Does anyone here sleep-walk?
Has anyone had experience of a family member or a partner sleep-walking?
Well, lemme tell ya - it's blimmin scarey when someone crashes around the room gibbering about monsters, or railway tickets or just leaning over your side of the bed peering at you with open eyes that dont see......*shudder*

I wrote up a story from my book last year about a creepy encounter in a local hospital, and whilst pottering about a few weeks ago I came across a similar story. I forgot to book-mark it ~ D'oh, so I will try to remember it. But if I get it a bit wrong dont shout at me!

A few years ago a lady named Jane moved into a new house with her partner. He worked away and she was often left alone over-night - a prospect that didn't bother her in the least.
A few weeks after settling in, Jane had a terrible nightmare. She dreamt that an old woman in a long black dress, with grey hair pulled into a bun and a hunch-back was chasing her through the house with her hands out-stretched as if she meant to strangle her. The old woman gained on her until she had Jane cornered in the kitchen.......When she awoke, she was downstairs......in the kitchen. Alarmed but un-hurt, Jane decided to stay up. The dream had scared her very much.
The next night she was alone, she had the same dream. The old lady with the hunchback chasing her through the rooms in the house. Again she woke up just as the old womans hands clawed at her throat, bathed in sweat.......
There was a distinct pattern to the dreams.
They only occurred when she was alone.
They always featured the old woman.
Which ever room the old lady cornered her in, she woke up in..........

One particular night, Jane went to bed and began to dream.......as usual she was chased by the old lady........but this time, the hag caught her and began to strangle her.......Jane awoke gasping for breath.........and watched in the mirror as red marks appeared around her throat.
Jane confided in a neighbour the following day and was horrified to learn that the last owners of the house had moved away after only a short time......and that and old hunch-backed widow had lived there before.........but passed away... huh.gif

So......what can we make of this?
Was she really stalked and attacked by a viscious old ghost?
Or was it simply and attack of night-terrors, the marks on her neck produced by her own psyche? Was it the new house that made her anxious and caused the night mares??????

I'll leave you to decide..........

Moe has observed that Jane has a "partner". Tis good to come out of the closet, Jane. Its too bad that you have mother issues tho.... sad.gif

...being attacked by old ladies.. blink.gif

lol Moe !

And YAY Hammy.

Yet again after reading one of your posts, I'll be sleeping with the lights on lol. It would be interesting to know if the old hunchback woman who lived there was a few sandwiches short of a picnic when she was alive. Certainly a bit of a coincidence to dream about someone so similar

I have never sleep walked myself but a few of my friends have, two amusing stories come to mind in particular. One friend of mine was staying at another of my friends house, crashing on their sofa. He was awoken by my mate who walked straight through the lounge, he only heard him walk through, didn't see him, but started talking to him whilst he was out of sight in the kitchen, all his comments/questions getting non-commital answers. It was only when he walked back through the lounge from the kitchen that he saw that the other was not only sleep walking but completely starkers!

The second story well its not quite sleep walking but still quite funny - half asleep he wandered out of bed to go to the loo. He didn't properly awake until he closed the bathroom door behind him - only to find it wasn't the bathroom door but the front door, and yes he was also naked! He was locked out until his girlfriend came home an hour later!

This reminds me a of a time my best friends slept over and thought the fireplace was the loo.

you'd figure a roaring fire beneath mr. winky would be enough to wake the dead. It wasnt.

this was not a joyful slumber party.
PurpleStuart
God, that reminds me...

A little while back there were loads of my mates crashing round a house after a good coupla days partying and one of them mistook the sofa for the toliet.

Bad enough yeah, well another friend of mine was sleeping ON THE SOFA AT THE TIME laugh.gif

I don't think she apprieciated being awoken in that way laugh.gif

These are definately examples of psychic slips...

My mother used to sleep walk when she was a little girl but not anymore. Her father used to lock the front door so she woudn't get out of the house when she was sleep walking. huh.gif

The closest thing i've done to do something about sleep is to twitch in my bed and say jiberish wacko.gif .

But the lady dream and being choked, that is a nightmare!! I can't imaginge being waken up like that and......in the middle of something violent. I must feel bad for Jane.

Oh,,,I "Sleep Walked" as a child,

and occassionally I found myself in some "odd" situations. blink.gif

There was the time, (at about age 4,) when I woke up to find myself standing outside, on our front lawn staring up at the full moon. This one HAD to have been the eeriest episode of all!!!

That is basically the entire story
",,,except for all of the screaming that I did, calling for my parents." laugh.gif

As I understand it, my voice echoed across about three continents...It MIGHT have even awakened the dead...

Good to see things haven't changed whilst I've been away from the forum and hammy is still giving us good stories.

I've never sleep walked but as a kid tended to have fairly vivid dreams, various things would set them off (usually scary stuff on TV - hide behind the sofa when the daleks appear on-screen that sort of thing original.gif ). One year when I was a lot younget the family went on holiday, and lost a ticket for something in the car and practically had to strip the car down to find it and apparently that night whilst asleep I was waving my hands in the air I was asked if anything was wrong and I said "I'm looking for the lost ticket". Doesn't happen anymore (I'm sure I'd of been told if it did) so it's one of those things I grew out of.

So I could well imagine that for a sensitive soul a change of house could have quite an effect.

ookkkkaaaaay - well this thread has gone a little off-course from what I had intended......

I wanted to know if people can 'tune in' the a part of their brain, a latent side that psychics claim to use.

I forgot to say that Jane woke up by her front door on one occaision, and on another, was out in the road heading for the cemetary opposite.
And yes...........the old lady was buried there blink.gif

Ooops looks as if deleted the last bit of my message when I edited it sad.gif

Ok so now what did I write.... It was something like this:

I know she spent a lot of nights on her own and I guess this wasn't the first time 'home-alone' in the new house as I assume it would of been mentioned. I wonder if she'd been a sleep walker a child? So many questions rolleyes.gif.

Anyway as I said the changes caused by the move of house could be a cause of strange dreams particularly if a person is sensitive to this sort of thing, but I'd of expected the problems to of begun earlier if it was just that. Maybe some experiences in the house combined with being alone started these nightmares as it's certainly not unknown for people to have recurring nightmares. Self-harm during sleep has been recorded as well as sleep walking and waking up in another room, so that's not too odd. However, for me the strangest thing is the old hunch-backed woman part of it, how did jane come to see her? Maybe she found an old picture, but as far as I can tell the first she heard about it was from the neighbour. So did she pick up on something that happened in the house years ago or is the old lady making her displeasure felt in someway? Perhaps the most interesting bit is finding out there was an old lady in the house and that the previous occupants moved out pretty sharpish - if they hadn't moved so quickly it'd be logical to say it's just very bad dreams... Whether Jane was picking up a presence or 'recording' of some sort or whether the old hag was making herself known I can't say...

No really answers just plenty to think about and lots of questions...

Oh well did the best I could at remember what I wrote but I've lost the train of thought I had sad.gif

No sleepwalking in my past (or present), but my boyfriend did something quite amusing once -- I'm not sure if he was sleepwalking or just in that sort of dazed, discombobulated state you're in when you wake up out of a sound sleep cause you have to pee, but here's what happened:

We were in bed, he was asleep and I was watching tv (he can sleep through any noise). He woke up (?), sat up, and I asked him if he was ok, to which he replied "Have you paid the rent yet?". I giggled a bit and said "What?", and he repeated, somewhat agitated, "Have you paid the rent yet?!?". Bear in mind that we don't yet live together, so whether or not I've paid the rent is pretty much my business. Also, it was in the middle of the month, I think, not anywhere near the time when the rent would be due.

Well, I had to laugh. Then he got out of bed; the bathroom is off of the bedroom, and is very near the side of the bed where he'd been sleeping, but instead of going there as I thought he might, he walked most of the way around the bed and headed for the bedroom door (we keep it closed at night, to be sure the cat stays in with us and isn't out in the living room causing mischief). I asked him what he was doing, thinking that maybe he wanted a snack or a drink and was headed for the kitchen, but he said "I have to go the bathroom", at which point I cracked up and told him that in that case he was going very much the wrong way! I reminded him where the bathroom is located, he went in and used it, came out, climbed back into bed, and was fast asleep again in under 10 seconds!

When I asked him the next morning if he remembered what happened, he didn't remember any of it. Which doesn't necessarily mean that he was sleepwalking, because if you're tired enough during the night you can forget entire conversations, phone calls, movies you watched, etc., by the next day. But either way, it was pretty damn funny. w00t.gif

oh man. I used to be pro-star sleep walker. Here are some of the many things I have done (according to my mom)

--> Gone to the bathroom, washed my hands, went back to bed
--> Wandered the hallway
--> Gone to get a kleenex and blown my nose
--> Started going down stairs (my dad apparently came and re-directed me to my room)

*I can actually walk all through my house (awake) with my eyes closed, it's a weird thing I take pride in... let's just say I've had some REALLY boring days laugh.gif

Is it true that being awaken during a sleep-walking period can cause great stress to your nerves? And what about talking in your sleep? My brother does this EVERY night, generally it's mumbling but I've never paid close attention to it.

There'z a Couple Formz of Sleepwalking....

1 Type iz a Serious HEalth Condition where Some People can Actually Walk Milez then Return Home, or even Do Strange Taskz they Planned 2 Do....

Another iz a Natural Form where u Just Don't Remember Waking Up and Doin Thingz, (Turning On/Off Lightz, or Household Appliancez, an Even Using the Restroom) Then U'll Go Back 2 Sleep, Wake up the Next Day With No Idea U've done Anything.... It'z nothing Serious, It'z Subconcious Cauze u Believe the Thingz u Did Occured in a Dream....

The Other typez r Side Effectz From Fatigue, Medication, Self Medication, Or Combinationz of Thoze Typez....

The 1st Type iz Obviously the Most Dangerous, Some People have Been Found Attempting 2 Operate Vehiclez, Ovenz, and All that Good Stuff....

Sleepwalking runs in my family, but I dont think I've done it. But when I was around 10 I went to sleep on my bottom bunk and woke up on the top so that was a little weird. That story is really freaky though. If I woke up heading towards the cemetary where a lady was burried whom had been choking me in my dreams, I dont even know what I'd do.

I love watching the Discovery Channel...so I saw this episode on how a man had a sleep-walking episode and drove to his in-laws house and murdered them. When he arrived home, he woke up at some point and saw blood all over him, and he thought he had DREAMT that he killed his in-laws, but the blood convinced him he had done so in reality. He called the cops on himself and when it went to trial, they determined him Not Guilty (first case they said that this situation ever happened). The wife testified that the guy always slept-walked. Point is, when he woke up, he had a feeling that he dreamed what happened. If he didnt have blood on him, he would have kept thinking it was a dream.

Not every person has someone they live with. Sleep walking can occur at any stage in your life. You could be sleepwalking and not even know it. If you ever have a dream, however powerful or mundane it is, but you just remember it very strongly when you first wake up, and it's something where you're thinking..."was that reality or my dream?" then it was very possibly reality. I don't really know if we can say "hey, I'm going to sleep walk tonight" and control it, but I do think we would know if we did sleep walk but that we can't make any of our own decisions while doing so. Just because we make a decision during this state, I don't think that if we were using our conscious thought, we would always make the same decision. But in our subconscious thought, our dreams, we feel we can do whatever and it's ok because it's not "real." But sometimes it is.

I've slept walked so many times and I sleep talk almost every night and I do and say the stupidest things according to people when they hear or see me. But I'm in my dreams and since that's not reality and I'm not in my conscious state, my subconscious takes over. And who knows what's going on in there original.gif

The flat we lived in now was occuppied by an elderly woman who had been under seige by our previous neighbours. She had lived in our flat for over 40 years and lost her husband and one of her sons, while living here.

When we moved in-her prescence was very strong. One night my husband and I went to bed, because we both were under the weather. My disability had played me up and he was just down with a touch of flu.

It must have been about 3am; when I distinctly heard a man and a woman talking in our hallway. My neighbour upstairs had a daughter living with her, but no man. Then as I woke up, because thier voices were loud and audible I saw a figure of a young girl in victorian clothing standing beside the bed. I didn't panic.

I then kept getting the sense that the woman was traumitized in her own home right up to her death. The prescence was so strong that visitors felt her when they came in.

We worked out that she was trying to warn us about our former neighbour. It turned out that one of the things that they use to do to her was put dead mice and rats through her door. Our letterbox inside is really narrow, as a result.

So, I believe there is something to the story. I am just curious, it sounds like the old lady was strongly attached to her home and felt like her home was being invaded.

Since, we had a vigil and we caught something over the two-way-it has quietened down; especially since our former neighbour has left.

However, there is knocking and strange bangings going on in my new neighbours flat upstairs and we wonder if she was involved in dark forces. Last night my neighbour was out and loud knockings and bangings could be heard from her flat; although she was not there and her flat was in total darkness.

Hah! You better not move any furniture. As far as waking a sleepwalker, I think the doctors still say not to. My sister used to sleepwalk and my mother would just tell her to go back to bed. She'd go. Also, this woman with the welts/scratches/whatever on her neck--I posted about a dream I had where I was being choked. When I woke up, I was grasping and clawing at my neck (trying to move the unseen hands), so she could've done it to herself. New house and alone, she could be anxious whether she realized it or not.

Now, as to the rest of the story. I've given you the generic answer a doc would probably give. But there may be more here. I just don't know. If I were her, I'd find a friend to sleep over with real quick (either way). thumbsup.gif
