I am studying to become a Marine Biologist,so I need to learn about all the sea life.I am also taking a scuba course so I can become a professional scuba diver. All the sea life interests me,so therefore I can memorize all the names of the sea creatures and how they act.I also have many books on sea life.

Boxfish are not mutated. They are a regular species. They are quite common in tropical waters. As for the last pic,That is a spotted neon blue Boxfish.

Oct 26 2004, 01:44 AM
Are they a fairly new species? I ask this because the zoologist in
this article didn't know what it was. Or are they not the same fish?
Canadian Rottweiler
Oct 26 2004, 01:49 AM
The creature in that article is a deep sea shark.I can't quite remember what it is called.Somewhat rare creature. And No,the boxfish is not a new species.

Oct 26 2004, 08:29 PM
the animal in the article pic looks like a sun fish to me, because of the body structure, the face looks different, may be sick, or a new sub species or relative

Sorry

So the taste of this fish is like eating it raw, even when cooked? Pretty gross! Why is it in the shape it is or in other words, what is it adapted for or to?
bloodmoon
Oct 28 2004, 10:51 AM
i dont know about the shape, but they have kind of an armor plating under their skin, ive been spear fishing and shot at one, and it bounced off the spear, they are also not very fast, i guess they dont need to be with armor like that.
and whats wrong with raw fish???
mmmmmm sashimi.

I learned this just now...
The Boxfish are a group of squared, bony fish. They come in a variety of different colors, but are a very peculiar looking fish. They swim in a rowing manner. They are good community tank members and can be as small as the size of a die. They are not thought of as an ordinary aquarium tank mate, but are quickly gaining popularity. They do posses a hazard in the community tank however. They are capable of releasing a very powerful toxin which can kill other fish on contact. They generally only use it when threatened, but can become disturbed easily with aggressive tank mates or overcrowded aquariums.
