Well, seeing how we hold fancy award "shows" each year, and vote for select winners in a few categories, I thought to myself, why don't we hold a forum wide UM contest! It could be anything really. Maybe a trivia contest? And to the winner, he/she will be able to receive the best, greatest, most satisfying prize of all... The be a "Moderator For A Day." Everyone knows they want it. Therefore this would make the most incredible contest/prize combination ever!...

Would this be at all possible?

I highly doubt it.....most that became a Mod for a day would abuse it.....and that wouldn't end well....

I'd be content just being voted, "UM's Most Coffee Driven Member". LOL

I have no objections to a contest, but i can't approve a prize that allows someone to be a 'Moderator for a day'. As Janiel said, most people would abuse it.

Moderator status can not be given out as a competition prize.

Thats too bad. Even with guidelines and rules to follow someone wouldn't be a moderator? I'm sure whoever wins would fit the job best, especially if we create a contest about the site, guidelines, rules, and "what if" situations. I don't believe the winner would be respectful as a mod if we explain the sever penalties that would come with abusing the prize. Oh well, a contest with a different prize would be cool.

Here's a few contest suggestions:

Avatars, Sigs, Sig Quotes, Personal UM Home Page or just a basic creative home page, Poems/Songs/Stories/Etc., Photoshop Art/Collages, Free-hand drawings/Paintings.

I think creativness should be the focus of any contest.

I know it's been done before, but how about an online game tournament? More organized than before of course. We'd most likely play on Yahoo.com. Whoever wants to enter the tournament does so, and creates a Yahoo username starting with "UM." We then decide on a game and one room where all UM members would always meet. After that, you just stay in that particular Yahoo room whenever you're on, waiting for someone whose username starts with "UM" to come in. You two play and report the match and winner to whoever the scorekeeper is.

I like the idea of a general trivia contest. I suppose it could be done thru funtrivia
on yahoo.......Are there any yahoo quiz creaters out there?

How about we do a Unexplained-mysteries trivia tournament, where two people are to versus each other, the have the same questions, the same amount of time and whoever gets the most right wins and goes onto the next round where the difficulty increases! Something along those lines maybe.

You could have heaps of people compete in this, it is a tournament after all, but it may be a little hard to organise, but i`d be willing to help where ever I could. This could be done in the future though and not necessarily as this contest, i think its a good idea, it could become an annual UM contest one day.......you never know!

A short story or creative writing on a UM topic would allow more to compete though.

Yeah that would be cool, having an anual UM contest week or something so everyone who wants to compete can and as u said before we could have the contest forum like the debate one were different contest are always going on with a special annual one happening every year for UM awards!

I really think that a trivia game thru yahoo fun trivia would be easy. have a moderator or a quiz creator set up the quiz or quizes and yahoo will keep score for us. moderator would only monitor results....
only question would be: who would be the quiz master?

All contests will have judges, who, will only be used to narrow down the finalists.
The people of UM would vote for the winner.
A format would need to be followed for each competition.
The same amount of time, specification, and limits would equalize competition.

Contest categories will appeal to a wide range of members.

Comedy Contest - Competitors could write their own jokes.

Avatar Contest - Make you own.

Signature Contest - Design a signature (with specifications).

Poetry Contest - Writer will write the a poem in a designated category.

Trivia Contest - ...

Best Photoshopped Picture Contest - Contestants will choose a picture (approved by "judge") or will have a pre- chosen selection which they will modify.

Art Contest - Draw, paint, sketch...

Quote Contest - Contestants will write their own funny, dark, inspirational quote.

Animation Contest - Animate.

Comic Strip Contest - Create a hilarious comic strip.

Essay Contest - Write you own essay about UM, what it means to you. (or choose from other -to be determined- categories)

Short Story Of You Life Contest - Write a parable about you life.

Theory Contest - Think up the most creative, logical, relevant theory (on selected topics)

Photo Contest - Snap you own artistic pictures to be submitted (-non -photoshopped-)

Music, Television, Movie Contest - Think up your own ideas and concepts.

Editorial Cartoon Contest - Draw your own.

UM Political Contest - Contestants will team up, think of politic party name and platform (The winners will be the unofficial president/vicepresident of UM)

Nickname Contest - Using selected names, contestants will think of the most creative/funny nicknames.

UFO Contest - Contestants will create their own picture of a UFO, which will be accompanied by a written story and eye witness account of the UFO.

Crypto Contest - Create your own crypto and story to go alone with it.

Parable/Fairy Tale Contest - Create your own stories.

Animated Smilie Contest - Make you own.

Ancient Mystery - Create a trip to a known or made up ancient site accompanied by a picture.

Horror Story Contest - Create your own horror story.

Character Contest - Make up and draw you own cartoon, superhero or person, or create a funny drawing of a picture.

*Note: A skill testing question will not accompany any of the contests*

Yea, they're relatively easy to set up, and the only reason we would need judges is if there are lots contestants and the choices need to be narrowed down.

There is nothing wrong with the banner. Pictures in your signature is a form of...expression.

Something easy will make a lot of people compete and something attractive will lure a lot of people. And a good prize will make people think that it is worth it.

To me, I don't mind how the contest is, as long as the prize is worth it. I mean, no need for skills to go on forums.

But I do have an idea. Have the cometition be similar to Unexplained Mysteries of Phenomenons. That will make the forums more involved in Mysteries.
