It really will all come down to this I think, but even after a nuclear holocaust I believe someone, or something rather, will survive and repopulate the world. But then Christianity won't work anymore because humans will not exist, human hybrids will. We will have traded vanity for a chance to return to an Eden of sorts. Essentially, we will be free once the hybrids get out of that inevitable Neanderthal stage. Something to look forward to if you survive the end of the world I guess. Just remember to reinvent Prozac to drown out the fact that North America, Russia, and China are giant craters where cockroaches run free.

I'm really not interested in knowing that death is eninaivetable. Just not in the forseeable future. I supose one would say space travel is a must if humans are to survive.

Was it in 1999 that a GRB caused almost mass hysteria to scientific community, coz if it was just 2000 lightyears away (in universal scale it's literally nothing) it would appear twice as bright as the sun for the short time that the Burst would last. The Earth will end when the Sun has aged enough that it's gravitational pull sucks our planet into it and probably not a moment before that. Whether our race is here or not by then is a question we can't possibly know..

It probably is. Often our own fears take precendence in our own minds over what would logically happen. And Nuclear War is definitely something to fear.
But..
After the first vollies of missiles flew the ability to launch more would be gone. Society might be thrown into chaos but there would be plenty of survivors no matter how miserable we were..
I'd hardly think it would result in the whole Earth being gone and all of humanity and nature being wiped out..

To be quite honest, the further into the future we delve the less and less likely it seems that there will be a nuclear war at all.
In my opinion, the Cold War never ended, the media just got tired of it. Everyone is still stockpiling weapons, and constantly competing to be the first to get their hands on new weapons and better defenses, but no one will use then for fear of retaliation. America wont launch the first strike and if anyone else did they'd be vaporized before the strike was even out of the silos.

I too am wondering why people are so sure about the year 2012. Is it merely because the jewish calendar ends on this date? That's hardly cause for alarm. Remember the Y2K scare anyone? or have we all forgotten. Everyone KNEW that computers were going to go haywire. People got rich writing books on how to survive it. Canada was the most prepared for Y2K, and India was the least prepared. Now, lets compare what happened in each country.

I completely agree with you about Y2K. Everyone was so crazy because so guy said some car batteries might stop or whatever. People wanted it to happen so bad they all started satying it would happen at the END of 2000 and again, nothing.

well the y2k phenomena is something small that got blown out of proportion, as the double 0's at the end of the year would screw up computers (making them rewind to the time they where built, since the only use the last two digit of the year)...so technically there was nothing to fear, but as usual "theorist" came up with the whole "end" scenario.

It's like the first Atomic bombs, some "theorist" said a single bombe would make the whole world explode (... since the whole world is made out of atoms *sigh*).

So don't listen to "theorist" because they are the terrorist of theories.

I think that humans will use every resource on earth and we will revert back to our primative ways.

Oh ye of little knowledge of history and geology. The most we humans will ever do is change the face of the earth in minor ways. If what natural events have done in the past haven't destroyed the earth, humankind is not about to destroy it. It has been considerably colder and warmer in the past than it is now, and climates have always been in a state of flux all over earth. More than 95% of all species known to have inhabited the earth at one time or another have become extinct, and the earth turns quite nicely without their presence. If humans made a concerted effort to actually destroy the earth, it would be akin to a flea climbing an elephant's leg with rape on its mind. Perhaps when in the far distant future the sun turns into a red giant or the like, the end will come. I won't hold my breath.

We have a enough nukes to destroy the earth? I don't know about that. The earth is fairly large, maybe they'll destroy civilization. My guess is the sun will explode.

well according the the numbers "leaked" by ex-KGB members in 1991, yes, if they where all lunched at the same time or sent to the same spot (the theorie is that it would temper with earth's crust...and so on). Of course a few nukes will be needed to hit pressice point to make serious unavoidable damage ( San andreas fault for example).
But the most possible way for nukes to destroy humanity would be fallout...but earth is tuff...it will probably end up like mercury.

I believe that human hiself who will end the life on earth before that time.

Its a pity i could only pick one, there are many things that could happen, aliens invading is a far out way of the existance of the human race coming to a end, but you never know.
