I know this story may sound a little backwoods to you cuz i live in West Virginia, but i swear im telling the truth or i would'nt be on this site. About 4 years ago, Im pretty sure it was the summer of '00 My friend/neighbor Matt and I decided to go Frog Gigging ( well for you all that do not know what this is. Well you have this stick or pole that has a small 3-4 prong sharp tip on it, kinda like a small pitchfork looking device and the goal is to get down in a creek or pond and spear frogs, and then you get to fry up their legs and eat them. I just spear them, i dont eat them, lol). Well anyways we were in the creek in a john boat spearing frogs when my friend Matt happend to look up to his house which is up on a hill and saw a small orange light that appeared to me emmiting from the top of his dad's dutch style storage building thats right beside his house. At first we didnt know what to think. Then Matt started to freak out thinking someone set the building on fire. We had a spotlight with us we were using to spot frogs and he shone the spotlight up to the roof of the building to see if some arsonist or something was up there. Then he lowered the spotlight after he didnt see anyone but right after he lowered his spotlight the light got brighter then it dimmed out of sight. Needless to say we dragged the boat up on shore as fast as we could and him with a boatpaddle in hand and me with a knife. we set out to find who the hell was up there. when we got up to his house (which was about 8-10 minutes after we left the boat , it's a pretty far walk.) There was nothing we could see on the storage building. Matt decided to go in his house to wake his mom to see if she saw or heard anything but she didnt. While Matt was inside I was in his driveway looking around, and as Matt walked out of the door to tell me the news. I happend to look up to the old oak tree in his yard and in the sky behind the tree i saw a glowing orange orb hovering! I excitedly looked at Matt and screamed "There's our Culprit"! I started running as fast as i could down the road that goes by his house to get a better view of the object and as i started to run the object started to move...slowly at first but right when the tree was out of the way of my view and i saw it clearly for a couple of seconds it sped up so fast it was out of site almost instantly. There's no way in hell that was manmade. It was COMPLETLY silent. and i dont think it was a stupid ball of gas either as it actually reacted with us shining a light on it and chasing it. The object in the sky was about 1/2 of the size of the moon and it was high up when i saw it cuz down below it off in the distance there's a hill with trees on it and also in that area we have a couple of those big tall electrical power lines so it had to be at least a couple hundred feet in the air. Ive looked at several websites trying to find some info on it and i know this is where its gonna sound even more wierd and fake but i swear on the holy bible im telling the truth. (it's at the bottom of the page) Apparently this guy read the Mothman Prophosies and the guy told the woman to turn off her headlights and the object started to move. When i saw this story the other day looking up stuff on what i saw I freaked. I've never really belived in the mothman. I live about 30 miles from Point Pleasant. Ive never read the book myself but i saw the movie, which was ok. but im wondering what is the full story behind the orange orb? all i know is its connected with the Mothman somehow. Any information would be greatly appreciated. If I knew a little more about this maybe i can catch him and swat him with my fly swatter, lol. thanks

Apparently when we saw this object on the storage building i think it was not on the building itself but a little above and behind it in the sky. from the angle we saw it. it appeared as if it was on the building.

Hi. This is terrific I am going to the Mothman Festival this month in Pt. Pleasant. I will report back what happens...if anything.

Many strange things have happened there...strange lights, a UFO flap, ghosts, curses_ Mothman and the Silver Bridge disaster. I don't know what to tell you about your experience, but I am glad you posted this.

thats a pretty cool experience..it always seems to turn out, what you don't know you saw(a.k.a. if you think it was something and your not sure..) makes the best storys...

A couple of years before the mothman movie came out,i had described to my kids/hubby what i had seen out of the family room window...never thought much about it and then went and saw the movie when it came out.Then i kinda freaked because the mothman was what i had described and my son had been drawing pix like in the movie.

thanks for your responses guys! I've thought about it being ball lightning but the sky was absolutly clear that night and there were no storms in the area. Plus the fact that the thing reacted to us like it had some intelligence kinda makes me think it was something that could think for itself. Oh and Babs do you live in WV? I had no clue they held a "Mothman Festival" in Pt. Pleasant! lol. i dont get out much apparently.

No, I'm in Ohio. I hear that at the festival everyone sits around and talks about the Mothman and the spooky things that have happened in Pt. Pleasant. (Witnesss accounts). The festival is Sept. 18 and 19th.

....supposed to be a good crowd. There is also a haunted hotel in the town called the Lowe Hotel. It's already booked solid_ a month ago. There will be hay ride tours, at night, that ride into the Mothman sightings area. Sounds like fun.

Oh ive been to Pt. Pleasent. In the DAYTIME that is. Its actually a pretty darn small town. not much to do really, but the park is a pretty nice place to visit. Never been there at night but i wouldnt be scared Babs. you should be ok and yeah Tess I would love to hear your incident. Im kinda jealous actually that you got to see him in the flesh.

I will check it out and tell you what I see and hear. I think it is going to be scary. and very interesting. There are a lot of historical things to see and they say the land or territory is haunted and cursed. Strange paranormal things seem to happen there....I can't wait to go.

I probably won't have time to go but let me know if it was any good or not babs. and Q-LA if anybody there has bloodshot eyes it's probably cuz their doped up not cuz their mothman lol.

Well, I'm back. It was fun and I have some books on Mothman and UFO's. It seems this place is like a window for the paranormal....UFO's, Mothman, bigfoot, ghosts and hauntings, a little bit of everything.

I got pictures...infrared, film and digital...cam-corder. I am going through some of these pictures now and there are orbs!...Orbs in motion and something funny showed up on one picture in front of the burial grounds for Chief Cornstock. He put a curse on the area many moons ago and some think Mothman is connected to him. Anyhow...I am going to check into this picture with the camera shop to see if they can do it over to see what comes out.

When I get everything together I will post the pictures. Spooky Oh, and the hayride into the Mothman area was terrific! I think there were about 400 people.

An old railroad car that seems to have a big orb above it. I took this with my 35mn film camera. We were in the TNT area where Mothman is supposed to have lived. It is the fairgrounds now. This is taken right before our hayride into the unknown.

There are many orbs in my pictures, some are in motion. I will get the infrared and digital film together and post them as soon as I can.

I, absolutely, don't know what that is...to the left of the tractor that is pulling our haywagon. There was nothing there in the road.

I don't know, fluffy, the pictures are in the black of night. Some of my pictures didn't come out at all or were too light to see, the gal at the camera shop said, but most are normal. It looks pretty grainy there. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks Fluffy. I fixed it. There are a lot of paranormal things going on in Pt. Pleasant. A recent sighting was a large bird, but no one got pictures. There is the haunted Lowe hotel_3 rooms are haunted the owner said.

There haven't been any recent sightings except for some big birds. If I encountered anything paranormal I said I'd post it. So far...orbs, that's all that's come out of my trip. I still haven't gotten to all my pictures yet. Here's a replica of Mothman.

Wild_Woman I didn't say i ate them,lol. how's eating frogs different than eating chicken, beef, tuna or caviar or other meats anyhow? At least i don't think of rats as a delacasy like they do in some foreign countries. Anybody who could eat a rat is more backwater than i could ever be. u know native indians have stories a bout the mothman ther in wv and out west, i for one have never seen it but i think if i would (going off of peoples reports) i would deffently rember what i saw, black image, red eyes, bunrt marks where the thing as been, some say its and angel of death warning of impending doom(before point plesant bridge collapsed it was seen), and alien, or something interdimentinal.

Gab...you are right, I think. It may be interdimensional. The indians didn't settle in West Virginia for some unknown reason. No one can figure it out. They were found everywhere but W.V. Did they know something about this area way back then?

These are the mothman twins. They are bite sized betties. They live in an stinky jewelry box by my bed. But they have powers, OH YES !!
For when they sing thier groovy song , it will summon Mothman.
