CAIRO (Reuters) - A 122-year-old man, whose age if substantiated would have made him the oldest living person on the planet, has died in Egypt, a newspaper reports.

Al-Wafd said that Youssef Mohamed Attia al-Chadhli, a carpenter from the town of Damietta on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, had eight children, the oldest of whom had died at age 72

Even if substantiated, how can we be sure he would be the oldest? I think a more appropriate statement would be the worlds oldest known man/woman/person
