Okay, I know it's very simple question, but hey, I'm novice too original.gif

I'm experimenting with creating a macromedia flash intro, and I need some help from the programming gurus around here grin2.gif

How can I make appear a sign, a text or image, indicating the progress of loading the flash intro? Coz if I make an intro of 200-250 kb, on slower connections it could take some good 30-40 secs before it's loaded, so I would like the ppl seeing it to see the progress of loading.

If that's too complicated, then how can I make appear a simple "Loading" text (without any progress bar) that would load before the flash object and disappear after the flash is ready and running?

Thanx everyone.. thumbsup.gif

Ok i'm gonna type this out from a book, called "Banani's 'Using Flash MX';

To try out a preloader take a existing movie and add a new scene at its beginning. This scene will be used to take the preloader. Add a short animated message in the new scene, saying something along the lines of "Loading please wait". Do not use anything elaborate here, that would substantially increase the size of the movie and the download time. In fact a simple one frame message will suffice. Select the first frame of the preloader and launch the actions window if it is not already on the screen. The following action script items are then selected from the left hand section of the window in this order:

From Actions/Conditions Lopps select the if option
From Properties select the Framesloaded option
From Operaters/Comparision Operaters select the >= option
From Properties select the Totalframes option
From Actions/Movies Control select Goto option

You should then have something similar to Figure 6.109 (No picture, if you want it i'll scan it), with the right hand section having changed to give various options for the Goto instruction. The Action Script causes the sequence to wait until the total number of frames loaded is equal to or greater than the total number of frames in the movie. In other words, it waits until the entire movie has been loaded. The Goto instruction must then direct the playing head to frame one of the main movie and start it playing. The default settings almost give the required action, but the movie will start playing from frame one of the preloader. It is preferable for it to jump straight to the beginning of the main scene, particulary if a short animation is being used in the preloader. In order to make this change simply select the appropriate scene from the Scene pop down menu Fig 6.110 (Again picture missing).
It is difficult to test this type of thing without actually uploading it (to the net) and then playing it via the browser. If you simply test the movie in flash it will load so quickly that the initial messgae won't appear. One method of testing that usually works is to export it to a floppy disk and load via a internet browser from the floppy.

I hope that helps dude, i really recommend this book, its really informative and can turn even the most novice into a expert at flash within a couple of weeks. And best of all its cheap... heres the ISBN 0-85934-527-0 even if your a expert it can be a good reference book too.
