- I just saw the coolest thing. We bought the new dvd version of the star wars episodes 4, 5, and 6... and I just finished watching The Return of the Jedi. You know that part at the end where everyone is celebrating the Imperial's fall? Well the planets they show celebrating now includes Naboo! And guess what else? The three Jedi spirits Yoda, Obi-wan, and Anakin are still there but Anakin has been changed so that it's the younger one that's going to be seen in Episode III! Pretty awesome if you ask me.

i think thats messed up, how can they go and change the movie like that?
BurnSide
I dunno, tampering with the originals was all fine and dandy when it was the simple graphical updates in the re-releases, but this goes a step further and tampers with the original storylines. It's bad enough that 1-3 were even made, but they should have been made around the episodes 4-6 and those episodes shuld have been left alone.

i know, it's sad, the originals were original, now they are trying to modernize them.....
Kat_Kloud
I think it's fine.

It makes it obvious that Darth Vader wasn't always an old, mechanicalized man... besides they made it look pretty cool.

Plus, it's George Lucas' story... it seems to me that he's trying to make the two parts of the story blend together like it's supposed to.

So how come hardly anyone likes the new Star Wars movies? From what I've heard from other people, they say it's cause "it's not like the old ones", meaning what? There is no Han Solo or Luke Skywalker? They weren't born yet... so how can they be a part of the story? Personally I like the fact that Lucas is showing us everything that happened before the first series. He was going to originally start it with the main character being Darth Vader in the forst place and now he's done it.

I think it's interesting to see what is it that can make such a good person turn evil? Don't you think? It's a very interesting story.

But they went overboard with that damn Jar-Jar Binks. Man I wanted to throw something at him, til' I realized he was inside my t.v.

Because they suck tongue.gif

The acting, directing, and script is utterly dire (more so the script than anything else...I think I could actually live with the terrible acting, especially from the loser they picked to play Anakin, if it wasn't for some of the terrible lines Lucas put in their mouths), and overall it just lacks the same charm of the origonals.

It's not about the characters (although I do actually think the way they've worked some of the characters into it is pretty sad, and gives a big kick in the head to continuity) it's about the quality...Attack of the Clones wasn't that bad, horrible acting from Anakin aside...but The Phantom Menace was just plain horrible huh.gif

Lucas seemed to concentrate far too heavily on special effects, and not enough on the story he was trying to tell....and it ended up being rather blank and sucky as a result. All the Phantom Menace had to save it was the fight scenes.

Phantom Menace wasn't that great. I actually did like the Attack of the Clones- everything from the point at which they go to the execution area is the best!

I mean, Yoda with lightsaber, the biggest battle scene including like fifty jedi at once! Come on.

I do have to agree that Anakin is sad at acting. You can see him getting a little better as the movie progresses but oh my god in the beginning- that was sad. I dunno... there was no feeling in what he was saying. It was just... said.

Although the previews for the third and final episode are looking promising. Supposedly it's the most anticipated Star Wars movie yet. I saw a insider showing Anakin and Obi-Wan fighting, they practice for hours every day just fighting for the one scene.

They make Anakin look really evil and he looks way cooler than the "oh my god I'm the stubborn prissy brat jedi". He's got this long dark curly hair and they made his eyes all shadowy. It shows them putting the helmet on them and one of the crew members go, "It's back to the old days" when they watch him walk up to the fight scene in the newly made Darth Vader helmet and suit. It's looking like this one will make up for the shtupidness parts in the last two.

You have greater faith in Mr Lucas than I tongue.gif
Kat_Kloud
Of course.

He's the one person who led movies into what they are today. He started all of that out of this world animation and movies...
jpalz
Agree with you Kat. Lucas deserves respect.

Besides him, if it weren't by him we wouldn't have know of Indiana Jones (if the new one is bad, I don't make myself responsible for what I might do)
Talon
Lucas used to be good, but he's just arrogant now

Here is why:

"I love you"
"But love is forbidden."

An hour later:

"I love you."
"But love is forbidden."

Episode I was decent (minus Jar Jar binks---nothing makes Star Wars reek more than a CGI character stepping in Bantha poop).

Episode II had great special effects and a great chase scene, but the story was lame and dull. People don't go to Star Wars to see an hour of 2 people talking about forbidden love.

I did like this change.

Now we just have to find a way to convince Lucas that Jabba would not let Han Solo step on his tail anymore than Donald Trump would let one of his apprentices spit on his shoes.

Ah, but just because he made them first doesn't mean that he can't change.

The whole script for Episodes I and II were extremely horrible. In the older movies, they stayed on track, they didn't have any extra things stuck in there to try and show how things were done. In the new ones, he showed how everything happened. Sure, you can show how some important things happened, but don't over-do it.

And another reason I think the new ones suck is because even though I'm a child of the 90'90s, and even though I do love explosions (I mean, who doesn't like a giant ball of fire done completely on the computer?), I like all the fake looking stuff more. I'd rather see a puppet walking around that looks like it has terrets then a fully computer animated amphibian...

In the end the simple fact is,

They just don't make 'em like they used to.

That is true.

Star Wars eps 1 and 2 weren' terrible.... just not in the same league as eps 4, 5,6
