A Ridgefield man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault of a child after he allegedly attempted to circumcise his 8-year-old son.

Clark County sheriff's Sgt. Tony Barnes said the man, whose name is being withheld to protect the victim's privacy, claimed reading the Bible led him to try to circumcise his child Friday night.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, took the boy into the bathroom and used a hunting knife for the procedure, Barnes said.

"When he couldn't stop the bleeding, he called 911," Barnes said.

Firefighters arrived to begin treatment while deputies took the man into custody. He remained in the Clark County Jail on Saturday night.

The child was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center, where he received several stitches. Barnes said the case will be referred to Child Protective Services. CPS has been the family's home before to check on the nine children living there.

The victim's mother was home at the time of the assault, Barnes said, but it was not clear if she knew what the father was doing. She rode with the boy to the hospital.

"Just when you think you've seen everything," said Barnes, a 20-year law enforcement veteran. "This is just bizarre."

Why didn't they show the bible verse that convinced him that he could circumcise his son? It's sad how hard some people work for children, how it's almost impossible for others to conceive, while some people are abundent with children but can't even be trusted with a pencil.

First off, stupid people should not be breeding for the benefit of mankind...really, if the guy is thick enough to think that he can somehow perform a circumcision on a young boy with a hunting knife, he is too stupid for words and has proven himself unfit to be a father and a free citizen.


Well, lets hope that there is some kind of extremely long jail term involved with this @$$.

Someplace where he can be amongst wonderful people of would be willing to circumcise him...repeatedly...

I spent a few years in the employ (as a guard) of the state penal system and the one common decent trait of those felons was an unabiding hatred of the folks sent there for harming a child! Rest assured that if the inmates find out what that man did to his son, he will find himself as the "wife" of the biggest meanest felon there!

On the other hand I've seen on Discovery Channel a documentary of a tribe somewhere in Africa that does just that, with a commonly knife, when boys reach a certain age. That is sick sick sick. Our world is srewd up endeed.

There's a reason there are specialized tools for circumsicions, like scalpels not knives used for filleting fish.

i forget where but some people circumsize the women right before they are married, so they can be "a better wife" a female circumsision involves removing the clitorous

I saw a documentary a while ago where their parents pinned down their duaghters who were about 10 and removed it while they were screaming out loud.
Fortunately some of the children won a court case where their parents couldn't do it do them. It sucks how young children need to take their parents to court to stop their parents from slicing parts of their sexual organs of.
There was also a woman who actually had her vagina sowed shut and she wanted it reopened. She went to the hospital with her husband to talk to a doctor about it, but the husband wanted to do it himself because he's a Muslim something about it being his job, even after the doctor said that it would be very dangerous for him to do it as he had no experience.
Some peoples reasoning for things is just too stupid for words.

whats even worse when they circumsize females, they usually have a so called 'ceremony' for it and one knife is used for how many girls there are, which you can imagine would become very blunt... their' inner and outer labia are removed, sometimes even the clitoris, they become quite ill due to the procedure carried out on them, and get huge infections and the vagina is sewn so it is almost closed.... this is so they receive no pleasure, and its better for men.... nice to see what kind of world we are living in when this atrocity is still live and rampant

Women can't be circumcized. They haven't a penis, neitgher the flappy skinny thingy that they cut off. Although I heard about that story too. They removed it so that women were denied pleasure during sexual intercourse. Of course, a society of egotistical men.
