Four months ago three friends decided to take their fascination to another level and launch Cambridge Ghost Investigations - a part time venture to explore the chilling world of the afterlife. There are 10 members of the group who try and catch ghosts at locations believed to be haunted. But the work is not about running round the city armed with proton guns and blasting ghosts.Twenty-nine-year-old Ben Littlechild, assistant manager of the group, says although he is a big fan of the Ghostbusters films that is not what they do. They do not get rid of the ghosts, they monitor their movements. They use audio and visual equipment to try and capture evidence of possible paranormal activity and even try to speak to the ghosts.Ben, from Paget Road, Trumpington, said: "When we arrive we take a set of baseline readings and electromagnetic field readings from walking around the site."We then patrol the area every half an hour, checking the readings and taking a few photos before trying to speak out to whatever is out there."

Another tactic employed by the group is to set up a trigger object by placing something on a piece of paper and returning later to see if it has moved. So far the group has only undertaken one investigation, at St Mary's Church in Clophill, Bedfordshire which is believed to be the haunt of disturbed spirits.Three members of the group, Ben Littlechild, Paul Hood and Jason Stampe used their equipment to investigate the site for signs of paranormal behaviour.
