A friend of mine believes her house is haunted, and every now & again, she gets the strong smell of roses.

Can anyone help us explain this?!

Thanks

Kate

this house could be haunted.. and by having a strong smell of roses, i wouldnt think the spook would be a 'bad' one as such... maybe it was the person who inhabited this house before favourite flower...

Tigger makes a good point this could be the perfume, or flowers commonly kept in the house before passing over but again the Energy from this maybe stored or recorded in the walls and material around the house.

ask your friend is the smell stronger by the window or a mantlepiece where flowers would or could be kept.

in Reading there is an old church called st michaels back in 1872 the churchs land used to be vast and spread for miles around even through were i used to live well my mother still lives there now.

the local clergy even built the Holy brook river behind my house to border off the churchs land. but the graveyard was nowhere near my house just the land, anyway as i said we have lived there for twenty plus years and the first 10 years were fine no problems but after while things started to happen like in the summer we had all the windows open due to the heat I had a friend staying round must have been about 12 years old at this point but outside below we could here the large pots being dragges around the concrete very clearlyand when looking out the window could see they have been moved, the sixth step on the stairs became very cold freezing in fact but the next step is fine, we have looked for drafts in the area and could find none, over the years these things have increased energy. singing from a young boy can be heard in the house, of coarse we assumed this was naturally coming from somwhere else but none of our neighbours have a small boy.
I used to play football over the park with my mates when i was about thirteen in this park was a tall tower with a slide which we all used to congrigate in, from this tower you could see the master bedroom of my house and on nermourous occassions and not just me that saw this my sister did my friends and a few cousins did to, A man dressed all in black standing there in the window staring at us or out at nothing but the man was wareing what looked like a bowler hat but bigger like an 1800's clergyman hat. mum never would believe what we have seen but as time went on she to started to believe us saying she to had seen a man outside staring in briefly in the down stairs window my sister one morning while drying her hair noticed a black hazey figure climbing the stairs going into the back bedroom {my room i might add not impressed hearing that} every apliance would break down in such a short period of time the fuses in the house would always trip what ever was happening only started after about ten years it's like somthing had just chosen our house one day to dwell in things in the house would be moved around floor boards would creek constantly like they were being walked on even if you were alone in the house for years this continued until me and my sister left home and my mother and father have said only little things have happened since. but in my house you always get the feeling your being watched.. the one thing i would love to explain is the freezing cold sixth step on the stairs which is like this all year round even in the summer all the others are fine though.

Do you think I should turn this into a topic for discussion on the main page. huh.gif ???

Thanks for your help guys.

I ask my friend, and the smell could be anywhere in the house....sometimes in the middle of a room, other times by the door etc.

Its as if a pocket of air is passing by, but only for around 5-10 seconds.

That deffinately seems like some thing is there if its a pocket of air floating around with the smell of roses.

spray the smell with air freshener see if it becomes stronger see what happens

I would suggest that your friend have a camera handy, take a picture where the smell is, they might or might not get a pic of the spirit. Hey it is worth a shot. (no pun intended) grin2.gif

It is very common for smells being connected to spirits .

the only times ive heard of the smell of roses being connected to ghosts is when death is near. also i heard that when you are close to dying, you smell roses and hear birds chirping and such. i suggest you take some pics around the house to see if it is really a ghost making that smell.

Smells are definately associated with spirits and ghosts. Usually the smell or scent is one that the deceased either wore or loved....Like a favorite perfume or cologne. I've never heard of the "death is near when you smell roses" but it's entirely possible. I agree with snapping some pictures when the smell comes around again. Especially since the smell seems to move locations. Good luck and keep us posted. thumbsup.gif

Oh yeah, by the way, a good website to check out would be the Sylvia Browne site. She's a world renowned physcic (don't know if spelling is right?) who has helped many police officers close unsolved murder cases. Her site may have some answers for you.

The fragrance of Roses has been something that I have LONG-ASSOCIATED with death, ever since my childhood as a matter of fact.

I mean EVERY Funeral Home ALWAYS smells of Roses, this is where my association between Roses and Death comes from, I presume.

I have also noticed that many times I have caught a whiff of roses, (where there were no roses,) and then within a few days I will hear of the death of someone that I know.

This is just an odd, but true side-note...

I use to have a spirit visit who brought along a strong smell of roses. It was my way of identifying her. original.gif

There is a school of thought that says that a benevolent spirit will bring a pleasent smell to signal that it is in the room. I have often experienced the strong smell of roses, as well as the smell of freshy-baked cookies (I always believe that to be the spirit of my grandmother entering a room!!).
Also, there is sometimes the smell of fresh-cut flowers.... kind of like what a florist shop smells like.

When my father passed away in his bedroom my brother and myself disassembled his hospital bed and took it into the garage, I was taking the last piece in and all of a sudden the whole garage began smelling like i just walked into a florist shop and smelled like roses, I went into the kitchen where the rest of the family was and hospice nurse and asked them to come to the garage and see if they smelled anything or if it was just me. Everyone smelled the same thing as I and my sister had asked the funeral home to uncover my father's face as they were taking him away so he could leave the house for the last time with dignity. I didn't know what to think about the smell because I have never heard about this before but do think that it was a sign of passing to the other side and appreciating the fact that my sister had asked for his face to be uncovered.

Haunted? Smell of roses? laugh.gif Oh dear, no the house isn't haunted, this could be the presence of an angel or a saint, most people get confused on these issues, especially when someone undergoes stigmata, it's thought to be a demonic presence ( although demonic activity may be involved here and there. hmm.gif ) Anyhoo, it's important not to become too afraid of these things, just be aware that a demonic presence or spiritual haunting has a fowl smell, usually of feces, sulphur, etc.

Often a spirit whom had worn perfume in life or had a favorite flower will use a scent to get someone's attention. So yes, it is quite possible that the house is haunted and not all haunting are bad ones they can be friendly spirits. original.gif

I thought the smell of roses are connected with a death?

It is quite possible that the smell of roses are associated with death but it can also be associated with someone who loved the smell of roses. Rose perfume even can fill a room without any roses being present. Floral fragrences hit me all the time and I am allergic to most of them so there is no one who wears perfume nor brings flowers into the home. I will admit we have a rose garden but when the winter comes there ain't no roses on the bush and I still smell them. One of life's mysteries I guess! grin2.gif

There are 2 scents that I usually smell about an hour or half hour before a migraine headache starts........sometimes I smell ink, other times I smell roses. For most people a migraine aura (a warning of sorts) consists of seeing flashes of lights, but for some people the aura can be a scent. For me it has always been a scent.....so if I smell roses when there aren't any around, I know a migraine headache is about to hit. Just thought I'd post this to let you know that smelling roses isn't always a paranormal event.
