Full Version: Some Interesting Facts About the Unknown

Well, as many of you know, cryptids and any information about them is shrouded in mystery, but there are some things that can give us clues to what's relly happening in the world of Cryptozoology. I have a few trivia facts about some crpytidss that you may or may not know.

1. Interestingly, it is illegal to hunt or kill a Bigfoot in certain states.

2. We all know museums. But every musem has a few floors off limits to the public. Every museum has a specimen vault. I've heard several reports that physical evidence of cryptids like Nessie and unknown humanoids are kept in these specimen vaults. Also, several specimens from other crpytids from all over the world are being secretly kept in museums around the world. And several of the specimens are recent.

3. Many people believe chupacabra is a genetic freak let loose, and It may be true. In 1995, several local people used a bulldozer to block off a cave where the creature was believed to live, and reports of attacks stopped. But, a few months later during a hurricane, a military facility was partially destroyed. One of the sections that was wiped out was the genetics lab. A few days after, the attacks began again. whistling2.gif

4. So many people deny the existence of the Loch Ness Monster, claiming that the lake couldn't support a large predator. But many people don't know that Loch Ness has a few openings to the ocean.

5. Most of the swamps of the congo are about 80% unexplored.

6. Lots of people don't believe in Giant Anacondas, but most scientists that go looking for them today don't even investigate the areas they are reported from. They make a round in the general location. Plus, a snake that big would only have to eat once a year or so.
* An interesting side note to this fact. Anacondas can stretch themselves out when swimming or moving, and they may give off the appearance of being larger or smaller than they really are. I have noticed this with my pet anaconda, and I will attach a picture of her. She is around 6 1/2ft. long when she is moving on the ground, but when held, she appears much shorter.

7. Most people don't believe in sea monsters, but 70% of the world is covered in water, and we haven't even fully explored the 30% of land there is on earth.

8. Chupacabras have been seen from Peurto Rico, to South America, and even Texas and Florida.

9. There are said to be three different species of Yeti.

Below is the pic of my beautiful pet Anaconda. the snake is really around 6 ft, but sometimes she appears to be around 6 and 1/2 ft, and sometimes she seems 4 ft. It's a little hard to explain, but I've noticed that my Anaconda's size seems to vary at times, and was wondering if the same was true for the giants.

Yes it is. I just posted the pic to show you how anaconda's size can appear to be misleading.

I wouldn't exactly call this a "fact"! Sounds like hearsay.

Is owning that snake legal? huh.gif

I saw a documentary on Loch Ness, and one of the scientists was talking about how museums have several unknown specimens. Some of them are considered classified acoording to him.

And about the snake. I live in Los Angeles, so owning an Anaconda is illegal without a permit... rolleyes.gif

Well, I don't know the guy, but doubt that among the not yet classified species some museums may have there is "physical evidence of cryptids like Nessie and unknown humanoids ". Less exciting stuff, maybe.

LOL, I wouldn't put it out on the internet that I owned an illegal animal, with pics to prove it! laugh.gif Just in case. Why did you get that snake? Did you already know it was illegal? huh.gif

It's allright, no knows who I am. I bought it because I love reptiles, and not many reptiles are more impressive than an Anaconda! I also have a couple of monitor lizards. I'm probably one of the only people to live in Los Angeles with an Anaconda, so I guess I bought it for shock value, and love of reptiles. And yes I knew it was illegal when I bought it, but I'm a rebel. cool.gif

some good facts there thumbsup.gif

ok a bit off topic but if you only had to eat once a year like a giant anaconda, what would you eat?..i mean its your only food for a whole year..

Interesting. Well buddy, I hope it doesn't kill ya! laugh.gif That would be a painful way to go! crying.gif

Be extremely careful with that snake as it gets bigger, they are very dangerous!! (I bet that's why they're illegal! rolleyes.gif ) Make sure no one, especially small children, has access to it while you aren’t there.

Okay to answer Mr halo and Panthera leo atrox's questions. First, Mr, halo. The anaconda would probably only have to eat a buffalo once a year, and it could remain dormant for the rest of the year. remember snakes aren't like us. now Panthera leo atrox, I know anacondas carry a certain level of danger, but I know what I'm doing, you forget, I'm Monster hunter gunsmilie.gif Anyway... my anaconda is very sweet, and she only attacks food that has the smell of rodents. And I let people pet it all the time. the snake is very docile. I also don't let kids around it when i'm not there. thanx for the concern, but don't worry, i've got it all under control... cool.gif BTW, that pic is of my homie messing around.

Funny pic. tongue.gif

Just remember to be alert around the animal at all times. Understand its behavior, respect its power, ect. You can't tame it, and you can never trust it. Remember, even zookeepers make mistakes and get themselves killed.

again, thanks for the concern, but I know how to handle my snake. She is very passive, and she will not attack anything unless it smells like rodents. Besides, even when the snake is annoyed, it just pulls away, and it is very hard to piss it off. I'll tell what animal I should be careful of though, my pet monitor lizard. Now with this guy, you need to watch your fingers at feeding time!

How much expereance have you had with snakes?
Cobalt Demon
That is a beautiful snake :-D

About museum having few floors off limit. it isnt a hersay, it is VERY true. I use to have a teacher who work at Smithsonian and he give few hints about it and he say that it isnt EXACTLY a classified, it is just something are afaird to show on exhibition because it could cause massive conflict. He mostly speak about few strange skulls that was found in south america, few recently fossil of animals that was suppose to be nonexist today, and few other things.

Thank you, for both complimenting my snake and supporting my museum statement. Did you teacher mention what type of skulls they had found?

And I've been caring for reptiles for a few years now, and actually, the anaconda was my first snake!

interesting. Wouldn't be suprised if they had a few recent fossils of the tassie tiger
Cobalt Demon
I showed him one pic which I had in a book that seems to be what he described but he wont comment on it too much. He just say that it is a unique skull from south america. It was similar to this one http://paranormal.about.com/library/weekly/aa051500a.htm

Also he mentioned few things about sabertooth cat or some really huge catlike creatures and few other similar creatures. I THINK he was basically just saying that that space was basically for something very new or hasnt been solved yet and for something that could prove something big to be wrong. I think it has more to do with when certain animals become extinict than anything else.
Dowdy
they could reconstruct the skull to see what the person looked liked. Like how today, the CSI dudes find skulls many years old. They reconstruct the face to see what the person looked like and it was a missing person from a few years ago (this is a real case, not the TV show).

But those skulls are too old i guess

There are no subterranean tunnels connecting Loch Ness with the sea.
vulturetotem
i still own a copy of "mysteries of the unexplained" readers digest, copyright 1982,seem science has been hiding stuff since long before our time. i think they hide it away a bit deeper than off limit museum floors. can't let no truth get out.

note:unlike pythons and what movies would have us believe, anacondas are fat and rather lazy on land. hate to meet one in the water.

I know they have floors that are off limit, I was just saying they don't have bigfoot.
