With cell phones taking over the world, how long until we see the extinction of the old-fashioned pay phone? Maybe 5-10 years?
BurnSide
I hightly doubt ever. They're still a very popular method of communication and extremely useful if you don't have a cellphone.

There will be pay phones for many years to come, cell phones will eventually replaced by another form of portable communication and some people will never purchase portable communication devices like a cell phone!

Plus after watching the day after tommorow you'll see we need them to survive.... laugh.gif

LOL! It does seem that true and tried technology can be far more reliable than all these new modern devices even though they are so cool!

Plus we do need places to make prank calls from that cant be traced back to us wink2.gif
AztecInca
Ah yes, who could forget that good point, without them thousands upon thousands of prank callers would be caught and punished for their actions!

mellow.gif Its against the law to drive and use a mobile at the same time.

Here in the UK pay phones are on a different network to landlines. So if there was a terrorist attack say on the BT tower in London for example, all our landlines would go down but our pay phones would still work. So in that example pay phones are still very useful. Also if your cell runs out of juice and you need to make a call...basically what bs said. grin2.gif

Here in Canada,it will also be illegal to drive and use a cell phone at the same time. This will happen soon.In order to use a cell phone in a car,the car must be parked in a parking lot or on the side of the road. With the car turned off.
