Hey everyone:

Being from Iowa, I am a little disappointed in myself, for not having known this before. I am wondering if anyone else from this site might have heard of this sighting before?

It is my understanding from talk in my hometown, newspapers and radio, that apparently Durant, IA. was visited by a UFO. The UFO was said to have hovered over an elderly couple's home for approximately 15 minutes. The couple contacted the Sheriff who arrived and witnessed the UFO. The Sheriff contacted another law enforcement official who then witnessed the same. Then the State Troopers were contacted. The Troopers then saw the UFO as it was flying over fields after having hovered.

Please be aware that this story is two or three years old. I just heard of it and thought maybe that someone from here might have more information.

I am not aware of the couple having made any contact, or of anyone for that matter making contact. Apparently the object just simply hovered over the home. The couple was impressed by the lights and how much they were able to see from the ground. It has been said that the object/UFO hovered low enough that those witnessing the event were able to describe with clarity what they saw and the details of the UFO.

If anyone has anyother info to share, please do. I would be interested in learning.

Thanks for reading

This will probably be moved to the UFO board, but to answer your question, I don't believe I've heard of that incident

Thanks for writing. I will try Google. Where should I look there?

Durant, IA. is a very small community. It probably has less than 500 population. I realize, by commenting next I will show my naive knowledge of UFO's, but, I did believe for some reason that in most sightings of UFO's that they were more commonly connected to larger populations. Is the latter true?

Thanks

Location: Rural/Durant, IA
Shape: Fireball
Duration:15 seconds
A fireball of green blue/turquoise and orange color. With long glowing tail traveling behind seem to be descending out of the sky headed in a west to east direction. Object moved at tremendous speed and dissapeared into the east horizon.

We were backing out of our lane to our aunt's funeral visitation. Our eleven year old daughter looked out the back window of the car and said " Look! Look! Look at that!". My wife and I turned and witnessed a single large fireball traveling in an easterly direction out the side window of our car. It was round and what appeared to be a tail of burning gas traveling behind. It was blue, green, and orange in color. We watched it as it dissapeared on the eastern horizon in approximately 15 seconds. It appeared to be a huge object traveling in the sky at the height of a low airplane. I am a construction foreman, my wife homeschools our daughter and we live 2 and a half miles north of town in a rental farmhouse.

I dont think its the one you're referring to peacelover, but interesting that its reported in the same place. About all i can find on the report you're looking for is that it was in 1949.
