How would you rate your high school years? Hmmm considering that i have learned more from watching Tv in the 3 1/2 years since i graduated id say school was pretty much a waste of time.
Where you happy? hmmm lets see had to get up around 7 to listen to a bunch of people talk about the same things year after year...i didnt have many friends (i had like 5) so no i wasnt happy.
did you have fun? since i was at school thats a no.
would you change anything? yes...i would have dropped out as soon as possible...im lets see almost 22 i dont have a job and i cant afford college unless i go into dept with loans, oh guess what that would be the same thing id be doing if i hadnt gone at all.

I hated high school from grade 9 - 11. I was constantly picked on and made fun of because I was this little punk/grunge kid who listened to Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins, instead of all that dance crap the jocks listened to.
But gr. 12 was awesome, I had changed schools and it was a lot smaller, and funny thing was, the "losers" were the popular ones, and no one liked the jocks. I skipped class all the time to go play pool, didn't do my homework.

I don't miss it though. I wouldn't go back for anything in the world. It was the most awkward time of my life. I'm much happier with it all being over.

how do you rate your school or you high school years?I rate them as: 9th-kinda fun 10th-total blast 11th-crappiest year of my life and 12th- Haven't finished yet
where you happy ?I was happy for a short time in 10th grade, mainly because I acted like a complete lunatic. Now, I'm not really happy nor unhappy.
did you have fun ? For awhile yes.
would you change anything ?I'd actually change the year I had fun. Because maybe if I hadn't been hanging around with the people I did, I would have had a better junior year.
did you like your school?Hell no. This year it's even worse becuase they gave us I.D cards and we can't leave the commons area during "STAR time" and we have to get special permission to go to the library.

at my school, theres a whole lot of punk and grunge kids. They fit in quite nicely.
how do you rate your school or you high school years?
meh...its ok. My school's alright i guess. Most of the teachers are good, the food is edible (tho i usually bring my own...i know, im a dork) . There's not much to do tho... nothin i want to get involved in, and its in the middle of nowhere so theres no real hangouts. Its a really small school, which sucks cuz, tho you know everyone, theres not a lot of people i want to know lol. But ive got my friends, so its aight.
did you have fun ?
Freshmen year sucked. Sophomore year was da bomb... we had so much fun. Junior year was ok, and im just starting senior, but it seems like it will be pretty good.
would you change anything ?
uhh not that i could think of.... well, nothing that i could have changed. There's things i would want to tho...get rid of a few teachers ya know that kind of thing.

I won't be chatty int his one so please don't shut it down although you probably will.
What does everyone value most about their school days? Anyone have a fantastic time? Anyone have a terrible time?
I'm also wondering what differences there are between countries and cultures!
Let me know as soon as possible cos this will probably get shut down too

Oh god, today was the first day of school and in most of my classes i'm such a loner. Now i regret not trying to get into more AP classes because thats where most of my friends are, Oy! I forgot how non-advanced classes are... so slow, the teachers treat us like we're stupid or something, I really hope it gets better because this is my junior year in high school and i hope that this year will be better from the previous but i doubt it

Man, I had a blast in highschool. Not so much with the school part, and homework sucked, but I partied like crazy!!! I was friends with almost everybody in my school. The key to that is you can't limit yourself to just one clique, or group of people, you won't get anywhere. You have to open your mind and get to know everybody, even if you think that someone is "too different" from you that you won't get along....those are the ones that could turn out to be your closest friends.

As long as I can remember, I've hated school. Most of the kids are jerks, and the teachers practically all suck. In my opinion all children with no brain damage have a flame inside them. A metaphorical flame of course, but nonetheless, a flame. It is the flame of curiousity, ingenuity, and learning. School, however, treats us as if we are a bottle to be filled, instead of a flame that should be fed and tended. They fill the bottle until the flame snuffs out, and then we hate to learn. Without our flame, we are severely limited, and the schools destroy our flames. If schools should exist at all, it should be to provide resources and material for a students chosen course of learning. So what if I want to learn architecture at grade 6? Maybe I don't need to learn math? Maybe I won't be a failure if I don't know that Britain is pictured as an old lion, Canada as a young lion, Russia as a bear, Germany as a vulture and Spain as a donkey? Maybe I don't need to know the dates of certain wars and treaties. Or how to find the hypotenus of a triangle? The student should always be the leader of his/her learning experience.

That's why they have colleges so you can choose what to learn after you have learned a good bit of basic knowledge.
You need english and maths, those two are vital.

But meanwhile, you waste away your life as a child, doing stuff you don't want to do, for a future you don't want.
QUOTE

English would come naturally, as the flame makes you
want to read. I learned basic math (mostly on my own, from the book, as the "teachers" were too slow), but why do I need to know advanced math, if my chosen profession is a zoologist? Give the children the resources, and let them learn. Maybe for the first 2-3 years there could be curriculums, but after that, no defined structure until college/university.

Druidus, that's life. You take all those "useless" courses in high school so that you can learn a bit of everything, and even to help you discover what your strongpoints are.
Not everything is necessary for everyone, but you have to go through it. You're not wasting your time going to high school. At least by the time you're ready for college, you'll know what you're good at, and what you're not good at.

I've been homeschooled for 2 years now. During those two years, I've learned far more then I ever could have in school. Indeed, I've learned far more then all of my combined learnings from school, in only two years. I've taken tests, administered live, and not over the internet. Apparently, I am "highly gifted" with an IQ of 167 (with a possible deviation of 10, however, I don't believe IQ tests show true intelligence), and University level in all of my "subjects". I know "what I'm good at". Sorry if I appear hostile, but I have to explain this to many people.
Hawk7886
Sep 9 2004, 12:23 AM
I'm sorry if you suffered, but not everyone is as gifted as you. Many people learn by the 'herding' that is public school. Everyone learns at the same pace, whether they like it or not. Everybody eventually finds out what they want during High School, and when they graduate they go to College to pursue that goal.
At least there are options, like home schooling and private schools. Personally, I'm glad there's school for me. I'm at that point where I'm at the edge of the real world, right where I have to start making decisions without the help of mommy and daddy. Soon I'm going to start earning my living, paying bills, and that idea of failing at life is what scares me. During school, you can flunk, get a second chance. During real life, if you flunk, you're screwed.
I like school. I like getting free meals, free housing, a free roof over my head. I might have to deal with a few snot-nosed kids for four years, but at least I don't have to worry about living on the streets.
Druidus
Sep 9 2004, 02:18 AM
It doesn't matter whether or not you're gifted. I've seen many others thrive on what I am doing. Many. And not to be mean to them, but, some were as dumb as bricks, but they picked up when they were tried this. My body and mind develop naturally now. I wake up when I feel energized and I sleep when I feel tired. That's how it should be in your younger years! We can't all fit into the box they try to fit us in, and those that don't fit, or don't want to fit, will suffer. However, seeing as you like school, good for you!

I wish you the greatest luck!
