A US firm is planning to market strawberry-flavoured bananas.



Chiquita International is planning a range of new flavours because it reckons bananas are becoming boring.

It hopes the new range will command premium prices and draw in a new range of customers, reports Sky News.

The firm is refusing to say how the bananas will be changed, only that they will not be genetically modified.

Chief executive Fernando Aguirre said: "I have seen about eight and tasted four or five different types.

"Now we need to find out from consumers if this is relevant and whether it is something they would like to see and be willing to pay for."

The Cincinnati-based company plans to test the new, fruity flavours in Europe and America during the next year.

Things that really are boring dont get changed....we have to suffer thru it....and they go and change bananas.... what is this world coming to???

im with nicksoslick... if you want strawberry flavor, eat a strawberry. Its bad enuff that all our fruit has fertilizers and pesticides and crap, dont go adding artificial flavour and junk.

I Love bananas and I absolutely adore strawberries but to have bananas tasting of strawberries sounds quite bizzarre ! For me to eat a banana , I expect it to taste like one, to eat a strawberry, I expect the same besides strawberries are nice in shape and mouthwatering in colour and if I ate a banana which tasted of a strawberry, I think I would lose my enjoyment of eating both strawberries and bananas. It just wouldn't be the same.

i think regular bananas are boring, and pretty tasteless, but thats cause i have had apple bananas, they are the best, they are 10 times sweeter then regular, and i would take them over a regular one anyday

This is soooo unbelivebly sad. What we are doing to our food? What are the LONG Term effects on our bodies and envermont? Look at HOW Much we have learned about chemicals we use to keep pests off our foods, and how bad it is for us.


I can't put in word the outrage i feel, when i have to drive an extra 10 miles to buy "organic" food, milk from cows that were treated with chemicals and anitbodies and "free rang" meats, let alone pay extra for it.

When will learn that the many health problems, obeties, and tolrenace to meds we have are experiancing now is because of what we are doing to our food!

If they come out with bananas that taste like snozzberries, maybe I'll be interested. Otherwise, just a lot of wasted research.

You know, if they're not doing it through genetic modification, then they're prolly injecting some sort of high-sugar flavoring into the banana or something....either way, I don't think it can be too good for you....

How the hell can a fruit become boring? You eat a banana because you want to eat a banana not a strawberry!
