Sad but true
Here's a question, I can't find it online. Alien was originally going to be called something else, anyone remember what it was? The name was rather cheesy I think.

The name of Weylan-Yutani was introduced by director Ridley Scott, which was named after his old neighbors which he hated with a passion, so it resulted in him deciding to name the evil "company" after them.

The phrase "In Space, no one can hear you scream" is frequently heard in reference to the first movie as a tagline. In fact, I believe it was the alien movies that first coined the phrase....could that have perhaps started life as the title to which you refer?
Hmm..."Star Beast"? Yes, I'm afraid that is cheesier than a weekend visit to a swiss dairy farm.

Why?

Do you think the name will kill off the credibility? Dude, I don't think it's credibility would survive Star Beast 1.

Hey! whats wrong with resurection, i found it an enjoyable romp.

BTW Talon, i wouldn't be too worried, Anderson is already working on two upcoming movies due out around 2006
'Man with the football'Terrorists steal the U.S. president's "football" -- the briefcase equipment used to initiate a nuclear strike -- causing a team of agents to quickly diffuse a potential attack.
'Deathrace 3000'A no-holds-barred, ultraviolent car race, set in 2020.
They sound.....nice

I think 'Death Race' will suit Anderson.
Oh, is he not going to be racing?
Seraphina
Jul 12 2005, 01:59 PM
In fairness, it does sound like the kind of movie that would suit him...umcompromising violence, probably with little in the way of plot of character development.
How he plans to direct the other one, which sounds to me like a nail biting thriller, I have no idea

He's been seen to have no talent in directing such scenes, let alone an entire movie

I actually considered by Resident Evil 2 today. In the shop looked at the back cover, it read "from the visionary director Paul Anderson (Alien vs Predator)" ...... visionary?

.... then I came to my senses and put it back on the shelf.

Edit - that's not to say I didn't like the movie. I loved it. But Newt was a one movie kind of gal i think.

To be honest, i think resident evil 2 is the best of anderson's work by far, and if it was £10 or less you should've bought it. Unfortunately it is less than visionary, unless your idea of visionary is stealing all the ideas already in place in a franchise, mixing them all up so they make no sense and filling in the gaps with crappy dialogue and special effects.

People didn't like AvP because they didn't understand it.

I didn't like AvP because the movie sucked. The close escapes of the humans from the traps in the pyramid were more exciting than the battles between Predator/human/alien. And since the escapes weren't very exciting really, that just says it all right there.
The director decided to go for the less is more kind of routine. I wanted to see an alien rip a human to shreds. What we got was an alien snarl, then a human scream, then a short two-second frame of a wall with blood being splattered on it. Where's the graphic violence of the previous films?

You know, I walked into Talon's room the other day, and found him watching Alien 3...the exact moment in the film was when the alien was chasing people through those tunnels, and, as I sat down, some guy got grabbed just as he ran through a doorway, with blood and dismembered limbs following close behind

Alien 3, however, was an exception....it was the only alien that actually killed people. The aliens didn't do that...it wasn't productive for them. In every other movie, they dragged people away to cacoon them...the number of people actually killed are greatly outnumbered by those dragged away to be hosts. Even the creature in Alien, despite not having a queen to lay eggs for it, did so.
The Alien in the third movie didn't seem to bother...probably because it came from a dog (or cow, depending on what version you're watching), and was less capable of a thoughtfull approach

I know what you mean Sera -
But (and I guess I haven't seen the movies for a while), wasn't one of the guys killed straight out in the first Alien movie? Set of teeth ripping the face apart, unless my memory is faulty.
I'm gonna have to go and check it out now. But hey, you can have graphic violence without anyone actually dying
Seraphina
Jul 12 2005, 02:43 PM
Oh yes, the alien/s did kill people straight out in all the movies....they just didn't do it as a matter of course. I imagine the alien in the first movie started killing either when it's plan changed from incubation to escape, or when it decided it had sufficient hosts (the two people it had already cacooned).
