Soon after the space shuttle Columbia broke apart in the skies over Texas, people offered to sell on the Internet what they say is crash debris.

The offers for debris, which NASA officials had warned the public not to touch because of the possibility of toxic contamination, appeared briefly on the popular Internet auction site eBay before they were taken down, a company spokesman said.

that's america for ya. making money off of tragedy and lacking any respect for human dignity. makes me want to sing the national anthem...

How disgusting that people want to make money out of this tragedy, there are too many people in this world who think nothing of people but of their own personal gain.

Just beggars belief really.....

NASA warned members of the public Sunday against trying to sell purported Columbia debris on eBay, as local law enforcement agencies struggled to cordon off and protect the hundreds of pieces of wreckage.

``People should not be collecting that at all. It's all government property,'' said NASA spokesman Bruce Buckingham.

Hours after the shuttle broke up Saturday over Texas, raining smoking debris over the countryside, listings for pieces began appearing on the Internet auction site. The items were quickly removed by eBay.

Buckingham said he was stunned.

``We live in an evil world, and there are people that will do those types of things,'' he said at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Atleast Ebay is threatening legal action against these clowns, hopefully that will put an end to it;
