A lot of supposed hair samples and other bits of alleged physical evidence do indeed seem to either disappear or yeild no conclusive results - but that doesn't necessarily mean that someone is trying to cover up evidence of the Yeti, it may simply mean that someone is trying to cover up the fact that they have made a mistake.
