What is a soul? i mean we can not see it.. do they even exsist... is it more of a religious belief, im not quite sure about it, im just asking... like is a soul scientifically proven? what is it? Please reply help me out thanx guys!

I think the soul is very much a religious belief....many cultures tend to have the trend of believing that the physical body is just a shell, and the "spirit" or whatnot passed on after death. It's part and parcel with the whole afterlife thing

Certainly a soul has never been scientifically proven, no...if it had been, it would certainly lend a great deal of credibility to the religious arguement. That is, at least, there's never been proof of a "soul" in a tangable, spiritual sense...

Lots of people also feel that a soul simply refers to a person's emotions and personality...the kind of feelings humans experience seem very limited indeed in the animal kindgom, and are common to only the most advanced of social animals.

From a scientific standpoint, no it isn't something that has been proven.

Does it exist? I do not know. Most religions believe that there is a lifeforce seperate from our physical bodies that continues to exist after our physical bodies die...It is a common thread...

I would like to think that there is something more that this, but as of yet have not seen a religion that makes much sense at all to me personally, so in my opinion if we do continue to exist past our physical bodies it is unlikely to be the typical idea of what a soul/heaven would be like.

It is a very personal matter that takes a lot of searching to get the answer for yourself; all I can say is to look at the information you receive with an open mind, but a critical eye. You will be able to figure out the answer that is right for you.

To me our souls are our energy, our essence.

Our energy comes from food and drink, and is then used up and thus needs new energy.

I dont know what is a soul. But i know that, when somebody dies, his/her mind lives on, the consious body. the YOU. Our bodies are just like a box where the mind can live in for a while.
I am sure about this, cause i am into Astral Travelling and its very real . I have been myself without my physical body many times. Just myself, my thoughts and personality.
Maybe this is what many people refer to as SOUL.

but it's good that people are open minded about this subject because it might just be the next most controversial thing besides if there is a higher being out there

Yes we have a soul. When a person dies and the soul leaves the body it loses a few lb's in weight instantly. Not only that, but there is OBE's and astral travel, all of which would not be possibble if there were no soul. Then there is the religious side of things, which you all know.

I watched a friend die, when the machines were turned off, I saw what I believe was her soul or essence. It was like an energy ball floating a couple of inches above her face. I believe it was her soul coming to be with her family and friends as she passed.

I've heard an explenation to that that didnt include a soul, and I'll find it in a bit, but first tell me... How can a soul weigh something? that would mean that its made out of matter, wouldnt it?

I, in my own opion believe we do have a soul. Maybe it`s the religion in me
that won`t let me denie it. But out of all the years of comtemplation on the subject,
I happen to come up with my own Theory called " The Energy Within".

If I`m not mistaking, wasn`t it Albert Einstein who said Are bodies have way to much energy, to just die.

My theory of " The Energy Within" mostly explains about a soul incaged in the
human body. And the only connection it has to the flesh, is by nerves. If your
nerve dies, that`s it, no coming back. If your in the Hospital living off the machine
because your a Vegtable, and people start speaking of pulling the plug. That`s
because you can not come back once you are detached. In my Theory I go
further in to detail, and provide more info on the subject.

Now if you look at it threw a religist point of view, one can say it`s quit easy.

Based on the Dead Sea Scrolls, God in Genesis 6:3 speaks of his spirit in man,
The Holy Spirit. And Jesus in Matthew 4:19/4:4 Speaks of feeding and catching
the Souls of Men.
So if God don`t lie, because that`s the devils way. And if you don`t believe we
have a Soul or Spirit, then your calling not only God, but Jesus a Lier.

Wouldn't we have to be speaking of religion (though not necessarily Judeo-Christian) when speaking of souls? I am unaware of any secular concepts of the soul.

An Awesome Experience

I prayed for over 2 hours straight for the children in poor countries, the dying, and the suffering. I prayed for all of the people I have met, or could remember. Then I laid down with my hands at my side on my bed, with my eyes closed, feeling very good inside. (Prayer for others not only helps those you are praying for, but it also helps the Prayer giver.) I laid there in silence, and in the darkness of my inner vision shined two small bright white lights. I was not scared because of the Prayer. The first thing I thought was wow! This is cool! Those two white lights came closer and closer, then entered my eyes. At that moment I thought the experience was over, until I opened my eyes. Because when I did, it was the greatest and most wonderful thing I could have ever imagined. I was floating about ten feet above the roof of my house! It took a few seconds to realize where I was, and what was happening. My vision was different, almost blurry, yet very clear, it was as though every color was mixed in together, within my eyes. I could hear a trickling waterfall on my right side. I looked down to see my roof, then I looked to my right at the tops of the trees in my backyard. Amongst all other things that are possible in the Astral realm, the only thing I really wanted to do, was tell my Mother and Father, who were upstairs in the living room. The next thing I did was look up at the sky, I could see dark grey clouds, and it was night. Immediately the clouds parted East and West, to reveal a bright blue sky. It was very beautiful, but for some reason, I cared alot more about telling my parents. So I decided to try to wake myself up, I tried to speak but nothing came out. I got a little bit anxious, and tried a few more times. On the third or fourth try I awoke lying on my side making an uhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound. Right away I ran upstairs to tell my family. The entire experience lasted about one minute.

Okay, is the soul scientifically proven? No, but does it have the chance to be? I would say yes.

If you look up information on the pineal gland, a small cone shaped gland located in the dead center of our brain, you might find a little extra info. Neurologists have defined it as a gland that helps to regulate our circadian rythyms (biological clock) but it appears to have other applications.

For instance, its been known to be larger at birth and then shrink to about the size of a pea in adolescence, perhaps evidence that its meant for some other purpose and when not properly used it shrinks and turns dormant.

The pineal gland has also been known to respond to varying frequencies; even ones which humans cannot percieve.

In my opinion, i think the pineal gland is the closest thing to finding where our body and soul meet, but thats just me.

To me a soul is the realisation of self-consiousness. Des Cartes idea on "I think there for I am" is what i base my observation on, I guess some people can be souless like a machine is but if a machine is consious of it self it will acquire what i call a soul.

Interesting info on brain, but I think soul is something that can't be explained by "putting data on the paper". On my opinion, soul is the spiritual existence of ourselves.

It should be obvious that if we don't have a soul, there's at least a God. The reason for that is, first where did the universe come from? And second, if none of this is kept for eternity, then this wouldn't be happening right now, due to the fact that if in the future, all sentience is wiped out, then why should this be happening right now? It wouldn't be happening at all if it isn't there.

Well, she was giving us a recount of experiences that she has had. If she feels her consciousness has been seperated from her physical body, what more proof does she need? That may not answer our questions, but it's solved for her.

What is it ? Probobly a spiritual part of ourselfes that our consciousness switches too when the brain dies .

Proof of its existance ? Not much . Ghost stories are really the best evidence - but it still isnt proven . Lots of eyewitness accounts , even some video footage and tons of pictures . Problem is : people can be crazy , videos can be staged , and photoshop / photo editing programs have gotten so good we practically can't consider photos for evidence of anything anymore .

I dont believe we go to heaven or a hell . Life in heaven would be blissfull ...yet utterly pointless . Life in hell would be cruel - lets all hope god isnt some sadistic freak . Reincarnation is possible . Its also possible we just die and enjoy everlasting sleep .


But to be honest , I'll go with what little proof we have and assume we just turn into ghosts and then wander around . Im going to go to pluto when I die . Anyone who cares is welcome to join me .

As for the topic at hand-yes I believe that we all have souls.I base this not only on my Christian beliefs but on personal life experience.For the last 6 years I have worked as a firefighter and EMT and spent 7 years previous to that in law enforcement,I have seen many people die up close and personal.I have looked in people's eyes as they passed from this world and saw and felt something(I believe their soul/spirit/essence whatever it may be called) leave their bodies.Scientific proof no,the truth as I believe it.

Anyhoo...as far as evidence of souls, there really isn't anything concrete. One thing somewhat scientific that I feel indicates that humans have a sort of 'greater purpose' is that all civilizations and groups of people have a form of after life or Higher Being. That seems to point to something more out there. It's as if there is a void of some sort or deeper quest.
