Dolphins may have the power to alter our DNA and switch our genes "on" and "off" to help us heal. That's the fishy claim of dolphin researcher Dr. Michael Hyson, who says that the mammals can generate sound and electromagnetic fields that can have a positive effect on human DNA to help treat diseases like autism, cerebral palsy and depression. Although Hyson can't explain how dolphins know which genes to turn "on" and "off" to treat humans and admits "it's a hypothesis," he claims dolphins have treated humans this way for thousands of years.
In fact, he says a dolphin helped him heal a couple of painful dislocated vertebrae by sending "sonar pulses" towards him when he was swimming with the creature. While there have been a few cases of Adolph Hitler-type Flippers who hurt humans instead of helping them, Hyson insists this is very rare.

Flipper to the rescue.
In truth, I think this is bogus.

I'm not surprised. There is very little we know about them. And personaly, I feel they are rather more keener then humans when it comes to these things.

why dont we use sonar pulses on our vertebrate all the time?

I think it would be great if they could actually do that.

Hope this doesn't mean their going to go out there and start medical testing dolphins.

I love dolphins, they are so mysterious and unknown. I actually believe they may be smarter then us in a way, and actually have processed thoughts and feelings while communicating with each other..

Dolphins are on a secret mission to return to land and take over the human race. Mark my word.
Ok, don't. But seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if we find that we're underestimating the intelligence of dolphins. Has there ever been any other speculations like this regarding other animals? That ability seems pretty darn advanced ... a tad creepy in a way -- MM

Dolphins are probably far more intelligent than we can imagine and must be veru bemused by us thinking we are so superior to them, these are the coolest mammals around. I wouldn`t find it hard to believe they could help us with medical problems at all, lets just hope we dont go and start capturing and doing tests on them!

Sorry if this is late, but I think it's the sound and electromagnetic waves or fields that do the switching. The dolphins may have an instinct to use a pattern of soundtype waves when it detects a problem in the sonar/electromagnectic wave/field around a person, correcting an imbalance. Great article.

Dolphins are very highly intelligent mammals. They can communicate with all life forms, including extraterrestials. They protect man in many ways while at sea, will even steer a shark form attacking a human if they are in the area. This is befitting for them to be able to do this, for I see them as the real Kings of the world. Just hope they don't start any genetic engineering on them, and eave them alone and let them do their thing.

Apparently, dolphins are the only other mammal that has sex for fun.

I don't know about the healing part... But I do know that sound can be the most deadly weapon. Can stop all life, down to the molecule, when at the right .... UM... Note? I guess??? But I did read that... some where...

Very strange theory a bit out of the water you might say. But why not I mean I have always seen them as the K9 of the ocean. A lick from a dog some say can help heal a wound. A lick from your cat and you better get the medicine on it.
