are possible'.

We limit ourselves; yet there are many things which we still need to learn.

I remember a time when talking about UFO's was taboo. Now people are becoming more accepting of the possibility. It just means stretching the mind even further.

'Denial is easy. Acceptance is hard.'

The mad man says 'there is no box'. May be that's why they say he's a mad man.
