Today, the cast list went up for the first school play of the year. I was not surprised when, once again, I was selected to play the protagonist's mother. It bugs me, but that seems to be my type cast. I get stuck in the mature roles that tend not to have an interesting character development on their own: they are simply so-and-so's mother who's there for continuity's sake. This is not because I'm a poor actress. I kick butt when it comes to acting (and I'm not being egotistical; I've competed before, I've gotten great reviews). However, due to my mature physical presence, I get the mother roles.
Also, there's a joke going around that my type cast, in general, is a fat black mother. (I have a big belting voice- good for gospel) Kinda odd for a medium-build pasty white girl, huh?
So, for all actors out there: what's your type cast?
