APPLE UNVEILS NEW MODEL

Apple is looking to shake up the computer world again after unveiling its latest design.

The new iMac integrates all disc drives and processors into a flat display which is less than two inches thick.

"Now we have the world's thinnest desktop computer," said Phil Schiller, head of worldwide product marketing, introducing the machine at the Apple Expo in Paris.

The machine, which will be available from September, will have either 17-inch or 20-inch displays, with prices starting at around £950.

The model will take over from the current iMac, which created a buzz of its own when launched a few years ago with its minimalist design featuring a thin display perched on a stainless steel pole above a white hemispherical base.

Sales of the iMac have slowed in recent quarters, though Apple's portable notebooks have been selling well.

Meanwhile, Apple said that it had sold five million songs in the 10 weeks since opening three three European iTunes Music Stores on the Internet in Germany, France and Britain for its iPod digital music player.

Macs actually suck, my first comp was a 5000 model. Make no mistake, Apple make good machines, but all the best software only appears on PCs.
