Haha! Canadien I posted the same picture in a topic a little while back and we all decided it was a sardine (or mackerel or somthing

) bercause it is so badly cut and pasted to the picture. and look at the rope 'holding' it up its not even attached to the tail. XD
On the otherhand when I came to this topic I was expecting somthing big gross and squishy.... my dreams are crushed

Well I wonder how big the eel would have been full grown... It could have been a full grown Green Moray Eel and they mistook it for a larvae....

i live in hawaii, ive seen morays before, they look nothing like eel larvae,
on a side note, if you piss a moray off it WILL follow you onto land to chase you, they move kinda like a snake.
100 feet is how big the eel larvae would have gottin if allowed to live
clickythats where i got the 100 foot thing

Oh my god! Brain flash!
What if it was not a eel larvae at all but the fry of an oar fish?
Could have been classical olden day species misrepresentation...
Hmm

I never kneww that a moray eel would follow you... weird..
Oh and you may want to watch your language XD

For any who don't know what an oarfish looks like.
I couldn't find anything about fry on them but I am guessing they would pretty much exactly the same as an adult oarfish only not as long and transparent.

Hello all....This is my first post on this website. I am an independent researcher of all things strange and unexplained. The truth is....I just really have nothing better to do. Yes, the story is true. A giant eel larvae was caught in the net of a deep sea trawler. It was over six feet long, and this would make its adult size from 80 to 100 feet. Eels are common in Loch Ness, and I believe this to be the basis of many sightings of 'the monster'. The oceans of this world are over 90% unexplored, and we can look foreward to seeing some truly strange things come out of them. Thanks for your time, and I look forward to more posts. Goo'day ta ye, lads an' lassies.

. Can you provide some more info on this, like maybe a link?? That I would like to see!

i dont know about a link, but i have had it happen, and its well known here not to clean fish near the water, the blood and guts will attract eels.
an interesting side note, if you crush an eels head it will keep moving, but if you smash its tail it will die pretty quick.

So if i'm right you said oarfish in the fry stage are 2 feet.. Wow thats big for a fish that just hatched, but I wouldn't be surprised if an oarfish fry could reach 67 feet, some of tha adults are huge. I think there has been a recorded 40+ foot one.
EDIT: Sorry for got to put a 40+ foot adult!

One of the biggest ever recorded was in Scottland, and was 57 feet long-this was back in 1808.

i've read several times that the size of an eel larvae (for some species) is not an indication of the eventual size of the adult. In some cases the larvae is larger than the eventual adult. So extrapolating doesn't always give a good guess on size.
